"Stiff man putting my mind in jail and the judge band the gavel and say 'no bail' gonna lick his hand and wag my tail"

I like the Texiera deal-just thought I'd throw that in

sounds like 'The Lights of Zetar"- an episode I've never understood. Scotty mooning over the girl like a lost puppy, a plot dealing with 'lights' that just lays there, and makes no sense (at least to me). In short, a typical 3rd season mess.

I was 16, in Connecticut. Got in a car with 4 other guys, and a choice. Let's head north to Woodstock, or east to Cape Cod. We headed for the Cape-not the brightest teenagers, but who was to know ?

Let's see, I was never a member, but was expected to show up for every meeting, class, special event, or spur of the moment whim of the 'leader'. I wasn't a member, but I was to be 'fully committed' to the 'ministry'. That was supposed to be our 'ministry of reconciliation', not the 'Way ministry', at least on 'paper'. right. Then I get a letter as an 'advanced class' grad telling me I owe the 'Way ministry' my life-literally. But I'm still not a 'member'. I'd have loved to get one of those letters. Reality is I was non existent to them , except as a cash source, and a warm body, and they never knew I was gone.

I suppose it's out of the question to mix the 2 teams in the kid's bedroom. Or maybe they should opt for a Bridgeport Bluefish motif, and avoid the whole thing.

Now it's coming out that Manny and Ortiz failed drug tests in '03. Any way we can just take the last 15 seasons and say they didn't count ? Erase McGuire, Sosa, Bonds, championships (Sox AND Yankees ) I didn't think so. I'm oddly not really enjoying this season that much. Can't explain. Part of me-a big part-just doesn't give a cr*p who wins. In a lot of ways, it was much more pleasureable going to Dodger Stadium while they were building. Now expectations are through the roof, announcers and fans are smug as can be, and I'd swear the beer consumption has doubled at games, which leads to all sorts of fun. Yeah, I'm a cranky old sob. I'm tired of 'sides' in politics, sports, countries, domestic spats. I only have so much time left on this planet, and I'd really like to mellow out a little. I like relaxing with baseball, not feeling like I'm in a war. I did enjoy holding Bill Veeck's wooden leg, though.

new one-I think one line will do it- "oh, the pain, the pain"

I never believed I could 'believe for anything, so I never really 'tried'-at least according to the way's formula. I had so many doubts, I just figured even if there was something to it, I wasn't getting to that 'level'. Meanwhile, I watched my wow sister throw away her glasses because she 'believed' her sight would correct itself by her 'believing action'. I did begin to wonder how she got to that place, as she crawled around the grass the next day, trying to find her discarded glasses.

it's 'Welcome back, Kotter'- of course, everything but the title was given, before I got it

I'd love to have one of those 'Fickle Finger of Fate' awards, that Ham posted above. The way award they can keep-though the 14 years spent in ,felt more like 40.

another Andy Strasberg item. When Billy Crystal made '61', he told Andy he could do a cameo for the scene when Roger hits #61. Billy asked him him if he'd like to play an umpire. Andy opted for another role. There was one fan that came out of the stands to shake Roger's hand as he headed for the dugout that day. Andy said he wanted to play that fan-so if you ever watch '61'-that's Andy Strasberg shaking 'Roger's hand. I'll work on uploading the leg. It is worth seeing.

