Recently, we have found ourselves trying to combat crime, go to work, protect our property and support our neighbors. The police advised us to have a few "BIG" guys walk the neighborhood to help stop crime. It iis not the 50's. Kids have guns. Criminals have guns. When I saw this story about these brave men I had to post it. Chatty Once upon a time I was a "good little girl" and I tried to obey my leaders. When I saw them doing things that were just "wrong" I was sick but most of the time I stayed in line. Then, I woke up to seeing a bigger deal good vs. evil and fought in the corps against what I would deem "crimes". I bet the police would have been sued by the GANG members. But like they told us, do not fear, you can not live in fear of retaliation, you need to STAND UP for yourselves and what is right, blaa- blaa -blaa. Oh really? Then start by example. The neighbors would have backed them for doing the RIGHT thing. Shoot the pits.

Here is my take on raising the dogs to attack animals and humans. I do not believe it is just for "fights" like cock fighting. I believe the pits will help the criminal when the police dogs are sent in, the pit will win, or if you have a dog and they want to rob you? Throw a pit in the house first, or bring it with you on a home invasion. The gang problem is sweeping this country and some problems are now global. A handful of police can not fight huge organized evil, then marches in an almost military stratagy. Like "Blood Diamond" someone will go into a town with an AK47 and go after the whole town -- taking it over. And, although more covert, this seems to be happening here in the good old USA. The owner of Lucas went to a crime watch meeting in the SAME county where I live. They told them they do not have the man power to help and to GET A DOG. It doesn't help when trained attack dogs are walking around with the "gang". I have been crying for two days over little Lucas. But it is representative of a larger problem. Lucas being the normal person just trying to make the world a better place, being faced with organized evil, trying to pervert and assasinate good. I am sick for Lucas. I am sick for us.

They HAD to call Animal Control, they arrived an hour later. The pits were already moving on. The neighbors had to keep an eye on them without getting attacked, and gude AC to get the dogs. I have no idea what AC would have done, but I would have SHOT or tazarred (having both) the pits The law here is you cannot shoot an animal who is killing another animal. Only if it attacks a human. Did they obey the law? Yes. Is the law a bad law in this situation? I believe so. I would have been a cop on report -- I would have shot the dang dogs

That is how I feel, it is inhumane to stand and watch this and do nothing.

When the plane struck the tower, Daisy led her blind owner, his boss and about three hundred others out of the building. Not satisfied, she ran back into the building two more times to lead people out. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she had saved 967 lives. Daisy was the first civilian Canine to win the Medal of Honor of New York City. A heroic story, but more the stuff of Hollywood than reality. There was no Daisy, no Medal of Honor of New York City. However there was a Roselle who behaved the way Guide Dogs are trained to behave. On the morning of 9/11, Michael Hingson was working on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center. His yellow Labrador Guide Dog, Roselle, was sleeping peacefully under his desk when the building was struck by a plane under the control of terrorists. With his well trained discipline Roselle led Michael through the noise, smoke and rubble of the office to the stairwell to begin the long decent. Once on ground level Roselle remained focused as they continued walking away from the chaos of the building. When they were about two blocks away, Tower 2 began to collapse. To escape the ash and debris, they started running for the subway. Roselle eventually guided Michael to the home of a friend in mid-Manhattan where they stayed until the trains were running again. There were two brothers sentenced to prison for cooking a puppy in the oven. here in Atlanta Lucas was such a great dog, why the police did not help him is beyond me.

That is horrible. The police should shoot the pit bulls and the pig who sent that box to that young girl

The neighborhood restaurant We have lived in a small town now for over a dozen years. Many or most of us go around the corner to a little family owned restaurant. It is family owned by a Chinese family, who greet us with big smiles and appreciation for our business. They speak in their accents which adds to the charm. Last week, two young teenagers, suspected to be cr1ps, ran into the place, while families ate and people worked in the most delightful environment. They drew their guns and started to bark orders. One 19-year-old Guatemalan immigrant, did not speak English, so he did not obey their demands. They shot and killed him, as the neighborhood families tried to keep their children from crying, or seeing the gruesome site. This boy had been in the states one week. They believe these young teens are part of the gang who recently came to our neighborhood, as they fled on foot. Loads of flowers were placed by the restaurant....

Once there was a Border Collie mix named Lucas. He loved to walk his little boy (friend) home from the school bus. He was 38 pounds, very kind, and had a black and white pattern, which made him look as if he were wearing a tuxedo. I knew Lucas and to say he was lovable would be an understatement. (He used to come to our animal hospital) One day, Lucas went to escort his “kid” home and two pit bulls showed up. A little girl screamed and ran in fear, the pits in pursuit, Lucas tried to corral the pits away from the child. He threw himself in the path of danger neighbors claimed. Then, one pit clamped down on the front part of Lucas, and the second clamped down on his stomach area, ripping in the other direction. The police were called, and when they came, the neighbors begged the police to shoot the pit bulls. The police said they could only shoot a dog if it attacks a human, not another dog. For 30 minutes these dogs ripped Lucas a part. One neighbor got a pickaxe and began to beat the pits who still would not let go. It took Lucas 30 minutes to die as the police watched. I believe they were irresponsible to not shoot the pits or beat them with nightsticks or something. The pits, prior to shredding Lucas, had killed two family cats as well. The pits were being raised by two different families of "young men", one Hispanic tattoo sporting low-riders, who all in the neighborhood knew but could not prove, were raising pits to fight. The other, raised by a primarily black "family" with one very nasty looking white guy, who was doing the same. It was believed by neighbors, who again were unable to prove, they trained the pits to fight and kill by giving them kidnapped pets and pets from Animal Control. Both parties went to court three times to reclaim their dogs. The offended neighbors went to court to prohibit the return of the dogs. The dogs were euthanized and each group of owners fined $3,000.00 each. Welcome to the new Atlanta. Do you believe the cops should have shot the pits? I at least believe we should change the law to allow them to shoot. Oh, Lucas you were so brave my little friend....

