  1. Thanks dmiller. Now I know, didn't before. bliss, hope that adds to the discussion. I PM'd you back, so how's it go - "check your PM's" :) If we're talking about the Horny One, Satan, still - I think a lot of the Judeo/ Christian image and ideas might have gotten picked up from other religions, like the Egyptian mythologies. There was a thread a ways back, can't remember when, I commented on the ancient god "Set" and another poster had a bunch of stuff tht hit on a lot of different influences. My memory's sputtering today, sorry. Not to say that what's in the bible isn't true, but that the whole image and impression that's popular in some Christian circles of Satan may just be a mixed bag of "gods", different religions way of interpreting. The Egyptian religion had a god named "Set" who represented rebellion and chaos. He was the "evil" one,. Set is often called "the Prince of Darkness", and some "pagan" thought today sees Set as the god, real or not, that represents a higher pursuit of thought and achievement for humanity. Set sounds a lot like Satan in some ways, and the images of Set look like popular images of "devils" that are used today. That chaos and rebellion against gods of light is like Satan's rebellion against God. People today that invoke that god's influence seem to see it as a higher road to personal enlightenment, where the individual's personal interests are given the highest priority. Which - again - from a certain view would seem to the way to go. If you want to truly disengage from all accepted moral and ethical influences and reinvent the world to your own making, a Setian energized religion would suit you well. It's a little scarey though, even without the horns and weird heads. People that invoke those kinds of gods and pursue that train of thought are better left alone and to their own devices, IMO. The bible's big generic message is IMO "good will win out over bad". And good is clearly choosing God, the creator, the Father of Jesus Christ, and doing our best to emulate that Son, Jesus Christ. He laid clear the way, truth and the light of how to conduct our lives. With Jesus, the physical activities of Satan were controllable and dealt with. In Jesus's world, Satan went about his business and Jesus His. In the end what was achieved wasn't what Satan probably thought at that time.

Oh yeah. A la. That's right. Guitars. Johnny Lingo! THIS LINK might give some pricing - scroll down - adjust for conditon...? The Reference page, has a link at the bottom, HTML format, came right up, where you can scroll to the 1528. The year will have a lot to do with it - I read that these aren't made anymore, which could be a factor - ebay had one selling for under 300 bucks though, so ebay would be a good place to check the going price. That could be due to several causes - - height of the bridge saddle on the body - where the string rests, should be lowered. That itself isn't hard. Online it looked in the pics like the saddle is a one piece deal - can you tell if it is? Like one piece of white plastic or composite? - height of the headstock saddle, at the end of the neck. That can be lowered too if needed, but has to be done carefully, a little goes a long way on that one. - strings - if they're heavy gauge, "stiff" strings, they're pulling more on the neck, bowing it and making the playing action higher off the neck. - the neck itself. This is really where you have to start - hold the body to your body and the neck away from you and look down the side edge of the neck straight away from you. Simple test - do you see big bow, where the neck in the middle of the fret area droops down? That's a bad sign - worse is if the bow on both sides don't match, which means there's also a warp in the neck. That's probably not fixable - but might be. You'd have to get it looked at by someone who knows and has experience with Ovations. If it's fairly straight but the strings are just high it's probably just needing the saddles taken down. It should have a little bow in it, so a little is fine for most guitars. Then just lay it down and press the low E string down on the neck at the 12 th fret and see how much space there is between the string and the frets at about the 6-7th fret - is there a lot? If there's a big bow in the neck you'll see it right off. Adjusting a neck involves turning a metal rod that's inside the neck, using a small wrench that usually comes with the guitar. Turning that rod moves it against the inside, pushing against it or releasing pressure, and that changes the bow, and how flat the neck is from 1st to last fret. It can be tricky on an older guitar, when you don't know what's happened to it. Someone might have gotten on it and twisted it this way and that, and you have to know the kind of bar that's inside and how it's turning, and "feel" your way through it. OR - just put on a new set of strings, light gauge, like a set that has an ".010" for the first string. Just get an acoustic set, light gauge and put them on and see what the neck does. It might settle down a bit with new strings. The saddle adjustments aren't that hard to do. Might be a good deal, if the action is fixable. Ovations are nice sounding guitars!