The Shrine of the Eternals ,Induction ceremony- an amazing afternoon of everything that makes baseball special. I kind of feel inadequate to explain, but here's first impressions for now. Steve Dalkowski has lived a hard life. He wasn't up to speaking outside of saying 'thank you', so Ron Shelton, former Oriole pitcher, and maker of movies such as Bull Durham, gave the address. He was good, but for now I'll cut to the chase. Speaking for Roger Maris was his 'biggest fan' Andy Strasberg. Sure, there are many 'biggest fans' in this world, but this guy... When he was 13 he first saw Roger play in Yankee Stadium. He decided he was a Maris fan, not Mantle. A sentiment I've come to really embrace over the years. Andy got it back then. When he was 14 he went to 40 games, Roger got to recognize him, as he always sat in the right field bleachers. Among other things, Andy asked Roger for a bat one day, and Roger told him the next time he hits a home run, he'll give it to him. That was on the road, and when they got back to NY, Roger called to him in the stands and said he had his bat ! In college, Andy bragged about knowing Roger, and his friends called him on it. The went to Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Roger had just been traded to the Cardinals. Andy and his friends made therir way to the dugout area-Roger turns and says'Andy Strasberg! What the hell are you doing in Pittsburgh ?'-then met and talked with all his friends. Andy was sitting in right field of course, in row 9, seat 9, and Rog was still #9. He hit his first NL home run that day-into the stands where Andy caught it !! A relationship developed over time. Andy went on to work for the Padres. When Roger died, he flew to Fargo for the funeral, and waited for everyone to leave. Roger's son saw him and said, 'hey, you're dad's #1 fan !' Andy said you don't know how much Roger meant to me. Roger's son replied, 'you don't know how much you meant to my dad'. Andy Strasberg is now godfather to one of Roger's grandkids. There's a lot more, but I'll stop now. If I can only figure how to upload pics here, I have a nice one of me holding Bill Veeck's wooden leg !

I wouldn't mind the Yanks getting Halliday. Hmm, that sounds different from the previous posts, for some reason. Lugo came and went with the Dodgers-one hardly knew he was there.

I love those fan trades where players you don't care about, plus a 'prospect', are offered up for a major player. Yeah, the Jays will jump at that deal.

You would think in a season where every team I'm 'connected' to is having a standout year, or at least in the pennant race, that I'd have more to say. I've been quiet for reasons too complicated to 'splain right now. I AM looking forward to Sunday at the Pasadena Library , and the Shrine of the Eternals induction ceremony. I'm curious who will speak for Roger Maris, and hoping Steve Dalkowski is there to accept. The Baseball Reliquary is filled with Baseball geeks, not much different than you would find at a comic book convention. I look forward to it, and will post a report.

quite right-I didn't read the first post carefully, or I would have known better than to rant. Sorry about that.

I'm glad you found him. That's not always easy to do. My only point is you can't get to that site unless you're corps, so I was, and still am, mystified how that will help anyone who wasn't.
-
and how is that information going to help anyone who isn't (wasn't ) way corps ?

Welcome to the baseball joint, tagalong, and I have to admit it's nice to have someone who doesn't hate the Yankees here. The Yankees always slip, even in their best years.Just when I give them up for dead, they run off 10 wins-except when they don't-and that's baseball. It's been quiet in here, lately, but I'm sure that will change. The very mention of the Yankees may bring out the Red Sox fan contingent.I haven't had much to say lately, which seems odd, since I live in LA and follow the Dodgers, who have suddenly turned into the best team in baseball, even without Manny. In fact, when Manny comes back, they'll be sitting Juan Pierre down, who's only been their mvp for the last 2 months. I'd be sitting Kemp and keeping Pierre in the line up, but they're not going that way, and I wonder what will happen. The Dodgers are already a lock in the NL Worst, and I'm already sick of all their announcers (EXCEPT for Vin Scully-may he live forever). The other announcers are crowing so much about the wonderfulness of everything Dodger, I can't listen to it. But that's another topic.

it is F Troop-in my opinion an underrated sitcom, if ever there was one.

not Dobie Gillis a couple of more clues "I'm Warning you, Dobbs" "I don't know why everyone says you're so dumb" (hours later) "Who says I'm dumb ?!" "Jane, not in front of the men"

yeah, I do- talk about useless knowledge. I do have weak excuse that it's part of how I got where I am-wherever that is. and for the record-Mickey's other intros were for Tuesday-Circus Day, wednesday-Anything can happen day, thursday-circus day, and friday-talent roundup new one-I bet someone will get it with 1 clue "I'm warning you, Dobbs"

the original Mickey Mouse Club- first 3 quotes are Mickey's Monday introduction -he had a different one for each day of the week the last quote is Jiminy Cricket- his 'I'm no fool' segments were my favorite part of the show-after 'the Hardy Boys', and 'Spin and Marty' gawd, I'm old