It seems, if someone does not agree with him they are extremists. Or "unblanaced" I think anyone who could turn their back on a dog flopping on the ground, barely moving for three days would be pretty unbalanced themselves. There are rights involved but nobody has the right to (negelcet to the point of) abuse a pet. There is a blance to everything. If a dog is in the rain, and someone takes him, that is not right. But if one is neglected or abused to the point this one was, something needs to be done. We have a neighbor who rescued a Greaat Dane being used to teach pitbulls how to attack. They used him as bait, tied to a tree and let the pits go after him. PEOPLE stepped in to rescue him and my neighbors took the dog in. Another neighbor heard a dog screaming for about three days until she could track where it came from. The dog was left in the yard as the people went away for the weekend. He had jumped the fence and was hanging somehow by his tail or something that caught. She took the dog to the vets. Told the neighbors, they paid for the vet bill and all is fine. Sometimes you have to get involved. Sometimes not. It is a journey. I do not fault Tammy for her ability and courage to step in when she felt she was suppose to -- in this situation.

The neighbor said Jake was on the ground for THREE days, she kept trying to get help legally i.e., the proper channels to no avail. She then called Dogs deserve better and Tammy got involved. I believe somewhere in there it said the vet gave him steriod shots to help his back. So, there was something the owner could have done. The owner just did not do it. It is easy for the owners NOW to claim they intended to do something -- like euthanize or whatever. But to let Jake get into that condition when Tammy's vet fixed him up and the Vet did sign something saying the dog was neglected, leds me to believe they were just going to turn their backs (as the history) and let him die. We get people at the vet's who say they do not want to pay for euthanizing, they would just let the dog go under a bush and die. Our vet then paid for the euthanizing. We had one AZZ whose dog had parvo, he was going to stomp him to death... as he was not going to pay to treat the parvo or put him down. He said to me, "I gots to do what I gots to do." AZZ As far as the dog pacing, I think the camera filming him probably frreaked him, it does my dogs, and they try to walk away from me when I hold it, I follow them, then they turn the other way and walk in that direction. In all threads regarding animals D*cktape always has an "attitude", I wonder were you ever arressted for abusing one and you are still mad about it, were you bitten by a dog as a child, scratched by a cat as you bullied an old lady? Was a relative a rodeo clown who was stomped by a bull? Just curious about your "flame throwing" attitudes -- you always seem to have, when bringing up animals? Rottie, I love that passage from numbers! Ductape We posted at the same time, okay then, what is your beef with animals if you have been so helpful to them? Why did you stop that? In this state, you can break the windows after 10 minutes or if the animal seems to be in distress, similar in California. Seems like a good law to me.

Not sure if she broke the law. This was in PA> I know HERE in this state we have the right to do certain things to help animals. They do not take abuse lightly here, after you get someone to finally listen to you.

I do not know how the dog is currently. Why would anyone lock a dog in a shed in the summer? It can "bake" in there like in a hot car. I am so glad you took care of him, is he okay?

Thanks Rottie Our mail man at the hospital has Animal Control on Speed Dial. He sees dogs tied to a tree without water in 100o weather, beaten, sick and abused dogs all day long. I would have had to so something if this dog were in my neighbor's yard. Just Like I would call the police if I saw a beaten child, or spouse... Right now I neeed prayers for little TY who still is in need of a home, I only have a few days left to find him a place. Back to the topic, it took some great heart for this woman to step in and help this dog, IMO

Yes, I am saying I do not believe you are mean. A fighter -- yes I do not believe you would try to hurt me on purpose. Bluzeman -- you are my hero along with a few other noble knights like Dmiller and Ron for trying to protect me from what COULD HAVE been a disaster for me. Thank you. Rick If I had slipped and posted it, I would be a wreck right now for it being mentioned. And I would panic and try to have PAW take it out. You are right, it would be horrible for me after excaping what I had to hide from. In a way, not really sure, but in post #72 it looks like Rocky apologized. Guys, I am crying at your kindness and defense of what may have injured me. I sure do love you. And Rocky if that was an apology, I accept it. I don't know Rocky well on here. What I know of him he likes to fight, it seems he enjoys "war". I do not like being at war all the time. (Sometimes) But in reading this, I am not sure he tried to hurt me, I have a hard time believing he is that mean. I do believe he is a smart guy and likes to argue. But I cannot believe he would try to set me up for real harm. Knowing I said I was uncomfrotable, he'd have to know there might be some BIGGER reasons for remaining quiet about it, not that he knew I have been hiding from an Ex for years, I can only believe he must of brought it back up for some other reason. He is a fighter, I don't know that he is a mean person. So, I am good. Peace
