  1. I once did a self-test for Alzheimers, and one of the telling criteria for Alzheimers was "avoid social contact." And that was post-twi me to a T. And decided I didn't want to end there. And now I push myself to get out outside and meet with and be with real people. Hardly any twi people around here so anything works, church, theater, shopping, friendly outings. There are So Many People out there to interact with. It's great. And as mentioned by others, people aren't waiting to outcast you, rebuff, reject and ridicule you, generally speaking.
  2. Another great fearful phrase that twi totally missed is "fear God." Finding affirmation of that healthy fear -- the fear God is what keeps you from doing what God requires even when you don't "want" to. Fear God keeps you "wanting" to please God above all else.
  3. Watching "Facing the Giants" movie made by Sherwood Baptist Church. Fear and overcoming fear is a major theme in the movie. "...God in His Word says 'fear not' 365 times. . . . Thanks. I needed to hear that." "...Sounds like your fear's about to clobber your faith. . . . Yeah. Something like that." IMHO the primary reason why so many of the "cliche's of twi fell so flat is that they were not held with nor spoken with Holy Spirit power. Many of the words vpw stole were good words, but without the Holy Spirit behind them, they did more harm than good because the powerless-ness of the words were attributed to the principle they addressed. The principle of "fear not" is vital to our lives, but without the Holy Spirit to give us strength and power to fight the giants in our lives, those giants of fear will overcome us. (It was the Holy Spirit in David that slew Goliath, not his good rock-slinging ability. The battle, still today, is the Lord's.)
  4. Happy Valentine's Day. Hope it's sweet, in every way. May you always remember (all ways, every day) That God's love is here to stay!
  5. Gene was a dear friend. Haven't heard from him since 1995 or so. Would love to get in touch with him. Thanks. Fred and Kit Sober
  6. I would say, as you feel led to do so. Sometimes "a person convinced against his will is of the same opinion still." I have this situation at work right now, where I tried to make some injustice known, and my boss just thought it was me being critical and not the kind-hearted person she "thought" I was. And my elderly and wise neighbor said, "if you give someone enough rope, they will hang themselves." In other words, truth will out. And sometimes slinging mud just makes yourself dirty. And you might conclude it's not worth it, but leave it in God's [mighty] Hand.
  7. So sorry for your loss, and hope it is mitigated by the evidence here of people who care and are thankful for the privilege of knowing him. A good man leaves a good memory . Glad he lived, Kit Sober Reno NV
  8. the only thing I have had experience with is that these people pick on nice people because those are the ones who are most likely to not guess. Takes one to know one kind of logic. vp picked on kind-hearted true-hearted people who loved God and thought that everyone else did so as well.
  9. The Lord has given us the foolishness of preaching to save people. Words are spoken -- for good or ill. An example to my heart now is Billy Graham. He not only preaches to the crowd and to individual people along the way but also he preaches by the sermon in shoes of his life. Kathryn Kuhlman would agonize in prayer before a meeting because she knew that if the Holy Spirit did not work, there would be no work done. The integrity of the "sermon in shoes" part is what keeps the Holy Spirit around. And it's the Holy Spirit that gives life to the words spoken. Many of the words of twi were good words that were plagiarized, and because the Holy Spirit was not in the words spoken by vp and his cadre (hypocrisy is a good way to keep the Holy Spirit out of your life), the impartation of goodness and life of the Holy Spirit was not there.

    racism

Saw "Crash" (the movie) and I was impressed with the light on the concept of racism it shined. I personally think racism is best addressed and eliminated on a personal level, with the personal determination to do the right thing, irregardless of the external circumstances and response. The Bible, in Ephesians, gives the people of God direction on social decorum which is not governed by external circumstances but only on our trust and confidence in the Lord and His power to protect and deliver us in all situations.
  11. I am looking for a nice place to find graphic pictures -- my hobby is making up [tacky] greeting cards. In answer to a prayer request for birthday cards for a man 86 years old who had lost his wife, and his will to live was waning, named Dewey Thompson, I was reminded of the camp song we did as kids: "Dewey was the grass on an early morn in May. Dewey was the Admiral at Manila Bay. Dewey were her eyes as she bid her love adieu. Do we love each other, I should say we do." This has hand motions 1st line pat the "grass". Second line, salute. Third line wipe tear from eye. Fourth line give your friend a hug. For a card, I needed pictures. This job has been done, but I had to endure a lot of "testing" in finding the pictures I needed, and that's what prompted this request. Thanks for any help you have. NOTE: This was not a twi song, in fact when I did Children's fellowship I had a hard time using it. Now I know why. .
  12. Any suggestions for good (as in safe) locations for graphics? (I have tried a number of different pages of graphics and they either cost or I had to do a survey to get to the pictures, and then web site was asking me to download their program. )

