  1. MissHAP and I met as WOWS in 74, married in 75, and we are still in love, thank you very much. While we credit a TWI program for helping us find each other, it was then, and is still, God who works in us to continue a lifelong love affair with each other. ~HAP
  2. I heard just this week that Kip and Roseanne (sp?) are in my vicinity. I may be able to get some info if you still need it. PT me and let me know if you haven't gotten an answer yet from someone else. I will need your name and an email to give to Kip if he wishes to be found he can then contact you. ~HAP
  3. I didn't notice any difference this week, is that because I am not focused? I am on dial up, so maybe slow is a relative term? but it has never taken long to get in, 5 to 8 seconds usually, and the door has always opened with my key for me. ~HAP
  4. Wow! not only CS&N, but kids too? Awesome! ~HAP

    BTK Killer

yep the story was huge all across Kansas as I drove through yesterday. Apparently his primary job was in code enforcement, and he made plenty of his neighbors ticked off by taking pictures of the back of their houses, supposedly looking for zoning code viloations. what REALLY got a neighbor mad was when he was seen measuring the height of her grass to see if he could ticket her for the grass being too tall. ~HAP

    Mortgage Rip offs

Many years ago, when far less adept at handling my finances, I had done a refi with Fairbanks Capital, who is the lead story on that ripoff site. The refi paid off a tax lien, but it came with a stiff price. The problems were: an uncapped ARM, tied to LIBOR, and Fairbanks' failure to credit payments in a timely manner. They charged me for late payments even though they received the payments before the late date, several times. I caught them with this by sending one payment certified mail, return receipt required. When they showed it late, I raised hell. The only solution I had after that was to make the payments by phone, which cost me $5.00 / month but never was charged a late fee when doing so. The interest rate on my home loan climbed to 13.5% before I finally realized what was happening, and refied with a more accomodating company. My current primary residence is with IndyMAC Bank, and I am very happy with them. I have a low fixed rate, and they even contacted ME on their own to offer a quick, lower, no cost fixed rate after my 2nd year. They have wonderful internet access to the particulars of my loan, and I am very happy with the fact that now I will have this place paid off before I say NOMORE to the workforce. My investment home has a loan with Chevy Chase Bank. I am not as happy with them, but the loan will be adequate until I resell the property. I am doing a fix and flip on it, and so the interest in the time frame I plan to keep it is not of great consequence to me. The problems I have with Chevy Chase Bank loan is largely due to the lack of internet information on the loan, and the inability to make online payments. They will do phone payments, but they charge for that. I just make the payments through a guaranteed ontime delivery Billpay system with my bank, so it is not a big deal. The other problem is simply the ARM features of the loan, also tied to LIBOR, which is a hard to track index IMHO, and NEVER seems to go down. As I said, since I will resell this property quickly, I wanted an ARM to keep the monthly cash outflow low. It works in this unusual case for me. Unfortunately, people who need some extra consideration in qualifying, often end up paying for it thru higher interest, and putting up with extra charges. This is because of the higher risks they are to the loan security, based on their credit scores. (it also has to do with the fact that their need makes them a target for the ripoff companies, since they are considered less wary in financial matters.) I would encourage people who plan to be in the hunt for a mortgage to first work on improving their credit score by reducing the proportion of their credit card balance in relation to their credit limit. Also, ALWAYS be sure to pay your bills on time. I do this though internet bill pay or automatic withdrawals, depending on the particular bill to pay, and how much control I want on when the creditor gets payment. Worse case scenario, at LEAST pay the minimum due on time, if that is all you can do at the time, and then follow up with an additional payment when you get your paycheck, to reduce the balances. ~HAP

