Mr. H, some links to relevant discussions on Momentous- Worth a read, kind of long Lengthy, series of board posts, but includes some specific discussions about class content Scroll down to "concerned citizens" for a description of class content. One of the least qualifying points made in defense of these hacks is "if you haven't taken it you can't really comment on it" since you don't really know what goes on. The response to that would have to be - so give the kind of details that would allow an interested person to make an honest informed decision. Other weak responses: "Jesus didn't give detailed explanations to people about what He was doing". When Jesus opens one of these classes, I'll give Him cart blanche. These links give some details from people who have taken it. I'd be perfectly happy to read detailed descriptions of what the content is from satisfied customers too if they're out there. P.S. - to add - there's a postive feedback discussion portion in the second link. Interesting overall. Preachers like Joyce Myers have been brought up in these discussions, comparing their lack of degrees and "qualifications" to Momentous instructors. It's a bad comparison IMO. Generally bible preachers preach for free, there's no charge. Church services and meetings may include a financial collection but the benefits of attendance are free of charge to people that go, there's no compulsory fee to get in. The speakers want you to come, have something to say they believe is good and will be helpful and the doors are open - and work both ways. Generally speaking. There may be books and CD's and assorted gee-gaws and collectibles offered, no question about that. There may be seminars that include a fee, too. Church services and meetings however are widely available at no charge. So - if you don't like it, you don't have to haggle for a refund. If you do or don't like what you hear you're not restricted in what you can or can't say about it afterwards as a requirement to attend. You don't usually have to sign a waiver before hearing most church sermons, promising you won't hold them legally responsible for anything that goes wrong. What you see and hear is what you get. Period, it's a free-will, come as you are or don't come deal in many many many many, lots of churches. And there's a reason for that. Most preachers and ministers - a lot - don't equate spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ with making a buck. It's not a revenue stream, not a way to make money. If you are helped and join the church you aren't expected to now bring others in who can bring their money with them so they can pay up. That and Momentous are hugely different, and I'd never compare what someone like Joyce Myers does to what a certified instructor of Momentous does, not even based on content but strictly based on expectation and requirements to attend.

Wray never hit Vegas or did an Oldies tour, and while I respect people making a living, Wray did seem to exemplify his roots throughout his life. There's no way he shouldn't have been inducted the first couple years.

It's been said (although I can't remember by who) that agape/unconditional love/love is the product of a "higher consciousness" in a person. Some kind of value has to be placed on attempting to apply that kind of "Love". Plus, there has to be something to fuel it. Regular Grade fuel doesn't quite rev the engines to that point. Day to day dealings benefit from conditions, agreements, compliance, in fact thrive on those kinds of arrangments. I've come to the conclusion that unconditional love is born out of relationships. One example is the love of a mother or father for a child, and the love of a child for a parent. Regardless of what goes on day to day, "love" is maintained. Acceptance, support, forgivenss, help, cooperation. The relationship is consistent and constant regardless of what goes on and the benefits of the relationship do too, even if in silence, distance or closeness. It's there, spoken and unspoken. Bible saaaaaaays - God desires to have a real relationship with people as that of a "Father" with His children. A father is always a father, same for the child. So yeah polar bear - the Way defines it's relationships with it's members, with each other, very carefully. If you do this, are that, produce these things, the relationship is kept. If you don't, it's broken, but completely severed, not in disrepair. Ring in - the Way's bible teaching and application of "broken fellowship". Briefly, that God's relationship with us remains the same always, but it's we who may or may not maintain our end of the relationship. (They may say one thing about that but they definitely do another - like, the way past members have been deleted from their past, as if they were never there, never did anything, never graduated a Corps, ever helped build or ever did good things that should be remembered well.) Where they slip past the target there is that if - a person was to have a consistent relationship with someone else and have "agape" for them they wouldn't change how they act or feel, regardless of what the other person does. They would apply themselves to the relationship in whatever ways appropriate to manifest the solidity of the relationship. Or - if not, they'd break it off and boot 'em out. That's not agape/unconditional love/love as described in the bible though. Even though the Way teaches the words, they're out of The Word's fuel it would appear, there's not enough of the real thang to keep the fires stoked. It's always a challenge, I think as you said RainbowsGirl, and that's where the "higher consciousness" bit comes in - by making that a standard to reach for requires some thought and a search for the resources that would fuel such a thing. It may be a kind of meditation or "selah" deal for us. Considering that path for our lives brings us close to God. Or as my wife said once about our kids - "I love doing things for them. That's how we get close to them, but doing things for them". :) It's one kind of perspective, anyway.

Josie's your sister Chatty? Cool tune, the Danlings did a fine job on that album, Aja. Always interesting guitar work. And Walter Becker has a great style and sound, perfectly "Dan". I plan to check those songs out dmiller - great voices, Steve Perry of Journey is another one. He takes some hits for the pop-rock stuff but he really does well with anything he sings and he does pop-rock very very well. Huge range, memorable sound, once you've heard it you know it when you hear it again.

