As an army brat I didn't have a "home" location, so when we had finished our WOW year in 75 I married and moved to her home state. does that count? shoot, we have been in the same house now which I built in 84 how much more home can one be? Socks- good story. From my experience growing up, uprooting kids is not so much a big deal as it is made up to be. What they lose in lifelong relations is made up for by the opportunity to meet new people, live new experiences and learn new ideas. Glad you made the move. ~HAP

well Ron, we DO have the faithful and reliable word of our elected officials!

Likeaneagle's email must be slow. even that snopes article was from a year ago. A little historical perspective for those that may think this national motto has been around forever: From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_We_Trust Perhaps the source of the concern over this latest coin was: the phrase itself as the national motto? Here ya go: Its interesting to me that the topic seems to get more focus during periods of war and its aftermaths. Don't people care so much about God when we are NOT involved in a national conflict? ~HAP

thanks folks. good to hear from all 6 of you. I actually enjoy being a nut, someone's got to do it. Never mind that to some here that might be called "tree-son". Not to worry, I am confident that there are more nuts (of every kind) here at the cafe than Paw deserves. Enjoy your Easter with your families, now that my day is past. HAPe4U too!

Inconclusive is something I would agree with, but certainly not "cancelled" as was implied with the title. Many variables come into play including El Ninas and Ninos and for that matter shifting currents among many other things. The short of my final post on this thread is that a piece of data (or in this case a class of data- "underwater temps") provides only one part of the picture. Anecdotal data ("we sure had a cold/warm winter/spring/summer fall") are meaningless to the topic of GW also. Perhaps some are more concerned than others with what legacy we leave our children and future generations to come. Maybe not. All I know is there is no reason for this topic (or most any other topic) to rile anyone like it has. I quit it.

The temps Willis measured are 3000 feet down according to the article, not surface temps.
-
yet there is a big difference in the dynamics of how DEEP ocean temps (discussed by your article) and surface temps are affected by global warming. They are two totally different measurements and two distinctly different animals. Hey, I ain't even considering changing YOUR thinking on this, you have been clear. However for others that cared to hear another perspective, I jumped in to mention that the article did NOT say what you implied it did. But of course you are the judge and jury at the cafe about who is a goofball or on a high horse. Personally I think your horse is taller than mine but YVMV. Further, it was NOT the NPR writer who made up those possible other explanations, but the scientists who were interviewed. One was Willis, who actually was doing the study, and the other was Trenberth of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Both in the end paragraph were described as agreeing on this: The +.58 degree combined land and ocean surface temp for December to February was from:http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2008/2...13_coolest.html Scroll down to the Global section:

yet combined temps were still .58 degree F warmer than the 20th century mean temps. However, it was interesting that you posted only those parts of your article that support your belief. You left out this: are you guys gonna breathe a sigh of relief everytime you get a week of cold weather?and this: So the REAL gist of the story is that this study does not have many or any answers, only more questions, contrary to what you imply by the title to the thread. Nice try, but not much of an article to argue your point. I would CERTAINLY never direct the following quote towards YOU Rhino, but I did get a laugh out of what one poster on another board replied to someone else who tried to palm this article off as some kind of proof against global climate change theory:

I own a square foot of the Iditarod trail. well the deed says I do anyway, I don't know its legal standing as I have not improved the place in the 40 years I have owned it. Probably taken over by eminent domain or something by now.

for States whose State income tax rate is calculated as a percentage of the Federal income tax a person pays, this Federal stimulus packeage hurts. For Colorado, it will mean approximately $74 million less in income tax revenues, offset by only about $24 million in sales tax revenues, based on the anticipated percentage of those who will actually go out an purchase something instead of just paying down debts. Most likely here that will mean less for higher education and capital construction projects. Its bad enough that the Federal government will fund this thing with more debt, but they are also gonna hamstring a number of states. According to my state senator, 10% f our tax dollars goes to pay interest on this monstrous debt, now at around $9.1 trillion dollars, roughly double what it was 7 years ago. Yikes. ~HAP

that phrase appears in the Social Security Act (section 210). It may also appear in Title 26 for all I know. HOWEVER it appears thusly: State (h) The term “State” includes the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa. It would be a stretch to argue that the term "State" does not ALSO include the 50 states of the United States, especially since the NEXT line says: United States (i) The term “United States” when used in a geographical sense means the States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa. In other words, when the tax code says "States" it means the 50 states AND those other places, not just the other places. By the way, there are very large penalties if the IRS determines that you have participated in any of the various scams that are offered each year of places to hide your money that make it tax free. Hey, I am all in favor of learning all you can to LEGALLY take advantage of all the deductions you can qualify for, but it is just plain insane to argue against the legality of the income tax. You ain't gonna win. I can think of at least one poster here who has been the victim of such ill-advised schemes, once promoted by various leadership in TWI

Poll for why you were marked and avoided
HAPe4me replied to E. W. Bullinger's topic in About The Way
there is no option for mine. I marked and avoided THEM, not the other way around. -
you can't ask for a review on false starts or offsides etc. can you? However, the number of men on the field at the snap is one of the infractions that are specifically listed as subject to review. I have never seen it requested until that game, but that is beside the point.