    Forum Pruning

If it is the number of posts, could all the posts in an archived thread be pasted into one big post? Thus an entire thread becomes only one post. Gawd, who is gonna go through and delete the LOL posts? Shell can do it on her days off. Seems she gets abunch of those! teehee ~HAP
  10. I probably shouldn't stick my nose in here, cause I am CERTAINLY no expert. HOWEVER, what I did a few weeks agao was just attach the old drive to the new computer as a slave on the primary IDE. I copied (not moved) what I wanted from the old drive to the new one. Once I verified that the old data was intact on the new drive, then (and only then) did I remove the stuff from the old drive. Note, when attaching the old drive as a slave you need to change th jumper on the drive to a "slave position" from its original "master" position. there is often a diagram on the drive that shows this positioning. If not, you can find it on the website for the drive's manufacturer. just go to their site, and then the support section, and look search for the manual for your model drive. While there, the manual probably also gives directions on where on the IDE cable to connect the drive, and other step by step directions. when you first boot under this setup, you might need to go into the bios and make sure the bios is set to auto recognize the new (old) drive attached to your new machine. If you do not know how to go into the bios setup, ask again. I am sure someone can walk you thru that also. You computer screen when you first boot probably tells you the keystroke for you machine bios setup (like "Press Delete key to enter setup"
  11. MJ writes: What the article REALLY says is: "The teenagers’ families offered to pay Young’s medical bills, but she declined and sued, saying their apologies were not sincere and were not offered in person. It does not say they REFUSED, to speak face to face. Who is to say that even face to face the woman would have "felt" they were insincere? None of the other neighbors felt disrespected. Why this one? I think it wrong to say that they disrespected their neighbors. sigh, oh well MJ, enjoy your town. I hope the girls bring me cookies, and they can do it anytime they dang well please. It beats the heck outta flaming paper bags of dog poo. (For which I would not sue either) You do not seem to comprehend that the girls were leaving cookies for their friends and neighbors, including the daughter of the lady who sued them. bad judgement? I think their judgement is every bit as good as yours, but do as you will. Sue the little buggers next time they step foot on your walkway after 10pm. I sincerely hope the lady does not have another anxiety attack over the publicity she has gotten. Talk about bad judgment? The bad publicity she has gotten has cost her husband jobs, and smudged her (good?) name all over the www. $900 will never cover the cost of that. She won part of her the case, but did not win all she asked for, and at what cost? Was it worth it? was it good judgement? Looking at it from a business standpoint, she lost. And I still do not think she gave a rat's behind about the lesson she claims she wanted to teach the girls. You obviously believe her. Now, you want to buy some prime land I have in this swampy place I know? On the other hand, the girls through this event have raised thousands of dollars for charities. Perhaps the non-profits should send a thank you note to Mrs. Young for her bad judgement. ~HAP
  12. The Youngs, ( the plaintiffs in the case) have been involved with 9 civil suits since 1991, not counting this case. They have sued, and been sued. Two more cases involved restraining orders. They are no strangers to the court system. Well, I guess that is better than taking matters into your own hands, but it makes one wonder what their lives are like that they seem to have so many legal issues which they feel the need to go to the courts to settle. Most of the suits have been related to either neighbors, or clients and employees of the husband's construction business. ~HAP
  13. yep Vickles I thought of that too
  14. They refused? not what I understand, and heard. Although they did not apologize to her face, you make it sound now that they refused? How could they have done so face to face? Knock on her door? yeah, uh, wouldn't want to scare the lady AGAIN! She sued her own daughter's friends because she wanted MORE than just her doctor visit paid for. Plain and simple. She wasn't successful. It WAS about money. Everything else had already been offered, apology and doctor bills. Oh well MJ I can see the rest of us are at an impasse with you on this. I feel the girls DID face up to their responsibility. The other mom just wanted blood and money. Does anyone know if the girls were even within earshot when the lady called out asking who was there? I understood they knocked and ran. Oh well, there has been far too much time spent on this issue, and no headway being made. ~HAP
  15. The husband was not home, but I have not heard where he was. One of the girl's father has gotten a restraint order against the husband because he has called and threatened his life for telling the story. In all the interviews (6 or 7 I have heard) neither the fathers, nor the girls have said a bad word about the lady or the court. They have left it to us to draw our conclusions on why the lady sued. The families were not strangers. The lady who sued has a daughter who was friends with the girls. (I wonder if WAS may be a keyword.) I was mistaken about the doorbell, it was the back door on that house (lighted porch) and they knocked, then left. They had started about 9 pm to leave the cookies, and this was their last house. I dunno, my kids, in summer, at that age were not heading home at that time of night. I guess my cum laude graduate shoulda been home studying so he could be magna. Suing friends of your daughter was silly, especially since they had apologized already, and had offered to pay the $900 doctor bill. The lady wanted money for pain and suffering too, and for supposed dents in a storm door, which the police could not see was damaged at all. ~HAP
