Fred's favorite comment regarding "The Passion" was when Mel Gibson was asked in an interview why he didn't soften the ugliness and brutality of the thing and Mel replied, "I did."

Dear BikerBabe, Many happy returns to you for all the (appreciated and unappreciated) kindness you have given into the world. Thanks, Kit Sober Reno NV

Exie et al, It's never to late for your dream. You may not be able to be a dancer, but you can still dance. And as far as helping kids on the sly. . . I would guess there are many who will be part of your crown (not of thorns but of jewels). In hope,

what if your nametag said, "Donna Reed"? What then?

All these young kids around here! But from an old lady who will always be thankful for your kindness: And hoping you have many happy birthdays ahead.

Congratulations. Hope there are many more aces in his future.

Garth, that's all I know.

He left a note that said, "By" I dont even know his name, but a friend at work was given the information by her son's teacher. So much pressure comes from parents laying their troubles on their kids -- telling them of their troubles with paying the bills, etc. Kids should have time to have a childhood of riding bikes and blowing bubbles.

. . . adding my two cents, too. Of course agreeing that the cops were wrong. If not legally, certainly ethically. Police officers are a different breed by and large from when we were kids. When Fred's ham-radio friend retired from the Roseville CA police force, the high school marched to the police station to request he not retire so soon. Bob Metke was a friend to many. 20 some odd years later, circa 1995, I lost my job, got kicked out of twi, kids had movedn away from home -- it was not a high point of my life -- But I thought I could still go drive around the high school and pray for the kids. A really rude policeman gave me a speeding ticket and treated me like a criminal -- in front of all those kids. made my day. The cop was wrong, and I wanted to fight it -- and also tell that policeman how important it was to those kids to treat them with dignity and kindess so they would want to be law abiding. . . Cop didn't show up for court. Ticket was discarded, but I was so sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to the police officer. And of course you know about "Reno 911." Not so far from the truth. Policeman just aren't genrally the same as they used to be. Too bad. Of course, there are some who are, because being a policeman is a noble profession for someoen who wants to help make the world a nicer place. Excathedra your kids are so blessed (if Ican use that word here) to have you on their side. in hope,

As a little girl my mom taught me the Lord's prayer, the Rosary. I yearned for the intimate and ongoing prayer relationship the Bible speaks of (pray without ceasing for example). I used to fall asleep while praying -- in fact the "rest to the soul" was almost all I knew. Now. . . after over 40 years of working on it, I find I know when the electrical connection is on. Now I am awakened at 2:30, 3:30 am or so to pray on a daily basis. And when I do make the effort to turn aside (Exodus 3:3 so to speak) the day goes along with God's touch. And when I don't get up to pray it's like Geo says, things just go along. Whenever things come to mind, I pray, but the time alone and before the Lord are the most precious times of my day. A few days ago I had thoughts about mountain climbing and it's relation to prayer. I never did mountain climbing, but I work at praying. The pins and clips hold the climber to the mountain as he works his way both up and down. Ropes and clips hold the mountain climbers together. So Bible verses, the prayers of others, words of others, our kindly affection one to another, our faith, are our clips and pins and ropes holding us to the mountain and to each other. Sometimes some peoples' pins get dislodged from the mountain and only the clips and ropes to the other mountain climbers keep a climber from falling, and preventing troubles, depending upon how high and treacherous the mountain being climbed. (Not all mountains are like Sylvester Stallone's "Cliffhanger.") And so it is up to some who are still pinned and clipped to the mountain to bear the weight of climbers who have become unglued so to speak. Boy's Town motto and logo is a picture of a young boy carrying a smaller boy on his back, "He's not heavy, he's my brother." Helping others is a nice thing from prayer.

if only. . . if only vpw hadn't sold his ministry for a mess of pottage things like this we at one time cherished would be of value because then they would represent a commitment to the Lord, inherited and present. However, they only represent fool's gold. So sad. So glad the Lord has not cast us off as cheaply as vp cast off the Lord.

been reading "Drawing Near" by John Bevere, and last nite I when reading I was reminded how our hunger for the Lord is our responsibility, and filling that hunger is His. (If we fill up on junk food we won't be hungry for the good stuff.) I believe the Lord is still able to find us where we live. He knows our address and is able to find a way into our hearts. And each of us has an individually tailored curriculum in His school. (I no longer toss out the concept of "testing", and I believe that Abraham was tested by the Lord with the request to sacrifice his beloved Isaac.) So my yearning to know in the category of finding God is, "Are you still on a quest to draw near to God?"

Hoping your life together is full of God's kind kind of kindness.

I don't suppose twi belongs to ECFA? What's ECFA? -
Interesting question. 1. I have been reading some of John Bevere's works, especially "Rescued," and "Driven by Eternity," and he has very non-twi thoughts. And I am becoming much more concerned about doing things I will be thankful I did when I meet the Lord. I am of the opinion now that many of the verses we flipped off regarding going to hell for our sins. 2. I am helping my elderly neighbor get the paperwork together for his place in a National Cemetery, do a will, etc. (helping him get his affairs in order). So I am working on it, and only recently.

Reading about Ruth Graham, now that her life is summed up, brings me to tears. So many people loved and respected her, cherished her when she was alive, and cherish her memory now. What a lesson in the effect of a life lived in the presence of the Lord.
