I fail to see the thrill in "altered states" of mind, whether from alcohol or from herbal concoctions. I am quite happy with my wit, artistic perceptions, and general well being, without the need to create something that is temporary by drinking, smoking or otherwise ingesting more garbage into my body than that which is all too present in our everyday meals and environment. Its just my opinion, but aside from the "claimed" pain relief for those who are unable to find such relief fromother sources, I do not see any benefits especially for otherwise well adjusted adults. ~HAP

hmm CSI and LaO are not definitive legal opinion. Ask Law and various other sites disagree with most the posters here regarding the legality. A google search found no Federal Law cited that prohibits such action. Perhaps your state is different from most, but here in CO, police can question a minor without parents present, and they often do. Had 9it been a case of assault on a person, do you think the police should wait for parents to come before asking a kid on the corner? Plice questioning happens in schools all the time also. In the case you described, the police were simply gathering information, not trying to pin the crime on your sopn as a suspect. Had that been the case, he would have been read his Miranda and allowed to have a lawyer as well as a parent. IMO, (and JUST my opinion) the information your son had would not be admissable in court (as hearsay), but could have been useful to the police to follow up on who did do it. While the threat was a little over the top, if your son DID know who did it (saw it), I would think he could be charged with withholding evidence. since all he knew was what he had hearsay, no charges could be filed, or at least not tried. Meanwhile, some insurance company is out some money, and a storeowner is out his deductible for repairs to the window which was broken by some cowardly juveniles. Why cover for them? Sad that we would allow crimes to happen because we fear being the rat. ~HAP Edited to link this New Hampshire Law site: http://www.nhbar.org/for-the-public/juvenile-law.asp

We bought a set of heavy multi layered cookware from Barbara Standage back 30 years ago. I think it was offered by "Homemakers Guild" or something like that. I don't know who actually made the set for them. It has stood the test of time quite well. I think it has a copper layer between the stainless layers. Although for my grilled cheese and for my eggs, I prefer good heavy non-stick stuff. ~HAP

for what it is worth, (you decide), www.snopes2.com says the "available" origin is false. They say, it did start in prison, the result of ill fitting prison garb and no belts, and then of course was picked up as a thing by various hiphop "artists", but was not a sign of being unattaced and available for homosexual activity. http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/sagging.asp

I think Tony busts Paris out of jail and then she sends him to the fishes and raises Anna Nicole from the dead and they take over together. Who are the sopranos anyway. do they sing in a major choir?

Sudo- Well, that forum never was my interest here, but it remains the focus, as it should be of what the cafe is about. fortunately, the cafe continues to draw many new folks to its wonderful little bistro, and I am glad, (as I know you are) that "About the Way" is here. I was not apologizing for not going much to that forum, but for not seeing this topic was addressed more thoroughly already byyour thread. Actually Sudo, I have thought well of your recent forays into the depths of that darkness known as Politacks. The place is okay as long as one does not have high expectations of making a difference in the world as we know it, by posting there. This oldtimer has come to realize that discussing politics with ex-culters is to be taken as entertainment, not a step toward global change. At least in "About", there is the chance of makng a difference in one or more people's lives. ~HAP

I want a top view of both

sorry Sudo, you had it in About the Way, I rarely go there and did not see it. my 'pologies!

At the top of the Politics forum this evening was a google ad for: http://www.eternallyblessed.com/home.html I don't know who runs the place, but it is located in Nashville, TN. They have for sale new copies of books by Victor and several others. run out and get your copies now! (ducking). Oops, now it is on the top of THIS page. they move around fast ~HAP

I don't get it, why cast a bomb like Pipe's CHEAP SHOT at Paw if you are not gonna stick around to read, verify, or hear disputing comments. Ya know, 98% of us, including me, would never have even known she, her husband, or friends, were somehow caught up iin this if SHE had not posted it. Their names were never mentioned until Pipe's posts, which she saw fit to put in two different places. In contrast, Freeatlast was quite upright in not identifying the issue that affected her directly. She only wanted to say hi and goodbye to those she has found a fondness for here. It was a very mature and healthy management of the conflict she endured. The Cafe's primary purpose is to provide an access point of information to people who have been affected by TWI, and at that it does quite well. Perhaps it would do us all well to realize it is not the responsibility of the moderators to heal personal conflicts, soothe hurt feelings, repair broken relationships between posters or listen to broken love affairs. It is beyond me why anyone would submit to Paw or the moderators any of this information. The Cafe's purpose is not EVEN to provide a social gathering place for those of us who enjoy the patter in chat, the battles of politaks, the laughs in silly or the uplifting of the prayer forum.....etc. If we find these things here anyway, great! For myself, I enjoy the socializing I find amongst people with a shared although distant, past. I realize however, this is not the main purpose of this site, and therefore is not a responsibility of the moderators to provide. If a conflict arises betwixt me and another in those venues, why would I bring the mods into it? I certainly would not be so presumptuous as to personally attack them if they chose to get involved anyway. ~HAP

well, when I first heard it, it was referring to her being a confused person of less than stellar mental ability. (45 days being 45 hours). In light of the post previous to mine which I did not see at first, she may not be so dumb afterall.

