  1. You know there is so much we could complain about but every yea,r even considering all the bad, I looked forward to going back. There was a lot of fun to be had. I liked the full meal tent and the food there and the farmers market wasn't all bad. But every year I could catch up with old friends and meet people from all over the country. An opportunity you wouldn't get otherwise. I have wanted to go to the Burning man one year for that reason. To meet new folks and enjoy a week among the most eccentric people you could imagine. I am sure there are horror stories about that event too.
  2. Nothing more sexy than a man in a uniform and the power BP has.. woopie, that would be enough to kill the ladies every time.
  3. Ooo la la. Sounds like Oakspear was a player in his day.
  4. WB, but her role was so small in the scheme of the whole story. In the book Jenny didn't die and that was one of those issues of the day being interjected into the movie. They didn't say she had aids because of excessive drug use but they insinuated it. Forest didn't get to raise his son, Jenny did. And the worst part is they left out his wrestling character. That was sooo funny. the diapers the crying. Oh man. Didn't forest make a military speech in the movie when in the book he threw his medal away because Jenny convinced him the war was bad. Lot's of discrepancies from the book to the movie. They tried to fit it into the time frame of today but lost something in translation. But is there a role that Sally didn't do justice? She is one of the top notch actresses of her day. She knows how to portray a character. I must admit she was funny in the movie and played the part well. I even liked her short lived role on ER when she played Abby's bi-polar mom. She really convinced me of her plight.
  5. CC what a thought. ewwww, this visual this causes isn't pleasant.
  6. Actually that was his son. At this time this happened Senior was in the institution. I never met him. Wish I had but I knew his wife and crazy son. Ok the most annoying sound at the ROA. Beautiful Ohio sung every morning. I hated waking up to that and some mornings it told me I didn't have time to get a shower before my shift doing whatever job I was assigned to that year.
  7. You know John Nash Jr. was in my parents fellowship. His dad is the one they did the Beautiful Mind movie about. Anyway he swore that he was supposed to Dr. Wierwille's assistant. He decided he was going to go back to the green room during one teaching and had to be sent home. My parents were called in to handle it since they were his tc's. I don't remember who took the crazy fool home but someone had to miss the rock to handle that. I was just 14 then so I don't really know all the details. He was just one example of the psychos that were running around on the grounds during this event. Anybody who could pay the entry fee was allowed to go. And you have no idea of all the teen sex that was going on. I was appalled. I managed to keep myself from indulging but at 14 and 15 I was amazed at the "fornicating" that my peers were involved in. I never felt like I fit in with my peers there and generally ended up hanging out with the adults.
  8. Well I think they would all be a waste of the only time most people have to rest and relax whether it be Football or some other activity.
  9. Geeze Linda I was trying to come up with some kind of comeback to that one. You hit the nail on the head. ewwww Now you have ruined me for hotels stays. My kids and I love to get a hotel in our town in the winter to swim and be pampered now all I will be able to think about is how the bed spreads haven't been washed. Yuck!!! Thanks TS. lol
  10. Mstar, now that's a club that sounds fun. I bet it would be hard to catch your partner.
  11. One year Craig yelled at us all (corps mainly) and blamed us for the weather. He said we weren't believing. That was the year there were monsoon like winds and my tent blew over with me in it. I had to run to the corps tents and take up residence there for the remainder of the event. I always hated corps tents because everyone was so disrespectful to those trying to sleep. And as much as we had to work we needed our sleep. My oxford bible bit the dust that year. I still have it but it was moldy and nasty I kept it to transfer the notes but never finished the task.
  12. Johnny, I love your stories!!!! I never joined the club because of my air sickness problem but I think the most exotic place for me was that back seat of a car. Geeze I just haven't lived.
  13. DM are you refering to the airplane?
  14. Chas - you are a hoot. roflmao. Belle - I would comment but I do want to keep it clean. lol
  15. I seemed to get caught in the rain and ruin my belongings many years when it rained. Especially that one year when it rained like a monsoon. I hated being wet and cold in a tent with no way to warm up. When my folks were on staff and owned a house in New Knoxville I could finally avoid that soggy feeling and just stayed with them the entire time.
  16. **Blushing** No story just a fantasy and that's all I will say about that.
  17. the thread is long so if I repeat something that was already said forgive me but reading the entire thread would take me a long time. There were men and women in the Way that would allow their lives to show although they were few. Vince's name came up. I was involved with him from the time I was a young girl and never felt that I couldn't approach him. He even listened to my logic in areas and allowed me to think for myself that was rare as other leaders would push their opinions on me and I would just follow like a sheep going to the slaughter. Another awesome example of the word that one cannot forget was Donny, god rest his soul. No one could get answers to prayers like that man and time and time again when I would pray with Donny the prayer was answered and it was answered quickly. He was definitely a sermon in himself.
  18. Well I think I will stick to the use of the cubicle. I get airsick real bad and don't think there is anything romatic about puking on your partner. Guess I could bring along a little dramamine.
  19. The sad thing is that many, like myself (brought up in the way, corps grad, loved to serve) are so soured by what occurred in our years in the way we don't really want to be a part of anything new. I am just happy to live my life, get an education and raise my kids to know God, but to serve like I wanted to in the Way. At this point I will say never again. Maybe that will change someday but right now that's how I feel, and I have been out for over 4 years.
  20. Hey WB, no prob. The opening paragraph had me almost peeing my pants. When I saw the movie I was very disappointed.
  21. You know Forest Gump the book is hilarious. Nothing like the movie, I think they were trying to hit some of the issues of the time when they made that and it vered from the book a lot. But the book made me crack up.
