Roy- I hope you watch shows other than Fox now and then. It is amazing the different ideas that are on other networks.

Obama did not lie, in all versions of the bill in any committee, credits and Federal health care funds to illegal immigrants is forbidden. http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1921455,00.html Wilson is wrong, not Obama, on this issue.
-
Mark- I am aware of the bill process, but thanks for explaining it for anyone who might not be familiar with this time honored system. You propounded that I knew stuff would not be in the bill I explained I did not, and, in fact expect part of it to be included. Peace. I think more of us agree on "conscience clauses" than you might think, at least here in CO (a curious mix of left and right, faith and faithless, causes we have here)
-
Mark- I certainly do not KNOW for certain about whether either of those clauses will be explicitly included. If I were to hazard a guess however, I think conscience clauses should and WILL be explicitly included as logical compromises. No health care provider should be required to provide end of life counseling or procedures, whether near the beginning of life or towards the end. Other providers can and should give such counseling and services to patients seeking them. I do think that insurance coverage should include these, but you raise a good argument then about the coverage provided to employees of firms who oppose such procedures. I will have to ponder that. In other words, on this issue, I understand the concerns you and Kit express especially regarding Catholic principles. I was initially only meaning to address Kit's comment about requiring hospitals to provide abortion procedures, and I very much doubt such a requirement has a chance of being included or that Catholic Hospitals will be forced to close. One reason is the political reality of the administration needing the support of a group who otherwise has a general conceptual support for the reforms. Of course that conceptual support still has a long list of specifics that must be considered before it comes to agreement. ~HAP

Roy, I believe Oeno presented numbers that indicate we already have too many infant deaths. One reason is the lack of prenatal care affordable to pregnant women. yet another reason affordable health care and universal coverage is needed. Kit- I know of no provision that would require all hospitals to provide abortions. Some of the proposals do require insurance coverage for the procedure. Pretty much everyone, including the late Senator Ted Kennedy and President Obama has stated that they do not support requiring health care PROVIDERS to violate their conscience on such things, to the best of my knowledge. Further, most proposals I believe would require insurance abortion coverage to be funded by private dollars, in accordance with existing Federal law.

I built a Tesla coil in junior high. that sucker could send a spark 3 feet. But I thought the correct spelling of his first name was Nikola but 1964 was a long time ago and my memory might have been zapped by the 250 kv at (if I recall correctly) .01 ma.

yikes, you advocate civil war? Because some of us want health care to be more accessible to everyone? Just because you have access to the health care you need, please do not forget many of us do not. No one should die because they cannot afford health care, and no one should go broke because they get sick.

well, if a potential employer did a background check on him, found the zoom info page then checked out his references at greasespot.com, wellllllllll..........could be an interesting job interview.

well said Ham, I don't disagree with any of that. I simply add that in my view, the goal of building positive self esteem is to enhance learning. (edit to add a word)
-
i disagree with you George, but then I am not there in TX. I have not seen our curriculums here in CO "dumbed down", and I know there is no requirement to pass a kid on to the next level in my school district. We view the students here as LEARNERS rather than boxes to be stuffed with meaningless data dumps. It works well for us. Here, many of the changes in curriculum have been driven by the business community, who want their future employees to be able to think problems through to a resolution, and to work with other employees to get the job done. These changes are in addition to the regular strong math, english and science standards. Can you point me to more than a couple of isolated stories about parent's suing for their kid's self esteem being hurt by a teacher? You speak as though it is a common practice. I have not heard of much of that anywhere, and none in CO. Is that a way of life in the courts for people in TX or something? For the record, I am quite pleased with the education my boys got in their public school years here. I do not think they were a peculiarity. I know many many many wonderful young people who are able to think, solve problems, write well, and participate in and effect change in their community. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with them, working with them, and sitting around talking with them. I am sorry you do not seem to have the same joy of doing that which I do.

Hmmm next Saturday would be a good day to find a good radio show commemorating that day in music history. I wonder if anyone knows a good link?

Your argument is grossly overstated IMO. I suppose it depends on how one defines "corrects a child" however. For that matter, I disagree with your claim that kids are more unruly today then we were, and I lived my whole childhood on various army posts. I wonder if there is some hormone thing that kicks in for some people at a certain age whereby they get older and start to complain about the next generation. I think my grandpa had that condition, and my dad to a lesser degree. Mom never succombed to it, and fortunately it seems to have skipped me. teachers AND parents correct children every day, without being abusive or sued.

while you are at it, what do you mean by this too?

well...................http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_11 Landing was at 4:17 pm EDT on Sunday, July 20th (with @25 seconds of fuel remaining) Armstrong put his left foot on the moon at 10:56 pm EDT, Sunday July 20th. Adjust the time and date to your own earth position on that day. edit: (it took 5 minutes to go down the ladder), as Paw said, he started his descent at 10:51 p.s. Unfortunately I do NOT remember what I did that day. I did see it. (if it really happened)

I add my greetings, friend. may your next year be better than the last, and may they all get better from here on out.

it's not a scam. It has been around for years, and is not a commercial venture. Money, insurance refunds, jewelry from forgotten safety deposit boxes etc. are turned over the the State treasurers by law after a certain amount of time. You can go to your State treasurer's website and find the lists also. Remember to look in the States you once lived in times past. There have been some scams rise up from these lists, but they are more like "We will find your money....for a fee". The website linked by the OP is not like that. If you find your name on their list, you can follow links direct to the office that has control of that money, and from there you can submit a claim for it. The names on their list is provided free by NAUPA. REMEMBER, YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY ANYONE TO GET THIS MONEY. IT IS AN EASY PROCESS TO CLAIM IT YOURSELF. Sometimes it is only $10, sometimes hundreds or even thousands. I have found relatives and friends money, and they have collected it. Be sure to run the names of deceased people for whom you were an heir in their estate. Also try alternate spellings and common typos of your name. Like if you have an I in your name, try putting in an E, or if you have an A try it as an O. (handwritten applications are often miswritten when converted into a database) Find a match for yourself in a State you once lived? Submit a claim! Happy hunting. ~HAP

tis okay Rum, it struck me odd because Fort Collins is half the size of Boulder. Yep NCAR is pretty cool, and so are the Pearl Street restaurants. FoCo can hold its own cuisine wise however IMO ;) and most every night it's "old town" is live and happening. A great Thai restaurant equals the Nepalese one. Actually my preference is whichever one my young friend (the daughter of some old TWI friends) is currently the chef at but I digress.

well.......... I live in Colorado, and have for the last 33 years. Currently I am in Gunnison for the week. cost of living here is reasonable, and easy access to the things you listed. Hunting and fishing would be the prime sports, followed closely by skiing. Over dinner tonight, my friend mentioned a bear or lion got her goat yesterday. Personally I would like Boulder, but you need to be of at least a bit of a liberal bent to truly enjoy yourself there. It is known as the People's Republic of Boulder for a reason. Rock climbing, hiking, bicycling are the favorite pastimes. Housing is overpriced, but most everything else is typical front range cost. As someone mentioned, its setting by the Flatirons is remarkable. Colorado Springs is nice, but you are familiar with it. It is largely conservative christian, and also military (which still provides its economy base). Home to Focus on the Family and other mega groups of that ilk. Not my type, but I don't know your interests. I am not sure why Rum was dissing the size of Fort Collins (maybe he was thinking of ColoSpgs). It is HARDLY a large town, and the oldtown activities, restaurants and flair is remarkable. A good bit more conservative than Boulder, a moderate would be quite comfortable there. It has much more of a cowboy, western freedoms appeal than Boulder. Politically the area has the liberal flair of most college towns, but heavily tempered by the very conservative ideals of its important rural economic supporters. It has a good strong economy balanced soundly with technology, breweries (Bud and more importantly, New Belgium) and many other employment choices. FoCo has easy access to the northern Colorado mountains recreational hunting and fishing areas, Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as being an even one hour drive for the occasional jaunt into the "big" city (denver) (pssst. I have a house about ready for sale outside of Fort Collins in Laporte. Even better access to the mountains there) You might also consider Grand Junction, but the Coasters have discovered the place and it ain't what it used to be price wise. Durango is high priced housing but totally absolutely georgeous. Steamboat Springs is sweet too. From what you have mentioned so far, it sounds more like you'd rather be in the hills or near them more than out on the plains. Tell me more about your likes concerning winter and summer weather, and activity preferences, your job interests, cultural interests, housing expectations and I will try to hook you up with some ideas. I am leaning towards northern or western Colorado as my advice for you at the moment. ~HAP

Steve McNair was found dead today in a condo in Nashville. He was shot in the head. It apears to have been a double homicide but details seem hard to get at the moment. http://news.spreadit.org/steve-mcnair-dead-steve-mcnair-death/

what you are describing (configure post options) is on the screen WHILE you are writing a post. You won't find the button to edit until you post it the first time. That is the way it has always been. someone else already told you where the edit button is , when it is available, after you make the post.... on the right side of your post, under the + and - dots.

seeing as how the stated purpose of this board is directed towards TWI, it is reasonable that posts on it relate to our experiences with that group (or was it a grope) :) That does not mean that when we are outside this board we don't have other interests. I think you mischaracterize our poster's being "engrossed with TWI" because you do not see us outside of this forum. For that matter, there are many other parts of THIS forum that have other discussions. I for one rarely see TWI come up in my conversations outside of the limited time I am on this forum.
