from Colossians 2: The new moon is like a sabbath because demons have less freedom. (There is one church I found that was called the New Moon Holiness Church.) I always find it is easier to give God's love and kindness on the new moon. I had a big project due on the full moon, and as a response to prayer there was a big heavy cloud that covered the full moon, I found it to be a protective cover that mitigated the effect of the full moon. Another interesting thing about the full moon thread I mentioned above, is that it was from one year ago -- and it was, as this thread, begun about the time of the first full moon before passover. (3/5/04, and 3/16/03) a nice moon phase calendar is found here: www.stardate.org A :)-->," God [This message was edited by Kit Sober on March 07, 2004 at 7:18.]

As I see it there is a big difference between the "S*it happens" violence of the Wizard of Oz and Old Yeller and the "He did this for you, and God got him up from the dead." The random acts of violence which appear in movies and on the tv screen are the stuff nightmares are made of because there is no resolution, no conclusion that you can live with besides ".... happens." It's a big difference. I still have "nightmares" from The Wizard of Oz I saw it seems like a hundred years ago because there is no resolution to it. . . But The Passion of Christ was not like that at all. There is a real comfort to the soul of the movie. There but for the grace of God go I. Again, I loved it. :)-->," God

Severe storm damage. Received this from my daughter in law who lives in CA. With all the news on TV lately about the sub zero weather and snow that the east coast and upstate NY areas are experiencing, we shouldn't forget that Southern California has its share of devastating weather, also. I've attached a photo illustrating the damage caused to a home from a west coast storm that passed through the Los Angeles area yesterday. It really makes you cherish what you have, and reminds us not to take life for granted!!! Warning: The attached picture is quite graphic and may not be suitable for sensitive viewers. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :)-->," God

At many Catholic churches, on Fridays, after the Stations of the Cross, there is a meal of bread and soup. Very nice fellowship. And it seems, in the focus of the crucifixion, everyone seems kinder, gentler. And the stories of Pat and Mike abound. For example: Pat and Mike were two brothers in Ireland who loved each other very much. . . and the farm could not support them both, so Mike came over to America. And as a way to remember his brother, on Fridays, Mike would have stop at the local tavern and have two beers, one for himself and one for his brother Pat back home in Ireland. And one day Mike only ordered one beer, and the the tavern people thought something had happened to Pat back in Ireland. . . So the bartender came over and said, "I see you're only having one beer. Did something happen to your brother Pat back in Ireland?" "Oh, no," said Mike. "I gave up beer for Lent. This beer here is for my brother Pat." :)-->," God

well, from one hard of hearing person, subtitles are a requirement. In fact my most compassionate son said, "Mom, you will be one step ahead of most people seeing this movie because you are used to the subtitles." And Rafael, I set next to one of those guys as well. (It had me in tears being so close to him. I just pretended it was the movie making me cry.) :)-->," God

Dear Garth, I should have said, "How vital is seeing the Resurrection to believe on the Christ?" (corrected) I do agree that the malefactor did believe in the resurrection (implicit in his statement, "remember me when you come into your kingdom"). Also, you can believe in Spartacus or any one of a number of things, and time will tell what faith will open heaven's door. I have bet all my marbles on Jesus. Wasway -- that was funny about the comma. I responded the waybrain demon and said to myself, "Well, maybe he's right. We'll see. God is the judge of this, too." :)-->," God

How vital is seeing the Resurrection to believe on the Christ?: The other malefactor believed in the resurrection with only The Passion of Christ as evidence -- only the messiah could go through the crucifixion. I'm on the view of Paul, "Preach Christ and Him crucified" is good enough. I think the "protestant' side which skips over the Passion to the resurrection misses the full story line. Mel Gibson's goal was to film the "last 12 hours of Jesus' life," and that he did -- That's The Passion of Christ. There is the Resurrection. Brief but undeniable. Questions and more questions: where did Jesus get his clothes? The grave clothes were neatly folded. . .but He appeared as the gardener to Mary. . . And he looked like just a guy to the two on the road to Emmaus . . . Mel Gibson has him getting up naked. . . Does he just think of the kind of clothes he wants to wear? I am looking forward to the sequel -- the battle of armageddon -- that's one bloody sequence! :)-->," God [This message was edited by Kit Sober on February 29, 2004 at 14:34.]

Mel's Mary was a really good mom. For me it was an especially refreshing viewpoint. Honorable and honored, sensitive and dignified. I loved it. :)-->," God

My favorite Mel Gibson moment was the woodshop scene. I also liked the raven going after the other malefactor. Great Mary -- good woman. good mother. from an email today: hopefully,:)-->," God

The justification was from the use of the word "know" -- and since Jesus bore all our sins, it seems logical that sexual abuse would be included in the things He endured on our behalf. (As I understand vp did have a ministry of a teacher -- the problem came when he decided to sell that ministry, and the people who trusted him, for a "mess of pottage" so to speak. His ministry at one time was genuine.) :)-->," God

derail note: Fred has a Zig Ziglar day-to-day calendar in the bedroom. NOTE: Zig Ziglar lives what he preaches. He is wonderful. TWI put a bad taste to a lot of godly things by the hypocricy they glued to them. The positive attitude of life is not bad, it's they hypocricy of using people, of having a gimmee view which is hurtful to all, and which needs to be cut out of our thought patterns like cancer cells. :)-->," God

I thought it was great -- with some great "Mel Gibson moments" of humor (the workshop scene was a favorite) that provided a breath of relief for the soul. Great satan. Great snake scene. Some torture elements I hadn't even thought of. No sexual torture. I don't have flashbacks of "the violence" because the violence isn't the end -- there's the resurrection. That's what I see. In flashbacks of violence that come from other movies -- those violent acts were the end in themselves. But The Passion isn't the violence, but our salvation. I thought the stark contrast of the violent torture and the quiet words of Jesus ("Love your enemies... bless them that persecute you. . . . They hated me, they will hate you. . . this is my body which is broken for you...do this in memory of me...") made His words more awesome. Jesus laughed. It was great. Some stuff only Holy Spirit could have showed him. I loved it. Mel Gibson indeed put all his knowledge of torture action into play. He has a great knowledge of how to show torture (Lethal Weapon series was a training ground.) Big difference: satan is defeated -- as the saying goes, "I've read the ending. God wins." That's the message of the movie. :)-->," God

Random violence: If people saw more of the actual nature of "random" violence, and the cost, which this movie depicts some of, the world would be a lot better off. To make known Jesus Christ and Him crucified really was the thrust of Paul's life, and Billy Graham's mother told him (and he listened to his mother) "You just preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified." This movie, from what I have seen, although more graphic than most Jesus movies, the violence of the movie falls short of the reality of the thing. (I saw the tv special Sunday and last nite), and I have my ticket for the 5:30 pm show today) Jesus really was so marred beyond the form of a man he didn't even look like a man. He was literally beaten to a pulp. :)-->," God

I'd rather be a fool for Christ than a religious tight-wad. IMHO the big reason why vpw discouraged giving to ANYTHING other than twi was because he wanted it all -- all allegience as well as all our money. (I pray for every gift to go to the heart -- and who knows, but that maybe the alcoholic maybe quickened to fing the courage to go to an AA meeting.) Hopefully :)-->," God