  16. Omigod- I cannot believe someone is attacking these girls here in the cafe! Vickles, I am in Colorado, no further "hidden" facts have been forthcoming. 10:30 in July, in Colorado is NOT late for kids this age. It is barely dark. We often just finished dinner at that time. Curfew here in the city is a more realistic, midnight, but there is none where these girls live. Curfew is never enforced unless you are caught doing something illegal. (Leaving cookies for a neighbor is not illegal., but maybe now we can pass a law to that effect so MJ can be sure to have them arrested.) The girls did not reply to the lady because they were no longer there. The put the cookies on the porch, rang the bell, and left. They wanted to do an anonymous good deed. Trespassing? it is not like they were scurrying around in the back yard. it was an open front porch. I have heard both the girls, and one of their fathers on several radio stations, they seem all that the story said about them. they intend to continue doing nice things for people without reward. But they will now do things a little more openly. Like reading to the elderly and just general good deeds. Random acts of kindness. Abi- By this time, if there was more to the story than was written, SOMEONE from Durango would have ratted them out. The lady refused their apology since it was not delivered in person. Come ON!. How could they do it in person, walk up to her door and ring the bell again? The note with the cookies said (paraphrased) "Someone is thinking of you and your family, and wish you a good night." How evil and self serving can these girls be? Dang, I am sickened that people get so suspicious about everything teens do these days. Most of them are great people. If you expect the worst from your kids, you are likely to get it. Likewise, if you expect the best...... MJ said the girls are lucky they are not dead. This was not some innercity crack house neighborhood. We are talking rural here, the girls were not in any great danger. Oh well. I guess our life out here just needs to catch up with the east urban jungle. ~HAP
  17. Jardinero- I think the rigidity of the corps does not mesh well with the freedom attitude of rodeo cowboys. Drinking koolaid doesn't go well with coffee on the run to get to your next event. The dishonesty before God, and dishonesty with the Word, and the infidelity of its leadership were insulting to us all. Any of you- I will be happy to pass on your greetings to them, if you want to send them to a PT through me. It would be great to hear how they affected your lives. My experiences with them date from before Robin took the class. As I recall, Groucho was her first twig leader. Funny how God finds the strangest people -Groucho and I- to start a great work. Robin was pregnant with their first daughter at the time. Lingo- We may have met, but I only helped out at one or two of TWI rodeo things, one in Arvada, when the visiting TWI dignitaries came to town. I think it may have been their first introduction to bullriding. I did go to a rodeo school where Bob taught bullriding. It was at Bruce Ford's (a bareback champ) place in Kersey, and had nothing to do with TWI other than the fact that Bob was in my twig and I wanted to spend time with the man. I did not rodeo, but tried riding a few bulls, since I knew Bob would cover my backside. He always did. It was the first that I had ever purposefully put myself in a dangerous situation. It was quite a release from fears of any kind. I had several of the rodeo guys in my twig. One other went into the corpse, Pat ---. (dang, I can't remember last name at this instant) He was a fine artist, and I have one of his bronzes. He was another great person. Their oldest daughter did barrel racing and trick riding internationally, is now married to a rancher, she also owns a business in their home town. The younger daughter is quite a cook, according to my son, and she is pursuing chef's school as money allows. (donations anyone? LOL) You all may not know they also have a son (after leaving TWI) he is still in school. Last I heard he prefers football, which is what Bob wanted to do, but Bob's mother wouldn't allow it because it was too dangerous. ~HAP
  18. Lingo- Pffft, yeah right, Craig just sent it back uh huh RIGHT! Honestly, I can't recall, offhand the circumstances, so I better not say more. I was at Bob's house right after it came back to him, but it was a long time ago. It was not a matter of him not having the buckle, it was a matter of who it was that DID have it as I seem to recall. It was an honor from men, which was nice, but it was honor from God that was more rewarding in their lives. Yes, my wife and I have maintained contact with them, and with the three kids. But not as much as we would all like now that they are a little further away. We have considered them our dearest friends for well over 25 years. They are all doing well. ~HAP
  19. The girls' story has been the talk around Denver, and they have received countless support from the public and appearances on numerous radio programs. Funds were raised almost instantly to cover the lawsuit costs, and the excess will be given to the "Never Forgotten" fund, set up to remember the Columbine highschool massacre. Yes, the girls have been encouraged. ~HAP
  20. Yes, the buckle was returned finally. After leaving RC, it grated on Bob's mind that Craig had it. As I recall, it was quite some time afterward (over a year) that it finally came in the mail, and it was a thrill to see it reunited with its winner. Side note of information: Bob won the the NFR bullfighting buckle BEFORE being involved with TWI, in case anyone was confused. PFAL had NOTHING to do with it. Bob and Robin and their family are STILL the real deal, in every way. I love them all. While some were probably injured, I have to say I was healed at a CG rodeo. Long before TWI I had been shot, by a friend, accidentally in the foot. One toe healed in an odd shape that constantly became a sore when I did a lot of walking. It was a problem for 8 years. While standing next to Robin while she was on her barrel horse getting ready for the Grand Entry of the rodeo, someone opened a nearby gate. The horse, trained to jolt at the opening of the gate, started, and Robin pulled him back, causing him to rear up. When he came down, he landed on my foot. You guessed it, it broke that one toe. I have never had a problem with a sore foot again. ~HAP

