When I find someone's assertion to be less than truthful or less than correct, I might say...... "hmmm that is an interesting way to view this"

I dunno, no disrespect to Mother T, but she did not touch my life or educate me in matters that I recall like Lady Di did. In addition to her speaking on eating disorders, perhaps her greatest contributions were in raising awareness of the problems with forgotten land mines. ~HAP

That IS how inmates in some institutions are able to call, if they do not want to use pay phones and drop what little cash they are allowed into it. You set up a prepaid account with the service that handles the calls and they call using a passcode. I am NOT saying this is the case for the call you got, it could ALSO be a scam. good luck. If it WAS an inmate, you will hear from them eventually, or perhaps it was a wrong number. ~HAP

if you are uncertain, you might be pulling up on the reins to "hold on"

I only act old Abi dear. so that must have planted the grey stuff in your mind's eye. Tall is a relative term, as I am taller than you and a whole lot shorter than dmiller. But I have never been called tall however. My hair is primarily brown with graying areas, and as for stubble, I will confess that there are days I do not bother to shave. I am not sure what the idea of "lanky" brings to your mind, but I am not pudgy and I am not skinny, I am just about right for my not so high height. Here is myself and my ever lovely trophy wife at the Tivoli Fountain in Rome. oops, I guess I should have looked at the rest of the thread before I posted. David snuck one in already.

According to Snopes, http://www.snopes.com/language/document/liferule.asp this is wrongly, but commonly, attributed to Bill Gates, the actual author was Charles J. Sykes. and there are 3 more of his rules shown on the Snopes site. some are good, some demonstrate a bit too much staid adult mentalityfor my liking. ~HAP

Ummm Rottie I think perhaps you are thinking of donkeys, mules often are every bit as tall or even taller than their horse mother. But you needn't be afraid of either one.
-
first time I went riding, about 25 years ago my rodeo clown friend was one horse short for my family. He told me his mule would be better for me anyway, since I had never ridden. He instructed me to just squeeze my knees together when I wanted to move. there was only one problem. ........ Squeezing the knees was the signal for this mule to move allright, but the motion was all up and down not forward. He had trained it to buck. Bob got a great laugh out of me. We recalled that incident this spring and this time we both laughed. ~HAP

I could come out as someone who hates people who come out against other people's ideas, threads, religious views, lives, diet, weight, race, political affiliations and ..............so forth. I just don't get this stuff sometimes. ~HAP

I'd second or third the Subaru Legacy Outback idea. If what you want is the ability to stay on the road, get through the snow or ice, it is great. I will be trading my 97 in on a newer one this winter. The clearance over snow is almost the same as the Jeep unless you have a lift kit on the jeep and/or oversize tires. As for Jeep Sport, one word of advice, be wary of the tranny, especially with that many miles. It is possible it has been redone, but check it out. they are notorious for having weak tranny's around here. (this from the father of an off road rock crawling nut.) Perhaps a Toyota 4-runner instead? more reliable. Whatever, you get tires tires tires are a number one improvement. I like my goodyear Assurance tires on the Suby, or Fortera on my truck.

Step up???? hardly. no wonder HomeDepot has fallen off the charts in respectability around these parts, (and it did not have far to go before hiring him)

Max's place is for sale at the asking price of $8 million.: NEW YORK, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ — Max Yasgur’s homestead (including his residence, 5,000 sq ft. farmhouse, 7,000 sq. ft. calving barn, and over 103 acres) is now for sale. Yasgur was the dairy farmer who became a cultural icon when he allowed 40 acres of his Bethel farm to be used in August 1969 for the gathering now known as “The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival.” More at: http://www.consumermortgagereports.com/woo...-for-8-million/

I will trade you for my unopened English Leather bottle, a gag wedding gift in 1975.

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this . There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP." It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has a real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP ! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn' t rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP , so........... Time to shut UP .....! Oh...one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U-P

I am with the other guys who posted. I like NOT noticing that my wife (or anyone else) is wearing any perfume. Same goes for my opinion of men's cologne.

maybe we can work on the extinction of that humanoid critter called "Republican"! Alright, I was just kidding, guys ~HAP

no argument from me, that is why I also said in the same post, IIRC, something to the effect of "and the politicians need to be honest and do the right thing by us taxpayers". although I think for the most part, the war is being funded on the back of a deficit, not from the taxes collected during the course of the war. Is that correct? So funding rebuilds of infrastructure is hard on the "pay-go" system.

Here ya go Dot: The rest of the article is here: http://usa.tigblog.org/category/108 Here is another reference to the subject, (you will find it right before the announcement of an alien-human hybrid/fallen angel program, and several articles before the one on the haunted telephone): http://www.richardsyrett.com/pastshow.htm

I agree, this is just one bridge, and hardly a major collapse (except of course to those who were trapped, or those who used that route daily). I believe many road projects are jointly funded with taxes at both the federal and the state level. However I do think it is indicative of a systemic problem where so many in our country are not willing to fund government to adequate levels, state or federal. We often hear the chants of 'big government is the problem". Somehow we must strike up a balance and find a way to make improvements to our bridges, dams, comminity buildings etc. this would mean we as voters must be willing to pay. It also means that our politicians in statehouses and in congress and in the white house must be honest and do what is right for America. We have a long way to go on both those areas. As someone already alluded in this thread, maintaining bridges built 40 or 50 or 80 years ago is one thing. but if those bridges were designed for the traffic loads of yesteryear, then maintaining them is possibly not the answer. We have more cars, bigger cars and supertrucks now. Bridges need not only maintenance but upgrades or replacement. Another thing that affects structural components is our environment. Acid rain takes its toll. there is a lot to resolving the issue of failing infrastructure. ~HAP

You could order a vanity through an independant building supply from Kraftmaid or Medallion or any other cabinet manufacturer. You could ALSO do the same from one of those gawd awful "box stores". By ordering it, you can select wood, stain, doorstyle etc. I do it all the time. Myself, I hate pedastal sinks primarily for their lack of space below, but I never argue with a customer, and people seem to like the fool things. You can remove a trap with a pedastal sink without needing to remove the sink, and that is normaly allyou need to access for general maintenance. ~HAP

haha Dot, It took me awhile to figure out why you were making it so clear that Vick's case was not racial. Bumpy said "in a black suit", he did not make reference to his race. me thinks you might have misread him? My only surprise is that only 1/2 of Atlanta wants the max for him. I think the percentage is even higher here in CO. ~HAP