    Need help

One of the nicest things I have seen for a memorial service is to give people a meaningful remembrance from the person -- not just the canned brochure the funeral home has, but a nice little brochure that has pictures, stuff your brother did/said, address and phone of who can be contacted afterwards, where buried (they can send flowers later, too), any details of stuff that would be forgotten after the moment. I don't remember much details from any funeral/memorial service I attended due to emotion of the moment, but a remembrance can be a real treasure. I have done a couple for friends, and they really liked them, and I would be happy to help you put something together if you would like. The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony where I worked for 3 1/2 years did this kind of thing for all their tribal members, and it is really nice.
  14. you would have to cut out gambling to make it work. An incredible amount of$ is poured into those place. No one is helped, unless you c onsider the jobs provided by casino developers and other workers.
  15. I would weigh in on the side of "the bigger the government the more the problems." When I was in college (I graduated from California State school, UC Berkeley, in 1972). Registration was $49 a quarter. Period. Legislation was being introduced to raise tuition. Now it's up to over $175 per unit per quarter. And books and supplies will kill you now! When the legislation was being introduced, I felt so sorry for the middle class white kids who would be coming around because the justification was that there would be scholarships, grants and low-interest loans for the kids who needed it, and I knew the kids like myself, lower middle class, [hard] working class white would not have the high finances to go to school. The State university system was developed after the war to ensure America could compete academically and maintain an intellectual competence. What a travesty it has become!!! Of the staff I work with, all much younger white middle class working men. 1. 1 mid-40's guy got his degree taking night classes and online. It was very expensive. 2. One guy had his wife support him while he got his degree. 3. Two guys had parents and grandparents who helped pay their way. Our admin assistant is (black) is in school by grants and scholarships and she does a lot of her school work on company time. She is a dear, and I am happy for her, but just wish education was more equally available. My son went into the Marine Corps to be able to qualify for the GI bill to go to school. He stretched his GI bill out by working and only using part of it, but he has been borrowing student loans after his gi bill ran out,and I think the weight of that is getting him very discouraged so that he is thinking of quitting before graduating. I only hope he can finish, and I wish I could have helped him more.
  16. Vegetables baked in olive oil: Cube / coarsely chop Eggplant Zucchini green peppers onions carrots Tomato paste Put in covered baking dish with Italian spices and olive oil. Bake 350 until a little soft. Serve with fresh bread for soaking up extra olive oil. Any vegetables will work. Eggplant and Zucchini soak up olive oil nice. Like what Coolchef has below, except Italian spices and no sautée first. Son Paul came over and made it for us and it was delicious.
  17. Sin I believe is deadly. The opposite of goodness I would put as evil. (God is good.) I think your "opposites" are preliminary and watered down. For example a child is impulsive, assertive. A long-time practicer of wicked ways becomes evil. Think, "look what vpw, lcm, and obl have done." These are men who have fruit of wickedness in their lives. Wickedness is not a mild thing. Fruits are the result of work. Sins are a type of work. (I was astounded to find out that evil men have friends, too. Of course their friends are like them.) Goodness and evil -- if you work at doing good, your fruit is goodness. Those who work at evil become evil. These are my fleeting thoughts and in no way exhaustive treatment of the subject. The PALE GAS sins I found on the internet, and I have extrapolated what I think the fruits of those sins would be. The 7 deadly sins are sometimes defined as (Memory aided as PALE GAS). Sin produces sinful fruit. Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity. Produces arrogance and consequential separation from God. Avarice/Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness. Produces selfishness. Destroys compassion. Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body. Produces depravity. Destroys graceful living. Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. Produces hate. Destroys mercy. Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires. Produces one's own physical death. A type of suicide or self-murder. Kills yourself. Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath. Produces murder. Kills others. Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work. Produces destruction. Evil spirits allowed reign to destroy. Opens the way for them to steal.
  18. After I fill the sink with hot water, then the next thing is I add a little bleach and some soap, then the next thing is I wash the dishes and load the dishwasher. In the morning when I get up the next thing is I make the bed, then the next thing is I lay my clothes out, then the next thing is I take a shower, then the next thing is I get dressed. . . . Then the next thing is I start the car so it warms up, then the next thing is I make sure the bathroom is clean from my morning ritual and the kitchen is clean from breakfast and I bless the house and thank the Lord I have a place to live, then the next thing is I might get a cup of coffee and I thank God I have two hands to work with and have such nice stuff to eat and drink, then the next thing is I am out the door. . . Then the next thing is i thank God for getting me such a nice car to drive to work, and the next thing is I drive to work and pray for people on the way to work . . . then the next thing is I park the car and the Lord reminds me to turn the lights off before I go into work. That's all I mean, I just try to live every moment in the presence of the Lord. I don't have many main stage moments any more. I just try to live as I think a Christian should, hiding out in my refuge Christ Jesus.
  19. I have been thinking that it's the next thing that we have (as in have in our hand not forced) to do. We work, have a family, have a home, the "mundane" things of life that can be lived in the presence of the Lord, 24/7. Just like the geese fly halfway around the world, and no one sees them, but other geese as they fly along, each taking their turn leading the formation, but not too much so they don't get over tired. Walking with the Holy Spirit is not a movie star walk.
  20. I thought it might have to do with birds need to do what they are "called" to do . . . After seeing "March of the Penguins" or "Winged Migration" I was astounded with the calling of these creatures -- yet they just do what they do. No whining or complaining. People are called to sow and reap and gather into barns. We should do it with the same doing a bird flys on the wings of the morning. The more we listen to the Holy Spirit and sail on His breath of the morning, doing what He has "called" us to do, I think the more well-pleasing to the Lord it is to see us at work. In the same manner we enjoy watching birds sail on the wind, so the Lord loves to watch us work in His timing, sailing on the wind of His breath.
  21. I thought this was nice. Personally, I believe our work on earth is to represent Jesus to people.
  22. definitely not silly -- sad, deplorable and a lot of other things, yes, but not silly.
  23. All I can say . . . Praying with you and for you for you and for your kids and family (oh how their grandmother must weep for them, too). (The sooner you find these things out, the better. I didn't find out the reality of twi child abuse stuff until both my kids were 18+.)
  24. I thought you were going to Tahiti, and I had my "It's a Wonderful Life" quote regarding Tahiti ready to go. Ditto to what Rocky said Years ago Fred thought we would do a "freebie" (we got some electronic toy that was current at the time I think) and we ended up getting conned into signing up for the time share, and it was a headache to unload later when we returned to the sanity of our home. (Fred is a salesmen and salesmen are the easiest to sell.) Praying for your safe trip:)
