Law, gospel, salvation, judgment, assurance
TheEvan replied to Cynic's topic in Doctrinal: Exploring the Bible
I know you're not talking about Garth (or any other of our resident "aliens" in particular) with this, but I wanted to add that I don't believe Garth (or Geo, or Sudo, etc) walked away wothout a second thought. Amen about the judging. The only assurance I have is of my own salvation. Others? I just don't know. Me? I hope I live in such a way that it distinguishes me as uniquely Christian, but again, I dunno. -
Law, gospel, salvation, judgment, assurance

Doubtless there are some who think as you characterize but it's based on a classic Way misunderstanding. Wayology tends to equate belief with immediate and permanent regeneration. Arguments already made above(and doubtless which will follow) are based on one lone verse and are flippantly expressed. The more mainsteam Protestant view says that regeneration will reflect itself in a transformed life, with the caveats Cynic referenced above. Your current state may (or may not) indeed reflect the fact you were never regenerated, but doesn't deny what you believed at one time. My bone of contention is with those who conclude on outward evidence that a person is saved or not, whether that outward evidence be speaking in tongues (on the flimsy evidence of one lone verse whose application is debatable) or a profligate life. I think if I hear "I know they're not saved because...." one more time, I'll scream. Gathering assurance of salvation because one has 'done the formula' of Rom 10:9 or because one has heard themselves utter tongues is awfully flakey. It is an outer & artificial assurance, thinks me, based on one's belief about two lone verses. When I realized how flimsy my own (then mostly Way)belief system was some years back, I had a huge "faith crisis" that had me questioning my salvation. Frankly, I saw too little evidence of my professed faith in my thoughts and actions. That crisis drove me to my knees in seeking an answer, not theological, but in my heart. I did eventually get an inner assurance of salvation and now thank God for the crisis, for by it I sought the Lord and received assurance from Him, not my creed or belief. -
That's an outrageous statement, P-Mosh. Yes, I know we fueled them during the Iran-Iraq war. That doesn't make us an accomplice in genocide any more than we were Stalin's accomplice in his astounding genocide.

Anybody who does that should be out of public ministry, and pronto. Let's include R. Howard Browne (the 'holy' laughter guy) for 'prophesying' that Hank Hanegriff would be dead by such & such a time. I think Hank actually went to a Browne mtg. and sat on the front row the day of or the day after the predicted date.

"The very concept of faith demands that you believe first (and that is many times based on an appeal to obedience), then (maybe, ... if ever) you see." Right. Then why are you demanding proof? Appeal to obedience? Example, please. Is it compelled? Example please.

You're filling in a lot blanks that aren't there and then, as usual, painting with your extra-wide EEEE size brush. 1. I don't expect my beliefs to be acceptd by anybody on any otehr basis than faith. 2. Most mainstream Christian beliefs maintain that faith cannot be conjured up, wished, demanded, etc. Quit painting them with your own misconceptions and angst/ambivalence.

CK really should try his hand at this one: Grammar test

Try this one. Much to my chagrin I missed two. Spelling test

Love it. More, more! The first one sounds too sun-drenched to be coming from a polar bear...

Let's see, Liona is nearing 60 and Ana is under 25. Liona cultivated a reputation as a sex kitten, was Pierre Trudeau's longtime paramour along with a host of other notables. Ana, on the other hand is still studying, was a child prodigy, and is a serious-minded Croat virtuoso with technique from here to kingdom come. I'm glad your daughter plays...

Dooj, here's LG's original request. I don't think we can go wrong.

Idiot Jam Couldn't find the video, but the audio is still up. This was simply an open mic at a gathering of old fart acoustic guitar players of varying skills. My two tracks are a Brazilian piece by Paolo Bellinati and an arrangement of At The Cradle by Grieg, alovely piece. I wish the playing was sharper...not ready for prime time. The recorded sound is very nice, though. Scroll down to my name for my tracks.

I don't think the vid of me playing is still out there. I'll look around and see if it's still up. Ana's video is from someplace else...I think it's a venue in Europe somewhere. Liona's nice but she's been outclassed by Ana...in more ways than one.

Time is not the essence you seek, grasshopper. (1. She was a child prodigy 2. Good classical technique is not possible without close guidance from a good teacher. 3. Old farts can get pretty good from scratch, but never very facile.)

While we're on the subject; hot chick with monster chops schools all you musical heathens. HAHA

A few things: You said you found your perspective has changed which is understandable. Can you elaborate on how, both at home and here? A request: IF she's so inclined, would your daughter be so kind as to give a death announcement here on the 'Spot? Doubtless, people will comment and she might find them worth reading. Again, if she's so inclined.

Are you pursuing hospice resources in your area? We've had great experiences with the local civic hospice foundation, though I've heard others that used private hospice providers didn't have such a great experience. In our case the service was free. Besides the care they provide, they had some good reading material on death that helped all of us in preparation for the inevitable.

Oh, my post on the other thread belongs here... The way my foggy brain remembers is VP surmising that if EW had lived another x years, he'd a figured out the Trinity was bogus. ! Did you catch the implication? That VP's "special knowledge" of the Godhead was deeper and beyond Bullinger's accumulated Bible knowledge. That's not just a gutsy (and unprovable) claim, it strikes me as another calculated "listen to me keeeds, Ah gawt the deeeepest knowledge of all" designed to set up exclusivity and dependence.

CES is in a Mess...

F'real??!! -
Well, geez it's a mere 10/10. Still, I wonder if the resident maladroits (of which there are plenty) will dare to post their poor results?

Welcome to the 'spot, Paradigm. -
Honestly we weren't thinking dog soldiers, never having hear of such a creature. It was more along the lines of considering ourselves puny little unnoticed Corps-bots, but hey, a living dog (despised thing) is mo' better than a dead lion. Ie: at least we're alive... I wonder what Rod & Maureen are up to these days.

Thank you for the gift of the post, George. I'm filled with grief over the prospect of losing you, even though I don't know you other than through your posts. Through them I know of your reasonableness, intellect, power of expression and breadth of knowledge. I'd also like to say I'm sorry for your daughter. It's an uncommon gift to know something of your remaining time. We've been down this road more than a few times, and the anticipated death of a loved one has been, without fail, a time of growth and maturing for all of us. You have a great opportunity to give this gift to your daughter, a legacy of your knowledge, memories, secrets if you're inclined, hopes, etc. When this soaks in a bit more I'll post more. I wish I knew you face to face.

Rock, forgive me but I'm resisting what feels to me like your attempt to control the conversation. That's all I have to say on the subject. Over & out. Incidentally, this sure would have kept us out of a number of our wars:
