  1. well you can't order direct from the site bookstore online, you have to call or write to place an order. What kind of worldwide presence is that? They do not even list the prices except for the WayRag. Let the buyer beware.
  2. 'nuff of this. There is no need to trash what goes on at other sites. They do not have enough traffic to warrant it, (in what I can see of their TWI forum). The current Mochat/JW/excult site appears to actively have in the last several months, one former GSC poster and two former prolific GSC posters who occasionally stop in here to post still. Where is it that most people come to hear more about the dark side of TWI? ayup, far and away it is the Greasespot. If we can't provide a comfortable place for them to post here, who cares if they post there?
  3. That WAS more than a little harsh Rum, and not equal to your usual self.

    A different 9/11

Twinky- sorry if I mislead with my wording. I was only 10 when it went up, living in Heidelberg, so I have few remembrances of the reactions at the time. I know my parents had a friend who was a professor at the University and she was quite upset about being cut off from ready access to relatives. My mother cried when it came down and said "Now Dr. Leben will be thrilled". My information about what it was like comes from a friend (Jurgen) I visited in 2006 near Callenberg. We spoke for an hour about what it was like, but I felt like I was intruding. He seemed really to want to forget those times. It might have been our difficulty in communicating (the only English he knew amounted to the word "ok". He grew up speaking German and Russian, and my german is mainly highschool era booklearning) but I think not. We spent 4 days together in eastern Germany while he showed us the area where my ancestry hails from. It was he who seemed to have more than a little pride that he had not spoken Russian in 10 years. He was quite happy to be united with the rest of Germany. Another friend (a sort of relative ancestrally back in the 1700s) did me a huge favor 10 years ago. I had written on a genealogy board that I would like to have pictures of the Grumbach area (southeast of Dresden) to show my father before he passed away. This gentleman responded and took several rolls of film which he developed and sent to me. When I pleaded with him to let me pay him, his response was "no, no, no. for so many years people in the east sent us packages of hope. I am very happy to finally be able to repay the kindness". I sent him a Denver Broncos hat anyway. The US west is still a thing of awe to them. They insisted on taking me to the Karl May house. (google it :) )

I lived there when it went up. It was a special thing to get a piece of it from a German friend when it came down. Even today, my friends in the eastern environs of Germany live with the ramifications of those years. Little things like being able to paint their house with color instead of drab graystone is a real taste of freedom for them. Slowly learning english is a treat. Their freedom to forget their Russian brings a giggle to their eyes.
  6. uhhhhhyup, will certainly put that on my bucket list.

  8. Calling Dr. Aar, calling Dr. Aar....Dr. Aar please pickup your page.
  9. Did you read the comments on the bottom of the page at that link? read the print when you take advantage of popup discount offers.
  10. I don't know how many there are now, but I was surprised when I looked at a Google satellite image of the property. There were not many cars there and the grounds looked very deserted (though still well maintained). I never saw the blue painted basketball court before, east of the Jordan bridge. When did that go in?
  11. Sorry Leafy, I have no recollection of the Twig Hopper or any of the motorcycles being at Gunnison. That doesn't mean it never made the trip, only that I do not recall it. I was probably over at the corrals or chinking logs....or fishing. Actually 79 seems early for the bike to be there, and your description of standing near a highway sounds more like Colo Spgs. There is no "highway" near Camp Gunnison, or anywhere near the wonderful town of Gunnison.
  12. well, they postponed games 3 and 4 here in Denver by one day due to the icebox weather today. Probably just as well. 25 degree temps or less are not condusive to a good game. It would have been the coldest game in MLB history and then there was the good possibility of icy rain which could cause injuries that would affect the outcome of the rest of the games for either team.
  13. edited to remove triple post....but while I am at it. Congrats to the Twins that was a good game by both teams.
  14. Speaking of freezing rain.... the Rockies did their job and got one of two at Philly even with the weird start time Hamels whined about. Now the series comes to Denver which has been having wonderful weather this week. A beautiful 73 on Wednesday. howsomeever........ The game on Saturday has a forecast high of 36 with snow, and Sunday is 48 with rain. It is unfortunate to have the game distracted by the weather, but then Game one in Philly had an awful wind moving the fly balls and dust blowing in the pitcher's and batter's faces. Oh well, both teams suffer the same conditions each game. I think both these teams match up well and it will be interesting to see the gameday adjustments by the managers for the weather. Since taking over in May with the Rockies at 18-28, Manager Jim Tracy has managed his talent well, game by game. The team wound up the regular season at 92-70. Tracy should certainly be strongly considered for NL manager of the year.
  15. I do remember one of his cycles showing up on Ebay a few years ago. There was a thread here about it at the time.
  16. Did I hear playoffs mentioned? Will the Rockies catch the Dodgers sleeping? Could Colorado possibly sweep in LA and win the NL West? Nah.... that would be the start of Rocktober all over again. Never happen...or.....could it????
  17. you mean you don't feel the love?

  19. my my, hope your day is wonderful. Happy Birthday, from HAP-e
  20. Penworks, thanks again for posting this. I too get tired of hearing people laud those times as so fun filled, ever forgetting the errors on which it was based. The sad thing to me is they continue in those errors, refusing to correct them in their own lives. Nothing has changed for them, nothing has imnproved, and they live forever in Egypt (De- Nile). Your words were (there) and are (here) a refreshing inspiration.