Paris was heard to say 45 days? that is not so bad, that is less then 4 days

I'll serve your coffee HOT Frisco. I have to say I understood your post quite well, and did NOT understand the stones cast your way, so unless there is more to your history that others know and I do not, I am pleased to welcoime you, and buy you a cheese danish. You will find me at the back table observing the events. ~HAP

Actually, you see that the person posted, but their actual post does not show. You have the option on each of their posts to "view this post" or "un-ignore this poster". On occasion I will choose "view this post" so that I can understand the flow of the other poster's remarks. This works real well since it leaves the poster "ignored" but lets you read an isolated post when you want to. It certainly speeds up reading the forums if you feel a particular poster rarely adds anything to a thread that you consider enlightening. You can also ignore posters, (and block their PMS) from "my controls". Managing ignores is found on the left of the page under "Options. this way you do not need to go to THEIR profile. Hope this helps. ~HAP

I am not an enginerr, hmm I even spelled it wrong, engineer, but I know that the formula is much more complicated than just "how many inches". No two snows contain the same amount of water, and therefore they do not have the same weight. I would guess the 1ft estimate above is reasonable for average snows, but it is meaningless when determining a building's design load requirements. Average snow is not what makes a building collapse. 100 year snows might. Design load requirements are determined by individual building departments in cities and counties, according to formulas that take into account many factors including temperature, altitude, water content of local snows, repetitive snow and rain histories, historical data and more. AGAIN, contact the building officials in the location you propose to build the thing. I am sure the people whoprovide the building are quite aware of how to do this, as they will probably be required to provide "wet stamped" engineering documents to the building inspectors to prove it meets local codes. This takes the building department off the hook, and puts the onus on the man or woman who engineered it and stamped the documents should there be a failure. In other words, don't fret over it until you know where you will build, and then make the supplier do the needed modifications. Probably these are not a major cost issue, honestly.

I thought these were new prefab buildings, not moving into and remodeling an old barn. Perhaps I am wrong however. The prices I saw quoted do not include foundation, or ceiling material -it says provided by contractor. (the walls are covered with what they call "blueboard". I assume no floor coverings, base or casing either. add appliances. anyway, snow load is the design weight load that a building roof system is designed to take. Depending on your location, codes may be higher than that. check with the building department before ordering. Snow load: A measurement of the weight of the heaviest snow load likely to occur in a two-month period in a certain region. In localized areas of some snow-belt regions, snow loads of 150 pounds per square foot are not uncommon. That wind design which rhino quoted would not pass here in CO, but again, each building department sets their own, depending on their climate situations.
-
maybe they are going to build an ark inside of it. Yikes, that price is just for the shell? NO finish work on the inside? We are underpaid Geo.
-
What do ya think GeoAar? Should you and I form a partnership and get these folks out of their building contractor miseries? I know many people speak of having trouble with their contractors keeping to a schedule, doing the work in a professional manner etc. etc., but in my 30 some years of doing this, it has never been an issue on my projects. Those people I have met who have had problems, often have taken the near lowest bids, or hired the man/woman who says they can start at the earliest date. There is a reason this person is available so quickly..... they often do not have the reputation for doing quality work, and so they do not have much going for them. They often undercut reputable skilled companies in order to get work and put food on the table. I generally operate on at least a 6 week ahead schedule, and I aim for 8. I am worth the wait, believe me. I know what I am doing, and your project will go smoother. I use that time to arrange my subcontractors, order materials, confirm the plans, get the permits etc., while I am finishing someone else's project ON TIME. The key to an enjoyable construction project is planning ahead. When a client makes changes, it often translates into delays. I use the time before a project start date to help the client work through most possible changes before we actually get started. When hiring a contractor for any remodel project, you should ask to see their work, and TALK to previous clients. At least 80% of my clients at the end of a job, offer on their own to be a reference. I do always confirm their willingness to "be bothered" prior to giving out their phone number however, so they are not inconvenienced during a family event or something. I recently finished a major high end bathroom and master bedroom remodel. I emailed with the client each morning or the night before, and kept them informed of the plans for the day. The lady had such fun sharing these emails with her coworkers, and bragging about HER contractor actually communicated with her! At the end of the project, she mentioned she was sad to see me go, as she had not even gotten tired of me yet, or of the project, even though they had lived in their basement throught the construction. In addition to my final bill, which was exactly what I had quoted her, she also gave my wife and I a quite adequate gift certificate to her favorite fancy restaurant. I will invite her and her husband to join us that night. Some homeowners try to save money by doing some of the work or providing some of the materials themself. "My brother is an electrician....we will do that part ourselves" type stuff. I have no problem if they want to do this, but it can cause delays. When that happens, often it means the contractor has to pull away from the job until someone for whom he/she is not responsible does their own stuff. If I had to pull off a job, I will NOT sit around waiting at my home until you get out of my way. I would go start another job, AND FINISH IT, before returning. If I can get my subs back into your home before I come back, I will try and do that, but once I start another job, you better believe they will be my new priority. Over the years, I have developed quite a network of tradespeople who I can count on to do the job right, and in a timely manner. Most of them I have used for over 15 years. This helps my projects flow seamlessly from one phase to another, and since my subs have worked with the others many times before, and will again in the future, we all try and "not make things difficult" on the others. These are just SOME ideas to consider when hiring a contractor. As my byline says, it is worth what you paid for it. I take great pride in my work, and after all this time, there is no project I have ever done that I would hesitate to go back and enjoy conversation with the client again, whether it was sticking in a vanity for them or building their dream home. ~HAP

yes I was kidding. They should make her serve the rest of her probation after jail, living (and paying) in a Super 8 Motel! I hear the jail she will be in has been renamed to the Ironbar Hilton. LOL

who is Paris Hilton? does she post here? what is her login name?

that was my understanding too Rhino, but I have not looked into it tonight. Mine are electronic, and do not get anywhere near as warm as the old rheostat ones with the round knobs we used to see. But then Onegod told us to trust him, and I know him, so until I find info to the contrary I will do so, LOL.