Class delightful! I like it. Thanks. Well... Buchanan - an interview done with Ted Green by Jim Carlton contains the following quotes about Roy Buchanan: JC: Roy Buchanan was great as well. TG: I love Roy’s playing. Did you ever hear him with Bobby Gregg and Friends, in the early Sixties? They had a fairly popular hit, and Guitar Player even interviewed Roy in the very early Seventies, long before they put him on the cover. And in the interview, he mentions the cut, which is called “The Jam.” He said, “The Jam” in ‘62, but because of his thick Southern accent they printed, “The Jail Men” in ’62.” JC: Oh, that’s funny. TG: Yeah, he was playing a Tele and getting the best sound that I had heard to that date, and maybe still, for that kind of sound, I don’t know how he did it. JC: Ever see that video tape of him playing “Misty,” where he was being produced by Mundell Lowe? I think I saw it on NET. TG: Yeah, that’s a fairly famous piece of tape from the early Seventies. He was getting a great jazz sound on that Tele too, but I’ll bet I haven’t seen that in 30 years. Did you know that the Stones asked him to join their band? JC: Yeah, I remember hearing that. TG: He and Danny (Gatton) were cut from the same cloth in many ways. JC: They were cross-town friendly rivals back in D.C. TG: When Roy was on break, he’d call a bartender friend at the club where Danny was playing and ask him to leave the phone off the hook so he could listen to his solos. But they both influenced each other. There’s no doubt about it. Interesting...Ted Green was a force of nature when it came to working music, voicings on the guitar, harmony theory and sounds. He played a Telecaster himself a great deal of the time. Roy played a lot of stuff that never got on his earlier recordings, and shows up on videos like those on Youtube. While many musicians craft a style and do it well applying it to various styles of music, Buchanan had his own style and played others as eloquently.
  5. Garth, no, I think we can safely say that anyone who fulifills the job description of being an idiot and a fool can be labelled such. Sort of an "if it walks like a duck...) etc. Most of the guys I saw doing the "blasphemy" thing didn't impress me. A statement of unfaith is fine. Howver it's not abnormal for someone who likes something to respond negatively when someone else is highly critical of it. Knock, cut down, blaspheme, insult something , whatever you want to call it - that's PRObably going to get a negative reaction from those who like that thing. But call me a snob, I'd like some craft, art, intelligence and respect in the criticism I DON'T care what you believe, scream it as loud as you want. That's just me though. No intelligence is required, of course. It's perfectly acceptable for people that want to keep saying the same things over and over, every time a subject comes up, regardless. No biggie. Thankfully there's no "organized" effort here by "religious folk" to smash the poor unfaithed people, just discriminating viewers.

waysider, we need to do some serious Roy B. discussion one o' these days here, yeppers. The Master of the Telecaster! Reversed Headstock? Isn't that the cute little gopher in "Peanuts" - plays with Snoopy's bowl all the time?

A la, you're going to stop fiddling around? Really? ho ho hawuhaaaa! Christ Duarte yes! He's good, Oaks, I haven't seen him live though. Like the music. For some scarey Roy, GIVE THIS A LISTEN Roy's checking out what appears to be a signature series Telecaster - it looks unrehearsed, standard Buchanan M.O. There's a keyboard and percussion backup. The intro/opening is long while they get set up and plugged in. The first guitar and tambourine (????) piece is soft of odd. The second piece is cool. Of note I thought is that Roy's single note blues/rock style is completely intact and presented, off the cuff on a new guitar that hasn't gotten broken in or Buchananized in any way. He does all of his sounds and techniques in that style for the camera, one take. And he goes 'outside' in spots too, wanders a little and pushes things around the way he does.