    ILLINOIS

ah Matilda- I remember the Mooncotches, pleasantly fine folks. You are right, Dawn did write some articles for the Way Mag. That first Illinois meeting was a great event. I have a program and napkin from it somewhere, and I still have a christmas tree candle Mrs. W gave me for coordinating the event. I think buried in my basement I have a reel to reel tape of most of the teachings and of the music. John Wynn recorded it all for us. Bo Reahard came to town two days beforehand and let us know that we needed to clean up the Way Home SERIOUSLY before hosting VPW there for a statewide TC meeting the first night. He worked side by side with us all night long doing it. I was impressed. Some other early Illinois names for your recollectings: Northern- (Waukegan, Antioch etc.) John Desmond (looked like Jesus with lighter hair). Joan Krajecki she was the reason I liked to go see the Waukegan saints. (she later married Frank Pavlica- last I heard they were in the mid Atlantic area) Mr. B- (Orbin Banks?) I think he was a teacher. had a winning smile and real love for people. Peoria area- (Howie)- uh, oh, that is me Dave Pettit- pawned his guitar to pay for PFAL. also mom, Pat, sis Pam, and brother Jeff Becky Belcher- the sweetest woman IL ever produced. (of course, she married Donnie Fugit) I sure wish she would check in here. Gary Belcher Becky's brother, played a good guitar Ray Brasga- lived in Japan for several years, now is in CA as i recall from an email I got from him. Carolyn Young- wise a peaceful lady also her sister Megan Young Dallas and Rosemary Sumpter- Dallas kept hiring us goofy young kids. We kenneled VP's dog, Tick (sp), at their place, and almost lost him. Now THAT was scarey. We found him an hour before Don W. came to pick him up. Nancy Wesselhoft- vivacious and fun Debbie Hermann- Nancy's sidekick Brad Hinch- was in Way Builders- hmm, in Washington State now? Gawd we had a fun time in those years! ~HAP
  22. geesh, 9 pages into this thing and I haven't chimed in, embarassing. I grew up in the military, went to 9 schools in 7 states/foreign countries. Never understood the hoopla over moving in TWI. (my mother went to 12 different schools and would hear none of my whining about it- she also grew up in the army, and married into it) I once lived in a house my great-grandfather built. (The Davis house- Fort Lee, VA) We didn't know about it until my grandfather came to visit us there and did some research. I was in Anchorage Alaska when the largest earthquake to hit North America struck. It was 9.2 magnitude. I thought we had been attacked by the Soviet Union because all I knew in that Cold War era at the time was some part of Alaska was only 20 miles from some part of Russia. I remember the time as 5:37 pm, March 27, 1964 (In the Richter scale in use at the time it was 8.6 magnitude- I guess they revised the scales since then) Fourty years ago I stole a sign that said "Warning- Shoplifters will be prosecuted". I still have it. My first love interest never married. I found her last year through classmates.com I have been married to my wife (would she be MsHAP?) for 29 years, have lived with her for 30 (we met as WOWs). She is a special lady, certainly more special than I am. MY screename, HAPe4me uses my initials. Mom always thought HAP would be a good nickname for me, but it never took, until she introduced me to computers and I needed to come up with a name. (My mom was into puters loooong before me- she got a masters in computer science when she was 68) anyway, you can call me HAP, but I kinda cringe at HAPe cuz I don't know how you are pronouncing it. I guess I will have to owe ya 3 more Shellon, that is only 7, but it is tired time now. ~HAP
  23. Reef- thanks, ifn you learn more info, let me know please. ~HAP
  24. David, chatty has it wrong, she is the one being bratty, but we put her back in the tub. She thought she could use her wireless keyboard in there and THAT is what broke the forums. ~HAP
  25. prehensile= 1 : adapted for seizing or grasping especially by wrapping around dang, krys, that sounds sexy! ~HAP