Trying to "fix" the Way is ill-advised. Think about it - if the fixer is the only one who thinks something broken, how can it get repaired? If we're talking a flat tire, no biggie. The tire's flat, it has no choice, it gets plugged, gets air, it's back on the road. Simple analolgy but common sense has to prevail there, no one's gong to try and drive a car on a flat tire and no one's going to say it's not flat when it is. Compare that to the Way and trying to fix it. Change the tire...a phrase meant to change out the old one for a new one. Again, common sense prevails. You can only plug a tire so many times. What's missing in the Way/fix it scenario is communication and a common desire between those involved to look at ideas, issues, questions, problems and at least discuss them and consider them. If the Way side figures "we're right" entertaining any of that will be seen as a weakness, a problem, wrong. You become the problem, not a participant helping it to get better. And what's missing is that people aren't tires of course. We break, get fixed, over and over. As long as we keep trying and working we always have the hope of getting better, at the least. We're always worth the effort because there's only one of each of us, there aren't replacements available. What some of these people (and I'm surmising here so bear with me) may be considering is a little more ghoulish, so to speak. They may be thinking if they're in place in the Way, present and accounted for, eventually the current generation will die and they'll move along up and down the ladder. Okay, that's an option, and inevitably that's going to happen if we are all here long enough. But that in my mind isn't "fixing' the Way.

Not to worry, ductape. Some things will have to be off limits, metaphorically speaking of course, in relation to the pending Boo Bans. Still there's crazies in every movement so it's good to get some things straight upfront and out on the table. So to speak. We can hope. Thanks for all the input and sharing! It's really given me a boost er-lift reading everyone's posts! I know if we put our heads to it we can make this work with all of these contributions!

This specific study group is built around reading and discussion. Average time is about 2 hours when there's tangential discussion off the chapter being read, which is usually the case. :) It's hosted in a home, with some time before and after for getting together and easing in and out. There's a primary faciliitator, although we're circulating through the group with volunteers taking a week here and there. The purpose isn't to have someone teach or attempt to dominate the discussion with a single opinion or interpretation, rather the discussion is gently guided. The idea is to allow there to be some learning and contribution both intellectually and spiritually. It's both vigorous and thoughtful at different turns. Questions are encouraged, viewpoints varied. There are some fairly mature and knowledgable participants as well as fairly new ones. As far as what "they" teach, there hasn't been a teaching in the study group or any of the church services we've attended that taught on the topics you're asking about Foot On A Rock. The respect for God, Jesus Christ and God's people is high. No offense but no one calls Jesus Christ "J.C" that I've heard. Yet it's not a stuffy bunch, a lot of young people in their teens to 30's, families, as well as older folks. The pastor's a young guy and very encouraging and enthusiastic in his faith but very rooted and down to earth too, not the least bit impressed with himself. Those topics could be discussed at great length here. I'd say my view of who Jesus Christ is has expanded considerably beyond the Way's book "Jesus Christ Is Not God". VPW didn't give the topic the breadth of inquiry I think it deserves although he did make what I have come to realize are some good points. But the real question isn't really who Jesus Christ Is NOT, it's who He was and is. I don't think VPW ever really articulated in print what he believed about that, and instead chose to hammer his contention that He wasn't "God". There's more to it than that of course and he knew that I think. To really keep learning beyond what the Way taught and that path of "logic" has been good for me. The dead - they don't talk much do they? Ultimately only they know what comes next. I don't argue that point one way or the other easily, I'd rather hold my thoughts to myself at this time. I'm just not a flag waver for any church or group. There's good ones and bad ones. It's worth the time though. I don't think the Way is a "good" church, other than some good people that might be with them. They just don't offer enough for me at this time. For a long time.

I think people who need a good head knocking to get their minds right should have a place to go to get it.

I'll grab hold of that if I get a chance sprawled out. After the first two albums I just lost interest. Couple things on the first album I liked, and Anthem of the Sun opened strong. Alligator, I liked. Now - as for 60's psycho-tronic bands, there was The Seeds, and Love. Love was actually a very good guitar oriented band I thought. "7 and 7 Is" was a kind of minor classic. Country Joe and the Fish - I really like some of their early instrumentals. Section 43 - the 2nd and 6th movements with the arpeggiated chords brings back fond memories, of the uh, memories. Porpoise Mouth was a cool tune. I always kind of liked Barry Melton's sense of humor, some of the stuff was seriously tweezed but did some nice stuff. But when he and Garcia would get that twicky Gibson SG sound going - nope, I never got it. Link Wray - yeah.

That'd be one bad butterfly, for sure. Figure, butterflies make the change they make from worm to winged wonder in a natural progression. What's a butterfly know from cocoons? Nothing. It's the outside observer that perceives the change. Breaking out of the cocoon is a one time event, and a natural progression of growth and change, not an artificial Event forced upon it. The stuff of growth is time and time flies for everyone be it a little or a lot. The cost of a class includes dough-ski, dinero, oney-may, long green and usually the kind that swiffs, not clinks. In fact there's a ratio of swiff to class that calculates out to Value. What good's a cheap class? Can't be good - if it was it would cost more, right? More cost, more good. It's the American Way. We've got expenses, this stuff doesn't happen by magic y'know.

The Dead are a Big Money machine. I really expect to see T-shirts at the Fillmore someday that will have a picture of Garcia and say "I'm Dead" on the front and on the back "And I'm Grateful". 45.00, Stoned Washed cotton, guaranteed to not shrink around the middle where it counts. But on to other cool things - like this: And again - He's consistent. Link Ray and some new Raymen, 1978 on the first one. He makes that tune work, I'll say that. It's funny on the one hand, but puts the "D" in dangerous on the other. No wonder the song survived!