The only one I know of Ductape is a carryover from the earlier latin version of Greasespot, when it was called "Greasaparatza". It's buried now in some include file on the server but initiates if you ask for persmission to post. The file name is "rule9_obscurata.inc" and is coded so that if you ask permission to post the answer is "NO!" automatically. So I guess it's kind of too late for that. Best we ignore this and act like nothing happened. If anyone asks, I didn't see anything.
  14. Would that be a "deep fried friend" potato? I began selecting Friends in my GS profile. You just click on a name and select "ADD" and they're you're friend! Immediately! I think - there was some approval process. There have been some inquiries that came back as to what that meant. Well okay, only two. One, alright. One. And another that was more like mild acceptance, sort of a "well if you insist". With all the cool people posting here it seemed like an ideal opportunity. I'm not sure what it meant. From a GS standpoint, is anyone not a friend? I found it interesting that no one refused. No one responded, "Uh, no. Not really". Plus, I don't know if there's anything that comes with it, any special offers, coupons, free stuff. I don't have much free stuff to offer, but if I do, guaranteed - friends get it first. But hey, it can't hurt to be in line, y'know? Beat the rush, early's fine, that's my motto. I figured I'd select every registered user, by the summer, if the system would allow it. But then that would be the same as not selecting anyone, in a way. I could save a lot of time that could be better spent with friends, and just put a note on the profile somewhere that says "If you're reading this you're my friend. Now beat it!" Course, that might seem indescriminate, possibly diluting the meaning of "Friend", I'm not sure. Sort of like some people, they say "oh, I like Judy Ray Bob a lot!' and the response is "Oh, you like everybody". Maybe we should be more picky. But that seems unfriendly in a way. "I'd like to be your friend, but I can only handle about 5 at a time, tops. I'm kinda maxed out - but I could put you down as a first-alternative, how would that be? Or if you're a low-need friend, I could put you in for weekdays, Tuesday and Wednesday's, but no lunches, 'kaaay?" This whole friend business is difficult, much more that it seems on the surface. I'm definitely glad this is out in the open, being discussed amongst friends. Or ... is it....? <_<

I know if you don't cook them long enough they can end up with a tough taste, chewy. At least, that's been my experience.
  16. Potato! What did the potato say to the cow? "I only have eyes for ewe". Being a "Friend" is much more complicated that it appears at first glance, it seems. I suggest that we set up our friends differently then - maybe everyone on GS could be one person's friend, for a month. Then another, etc. It could go alphabetically. That way, there'd be like 527 "friends" for one person, but just that one. Then it would change every month. So for that one month, anything that one person says everyone agrees with, or at least posts some kind of positive response. It could work, it could.
  17. You should have no threads when it comes to friends, on purpose anyway.

  19. Saucey!!! :biglaugh: I wasn't a bully, I was too busy trying to not get my asz kicked to bully anyone! Being raised Catholic and attending a Catholic school for 8 years of elementary and 2 years of high school, I spent most of that time in a school "uniform", cordouroy black pants, a white shirt and a blue sweater. That was like wearing a sign reading "kick me" for 8 years. I grew up in East Oakland, CA. In East Oak-town you're going to get in a fight at some point in your life, "back in the day". It could be rough in some parts of town - there were girls that could slap the krap out of any two guys, some places. Oakland's a place you want to be very careful what you do. Today, it's different. People don't fight there, they just shoot each other. Much simpler and more efficient. They don't even get out of the car anymore, some places. Sort of a fast-food approach to bullying. Believe it or not I was somewhat sarcastic in my youth and often found myself using that and a little humor to confound the bigger animals. I wasn't a good runner, so I just tried to keep out of trouble. Most of the time though I just avoided the "bullies" and once I got a little older never had too much of a problem. There was a time when you could walk or bus it to just about anywhere in Oakland, although there were some parts you'd want to steer clear of. Today it's much much different.

I'm glad you're diggin' the sand and the surf Chatty! I confess - I'm a surf pup, musically. Dig that sound, although I'm not a water-surfer-er. 22. "Half-Stank" (adjective) measurement of someone's personal hygeine. "He was way over half-stank after 3 days in the woods camping" Used in 1/4 increments: 1/4 stank - normal levels, able to engage socially with others 1/2 stank - next planned activity should involve soap and water. 3/4 stank - down-wind contact should be avoided Full Stank - the normal condition after a week of at-home telecommuting to work.

(long lost budski answers phone) "Hello?" (you say) "Knock Knock! " (they respond) "Can you hold on please, there's someone at the door..." You should hang up, they may be gone for awhile....
  25. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it Roy. What do you think of it? Everytime someone says "G-d F-King-D-MMIT" and "J-zuz F-KING CHR-st!" they do the same thing, display their lack of respect. I live in a different world, I guess. I don't care what you believe or don't believe as long as I'm not being forced to accept either one. Some pimply kid or an adult with a stutter and a hungry dog aren't exactly what I'd call "blaspheming", but I guess it'll be big whoopdee doo for awhile. They don't "believe". Fine. Maybe they can start pulling their pants down and waving their d-ks at the camera, add some entertainment value to it. Videos of people talking on Youtube is kind of like watching a book. Y'know?
