Did I miss something ? Who's saying this place sounds like the Nation's home page ? I never thought of it before, but I suppose most of the posters here (all 3 or 4 of them ), tend to lean left politically. Not that anything political gets discussed , that I can recall. So how come the righties aren't into baseball ? What's more American than baseball?

Bob Ryan doesn't have a clue as to what we poor, delusional, hicks in LA were thinking concerning Manny. Everyone knew the honeymoon wouldn't last forever-we just didn't see this coming. It's hard to call the media 'fawning', when the 2 biggest sportswriters in town are Bill Plashke, and TJ Simers. Plashke has been on an anti-Manny crusade since he got here, and is tripping over himself with glee, now that he's being 'proved right'. Now I have Plashke and Ryan telling me they 'told me so' Not that I'm a genius (that's for sure), but I smelled trouble brewing as soon as the Dodgers rolled out this 'Mannywood' campaign. It reminded me of the Eric Gagne 'game over' mania of a few years ago, and we know how that turned out. I'll be at the Ravine tomorrow. When I got the tickets, Manny was stroking, the Dodgers were unbeaten at home, and things couldn't be better, and there you are. As always, I go to the wisdom of Yogi-'In baseball, you don't know NUTTIN'.

Manny-suspended 50 games for steroids-I suppose I shouldn't be surprised Just when things were never looking better for the Dodgers-they were just starting to promote 'MannyWorld" a ticket package where you can pay more for lousy seats in the outfield for the privilege of being near Manny Once I can get to the point of not giving a cr*p about any of these multi millionaires , I'll be better off. Think I'll walk down to the local Little League field tonight.

I hope Remy is ok. Good guy, and good announcer when I've heard him. The relationship with the local announcer can be powerful. It was disturbing to not have Phil Rizzuto when I first moved out of state.Id been listening to him for hundreds of hours every summer since childhood, and I didn't enjoy leaving Phil behind. I'm dreading the inevitable with Vin Scully. He sounds immortal, but the reality is he's in his 80's. What's amazing to me is he talks and sounds just like he did 50 years ago-only better. I listen to each game as if it's the last time I'll hear him. There's no one waiting in the wings.

If the Sox could figure out how to beat the Rays, they'd be in a cake walk. Somehow, it usually balances out in the end. The Dodgers can't go 81-0 at home this year can they ? Right now, who says they can't ? It's interesting that this streak coincides with the longest home stand I've ever seen. Timing is everything.

It doesn't look like the Dodgers will ever lose at home again. If the pitching holds up they are for real. The young guys Loney, Ethier, Kemp, are maturing at the same time, Manny is Manny, and the Lou Gehrig to Manny's Babe Ruth, is Orlando Hudson. That guy hits everything, plays great defense, and looks like he's enjoying every minute of it. The Dodgers are fun-which I've rarely been able to say . The reality check may come when they have to play the Cardinals, Cubs, Phillies, Mets, instead of beating up on the NL Worst. The Padres are basically a AAA team.

I finally googled this one out of curiosity, so my 'guess' doesn't count. I know the chorus well, but wouldn't have gotten it by the verse lines. It did make me go 'oh yeah=I should have known it', though. A lot of old pop top 40 hits are awful, but some pretty good and even great songs got through at times. This is a pretty good one. I don't know what you call top 40 today-I'm officially an old fart who says they all 'sound alike'-just like my parents said. -
I want to see the rest of that Tiant documentary. The excerpt was moving and thought provoking. I knew he moved to a few teams, but I forgot that he was on the Angels. Back then the Angels would sign aged stars past their prime as a matter of course. They're run better now.

The votes are on the official ballot, and I'll be dropping them at the PO on the way to work. My votes are Pete Gray, Casey Stengal, Roger Maris, and Luis Tiant. I had 2 more votes coming, but I thought these were enough to go with. There are still names that have to go in eventually. Dizzy Dean isn't in the Shrine yet, for Pete's sake ! Or Fred Merkle. I didn't want to overload the ballot though, and there will be other years. I picked Tiant with the hope that he'll show up and talk if he gets in. Casey Stengal lived in Glendale just down the road. If he had only lived to 120 he could have appeared this year. Thanks for the contributions. All excellent choices. It will be interesting to see who finally gets in.

Funny, I was leaning towards Steve Dalkowski myself-so much so , that if you want, you can take an extra pick if you'd like. With that much research, he would deserve to be 'your' pick-if that made any difference-which it doesn't. You have until Monday morning. I'm mailing it out on my way to work that day. Another player I'm leaning toward is JR Richard. Good Lord, the man was living in an underpass a few miles from the Astrodome, after his career ending heart attack. The accusations of him being 'lazy' seemed to stem from ugly racial stereotypes that should have been long gone by then.

Great choice ! I knew you'd be giving this serious thought, and Rube Waddell has to be there. So far, I've only settled on Pete Gray and Casey Stengal. I was surprised that Casey wasn't in yet, and that's like the Hall of Fame without Babe Ruth, so he gets a vote. I'm not decided on the rest yet. I'd like to see at least one living person get in, with the hope that they'd speak at the induction ceremony. I really enjoyed hearing Jim Bouton speak a few years ago. I still need to give it thought. The qualifications for the Shrine are unique, and I want to get it right.

You've got a few days-I need to mail it by early next week.

Mstar- I just received a ballot in the mail for the Shrine of the Eternals, so I do get to vote, after all. I can vote for up to 9 candidates, and I've decided to give you 3 votes. We've already talked about Pete Gray. He doesn't count because he's my first choice also. So you have 3 more picks, and this time they count. I want to mail this out by Sunday, so study the candidates at the Baseball Reliquary site , and vote !

We haven't heard from Tom Strange, Rocky, or many others lately. I hope I'm wrong, but I wonder if this place doesn't begin to feel like a Sox fan site at times, since there is a small 'community' of fans, and it gets lonely being the sole Dback, Ranger, Yankee, Indian, etc fan. I know no one is intending that, and I'm not suggesting any changes. Just wondering where everyone's at.

hmm Mark and 'Pa'-it can only be 'the Rifleman'

ok, ok here's a classic '1 hit wonder'-the so called 'band members' came from my home town-which was a big deal, since nobody came from my hometown "He'll never love you, the way that I love you 'cause if he did, no, no, he wouldn't make you cry" -
the humility line was Picard's brother arguing with him Picard's brother said 'I still don't like you' to Jean-Luc-after they made up

it's not like Susan is the first 'plain' woman with a great voice. Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, and Kate Smith come to mind. It makes me wonder, but I'm not sure what I'm wondering. It's interesting that a talent that big, can go unnoticed for so long-makes me wonder who else is lurking in villages around the world. We're so accustomed to 'perfect' celebrities ( working at Disney, I'm astounded by the Hannah Montana look alikes that come through). We're supposed to have the same response as the 'beautiful' audience, to ordinary looking people 'daring' to step forward.

"Family' it is. It was a needed 'breather' after the amazing Borg episodes. TNG arguably 'found themselves' at this time-at least for me.
-
yes, everything on tv is fabricated, and edited for effect. There's no such thing as a reality show. still-Susan Boyle is the real deal-I was expecting a good voice, but there really is something amazing there. You can't fabricate her-I hope they don't ruin her now

Here's one of my favorite episodes-though I know people who are bored by it "I have all the specs and diagrams at home" "I always thought you needed a little humiliation-or was it humility" "they took everything I was--I couldn't stop them" " this is going to be with you a long time-live with it below the sea with Louis, or above the clouds with the Enterprise" "I still don't like you"
