  1. Here's the answer. "Tomorrow is Yesterday"-original series. It's 'sort of' a sequel to 'The Naked Time'. In 'Naked', they learned they could travel back in time, while escaping a planet's gravitational pull, by some anti matter thingamajig, showing them the clock moving backward. Spock states that it opens some interesting possibilites, and that they can go back anytime, anywhere. Kirk say they may risk it 'some day'. Apparently 'Tomorrow is Yesterday' is 'some day', as Kirk notes in his log that they went back on purpose.
  2. one last quote, then I'm giving the answer- "thanks for the look ahead, Captain"
  3. I suppose I'll have to come up with more quotes. I am surprised that this is difficult. I'd have thought in a group that's familiar with Cardassian politics, Ferengi social customs, and Klingon linealogy, that this simple little Trek would have been easy. The best clue I gave is that it's a follow up, of sorts, to the Naked Time.
  4. one more quote - "I'd like to stick around and see how it works out with your girlfriend, Captain, but.." "I'm afraid you'll have to"
  5. No-but you're on the right track. It was a 'sequal' of sorts, to the previous show.
  6. "the truth is, I'm a little green man from Alpha Centauri-a beautiful place. You ought to see it" "I am going to lock you up for 200 years" "that ought to be just about right"
  7. "The Naked Time" they were doing great episodes right out of the chute. I'll start a new one when I get a chance to come up with one.
  8. I'm not into this WBC thing. It's still early in spring training, and all these players are competing like it's mid season ? I'm sure there are owners, managers, and fans dreading the thought of one of their key guys coming up lame. It also starts the regular season later. I almost paid big money for an early April game against the Brewers, and realized just in time it was an exhibition game. It's mystery why the Brewers are in Dodgers Stadium that late for a meaningless game, but at least I didn't bite. Suddenly both the Dodgers and Angels are exciting- unless the economy ruins me, I'll be at the ballparks often this year.
  9. Well, I'm happy. I know I'll be getting a fair return on all the money I shell out for Dodger tickets now. I never think of going to ballgames in monetary terms, but for some reason it hit me that way. The Dodgers are looking good now-certainly in the NL Worst. I'm ready for the season, and welcome back Manny.
  10. At the time, I thought that there must be something really valuable in the class, if everyone involved with the way was so excited about it. Very naive. When I first sat through it, I found it tedious and disappointing for the most part-though there were enough mpments and sections that interested me enough to at least keep me alert. I thought speaking in tongues was a fantasy-and I still thought that through all my years as a twig, leader, advanced class grad-I had no business being that involved since I mentally rejected their most basic beliefs. And I sure never realized I'd be sitting through that class well over 40 times ! Now we're talking boredom !
  11. yeah, Boras is the real face of evil. I do have problems with the 'deferred payments' though. The thinking out here is that McCourt doesn't have the money, which seems ridiculous , based ob his 2 Malibu homes, and the cash cow that the Dodgers are. It's still a good deal. Boras could care less about the economy, morality, or even the reality that the Dodgers and Manny are the best fit the player is going to find. Boras doesn't care about what will make the player happy and successful-just how much money he can grab, any way he can.
  12. The Dodgers released the info about Manny turning down the money, in a calculated manner to make him look as bad as possible. Which isn't hard to do. It then comes out that most of that money is in deferred payments over several years, meaning no interest can be paid on money he has earned. In other words, typical Frank McCourt cheapness. I'm sick of both sides. At the same time, thousands showed up at a Dodger Stadium job fair, willing to work any job. cleaning bathrooms. security guard, for 10 bucks or so an hour. Many of them desperate to just feed their families. As 'good ol' vp' once said-something must be wrong with our scale of values.
  13. I was in New Bremen one Friday, at the church that they turned into a 'cultural center'. They were putting together those 'High Country Caravans' things, and I was in the audience for the taping. Joe F*ir (from 'Pressed Down' ?) sang a song. I thought it was the one good thing on the program. Shows what I know. Over the next couple of days it got out that Wierwille went crazy on Joe, saying he was terrible, his ego ruined the show, it was a disgrace to God, yadda yadda. By the Sunday Night service, it was accepted 'truth' , that Joe F*ir was a disaster, spiritually screwed up, etc. Then I started hearing that he had gone on stage drunk. If he had, I sure couldn't tell. I know he has talked about drinking issues in his life, but in this case it sounded fishy. I saw his reputation ground into the dirt overnight. And I STILL say he was the best performer on the show.
  14. wow-I really like that song-but didn't get it from that line ! I don't have a new one handy just now.
  15. Arod couldn't have handled that inquisition worse. Maybe he's not capable of it. I have no sympathy for him, but still shake my head in wonder that there are 103 (!) other players on that list, that don't have to go through it. let's just play ball, get Manny in a Dodger uniform, and move on, already.
  16. Here's a song that still makes me feel good whenever I hear it- "and when I see the sign that points one way, the light we used to pass by every day"
  17. The Angels do have a logjam, but they needed Abreu's bat. Torii Hunter in center isn't going anywhere. They may decide to dh Guerraro occasionally, though I know he doesn't like dhing. That leaves 3 or 4 guys fighting for left field. Everyone keeps waiting for Juan Rivera to break out-I've yet to be that impressed. You can say good bye to Reggie Willets. The common them in LA was if the Dodgers don't sign Manny, there's always Abreu, or Adam Dunn. Right. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, with Manny going to the Giants. I have no confidence in Dodger management.
  18. now that I'm a Manny convert, I'll want to read that book. I heard Jim Bouton speak at the Baseball Reliquary, here in Pasadena a few years ago. He talked about his many 'comebacks', still pitching for Independent leagues well into his 40's. He said he knew it was time to hang it up because he was serving up too many home run pitches to guys named Justin, and Jason.
  19. I remember you were right about the Rays improvements-and understand it's nice to read about your team being pumped up-gotta get through the winter... here's my weird prediction-and you know how I feel about predictions- this Arod thing might (and I mean MIGHT), ultimately make a better team player out of him. Up to now, it's been all about himself, and the records. There's no way anyone will look at him the same again, and he has to learn to live with it. If he can get past worrying about being the 'greatest' ( which he never was imo), maybe he can learn to be part of a team. There are reasons why Jeter, with lesser skills, is loved, and he isn't. Maybe this is my fantasy way of getting through the winter.
  20. predictions are interesting , but ultimately meaningless-unless you can find me someone who predicted the Rays in the WS last year.
  21. As I work my way through 'the Yankee Years', I'm realizing that it's 85 % Tom Verducci. It should have been 'by Verducci with occasional thoughts from Torre'. It's a fine book, but Torre is not the author. Most of the controversial stuff is Verducci's writing, though it seems Joe is ok with taking the heat, since his name is on it. So far I've got a greater understanding on why the 90's Yankees were special ( and remain my all time favorite team), and how it dismantled. I also appreciate the mechanics of the Red Sox rise more (though it's not much different than Mstar's analysis over the years).
  22. Leave us not forget the 'college division'-a decidedly lesser program for those who wish to excel in their professions. To my knowledge, the way never helped or cared about ANYONE's profession ( well, they cared about the money they could glom-or using a person's status, if they had any). But training people? forget it.
  23. Oh yeah-I'd have to live near Kansas City- don't see it happening The Royals in their good years were exciting, and fun. I wish that on most teams. The Dodgers are like that with Manny-without him, they're missing the key ingredient, and depending on the charms of Dodger Stadium-which admittedly are great The Arod bomb has exploded-Frankly I wouldn't mind if the fall out resulted in him leaving the Yankees.
