I think the keywords are "by TWIt standards". I don't think Raf will have any problem with it.

Paw - it may be a memory or virtual memory issue. If you upgrade your RAM to at least 256 MB or 516 MB, and reset your virtual memory to be at least 1 GB, you may experience better performance. OddTom, what is your reason for wanting to upgrade your operating system? You might be better off sticking with 98 until you upgrade to a different machine. We've got a desktop machine running 98, and it does okay.

Wow, awesome!

Washnwear, I'm shocked! Johnny's a married man!!

THAT'S it. The Odd one is hereby ExCommunicated from the HeMan (**) Club!!

So what IS the nickname in certain circles? PT me if you would rather not say in the open. As far as the nickname for FF, I've heard "Fantastic Feh!" but of course, that remains to be seen.

CK - what??? I've got an IBM Thinkpad with a removable hard drive. There's NO way that the hard drive from the ibm will fit into a desktop computer. Unless you know something that I don't know. br, Steve

I don't, really. I don't know him well enough. It just seemed like SOMEONE needed to start this thread!

to whatever moderator it may concern: if you so desire, move this thread to the Just Plain Silly forum. It just seemed to me that we needed One More Thread about John Lynn.

Laleo - I spent a bit of time researching the difference, and irony is "little sarcasm" - irony is when there is a discrepancy between words and their meanings, like you say, but sarcasm is more conceptual. It has more to do with the overall concept of the entire passage. It's ironic to say, "I really like your dress" when your meaning is "I really DON'T like your dress!". It's sarcasm when there are discrepancies between words and meanings, but the comment is regarding the whole passage. Satire uses sarcasm.

Well, except legally you would have to pay for each copy of the software, generally. Unless you had no problem with pirated software.
-
Well, Z, you should take to Mary Fister and her 5 helpers. Or Rosy Palmer.
-
Well, OddTom, in this case, "irony" would be more appropriate, but yes, most people would call it sarcasm.

I don't know that it needs to be bootable. You can get external hard drives that connect to a USB port. Just hook it right up to the computer that you are using. It gets set up as the next drive letter. If you've got a C: drive and a CD or DVD drive at D:, the external drive might become E:. You can have all your program shortcuts point to E: instead of C:. Not a big deal. The effort involved would be to change your shortcuts on each machine. On your desktop machine, you might have another drive, and then the external would become the F: drive.

For all men everywhere that have to endure chick flicks - There is a personal DVD player that displays its picture on a pair of special glasses worn by the viewer. It costs about $700, I think - or maybe it's $7000, hehehe. Either way, it's well worth it. While you're with your sweetie who's watching "Boy Tragically Dies After Meeting Soulmate", you're watching "Debbie Does Dishes And Half of Manhattan" and no one is the wiser!! Or maybe your preference is "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" (actual title of StarWars Episode 3, due out next May!)

Mike, it's such a shame you gave up your career as a brain surgeon.

There is now a 4th book in the series. Considering the fact that the first movie bears only passing resemblance to the first book, and the second movie (from what I've seen in the trailers) has even less resemblance to the second book, I don't think that a correlation can be made.

So does anyone know the current whereabouts and/or status of Darrell Knutson? Last I knew, and this is going back years, he was in Portland, OR, and "in".
-
Well, you *can* read it, but not without difficulty. As for me, because it is so difficult to read, I *won't* read it. Not because I have anything against Chuck - I've got no quarrel with him - but because I generally avoid such posts.

Post-traumatic stress disorder. It's also called "Vietnam Vet's Disease".

SBC and Bellsouth jointly own Cingular? Hmmmmm. And Cingular just recently bought AT&T Wireless. So it looks like we're coming full circle.

Rottsy, you are absolutely right, I'm just jealous that I don't have AOL. I sure wish I did, but we're locked into this cable modem through Comcast for the next 12 months.

For technogeeks, AOL is the internet on training wheels. But I know a *lot* of people who really love it. Hey, whatever floats your boat!
