Brother Roy, send Chapter Two and many after that.

Weeelll, I think of Ruth Simmons. Shortly after she became the first black president of an Ivy League school (Brown University) she was on 60 Minutes. She said something I will never forget..... you don't go to college so you can get a job. You go to learn. She is one person I so immensely admire and respect. One day I will meet her, talk, and thank her. She is inspiring. As I have told my children, you can choose whatever job you want....BUT you WILL get an education. You can lose a lot of things in life. Your education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you.

Unflippin believable with all this going on the citizens would re-elect Sheriff Joe with 83% of the vote. Is that number correct? 83%? Did the voters really do that? I don't have a dog in this show. I have read how the sheriff treats those not yet convicted or been to trial the same as those who have. I don't think that is right. I remember reading that the sheriff got his idea of pink from our state. The inside walls of a maximum security prison here are painted pink and the prisoners wear pink. That has been so for nearly 21 years. Supposedly, a study said pink has a calming effect.

I just read what I originally posted. Geez, I sounded goofy and kind of rambled on. I was so excited about highschool baseball season starting, watching my boy play ball and just being at a real live baseball game, giddiness took me over. Hallelujah, baseball is alive and well!

Well, Jeff, when I first read the line "when is it not wise to talk about devils" it struck my funny bone. I have catered many weddings and funerals. Boy, OH, boy have I heard some name calling. The majority of it has been done in whispers. Why, as the caterer, the families assume I need to know what they think about the other family is beyond me. I never thought to charge for that. I have only one experience with a TWI leadership doing a funeral. It was for my brother. My brother was not associated with TWI. The Corps person was very kind and loving.

When is it not wise to talk about devils...?.....maybe funerals and weddings. That is the first thing that came to mind.

Years ago, I was watching a NFL football game. They had a guest announcer who was a retired famous coach. I forget who it was. As they were talking about the game the cameras scanned the sidelines and several players said, "Hey mom. Hey mom, we're number one, etc." The regular announcer asked the famous coach, "why is it when players know the camera is on them they always talk to their mother?" The retired coach said, "Because when you hit a home run or score a touch down dad is the one cheering you on. But when you ride the bench the entire game it is Mom that cheers you on." I have never forgotten that. And boy, oh boy, oh boy did I learn that all over again tonight. The boy had a doubleheader baseball scrimmage tonight against another highschool team. I knew the weather forecast. I took several layers to keep warm. The wind was cutting. The wind chill was 32 degrees. The second inning of the double my friend and I looked around and noticed that the mothers (except my oldest son) were the only ones in the stands. The men were in the heated storage room watching the game. We moms talked about unconditional love. We start out baseball season nearly freezing to death, then being blown away with the cold wet rainy wind, then frying in the heat, and ending up in November nearly freezing again. That is the way it is if your boy plays travel ball. But I gotta tell ya, everytime my boy walked to that plate he glimpsed to make sure big brother and I were looking. He would make a spectacular catch behind the plate and would sneak a peek to make sure we saw it.....just like his two older brothers did when they played baseball. To me that is about as precious as it gets......"Hey mom watch this...did you see that?"

Alright, Leafy, Ca-li-forn-eye-AAA, year round sunshine, heat wave and planter boxes! Stop making me jealous. XOXO's! Now that I am recently equipped with a digital camera (and as soon as I soak in all the info on the dvd that came with it) I am gonna shoot you some baby leaves as soon as I get them!! Hot dang it. My plan for Wednesday was to put in the broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, early peas, spinach and lettuces . It had finally dried out enough. I woke up and it was pouring down rain. We even had 2 tornado watches. Not complain'in. Still loving on the much needed rain. I figure it will all come together. I think now it is too late for the early peas. No June peas for me. Yuccsshh, I don't like those big-fat-squishy-mushy-green peas.

O. K. I have read tons of stuff referring to splinter groups. I just read some posts that made me realize maybe I don't know what they are. Exactly what is a splinter group? When I think of a splinter I think...ouchie boo boo, Ooowwiee, that hurts.

Cindy, My heart rejoices with yours. How surreal it must be to know that your baby is going to have a baby! I know where you are coming from, sistuh, when you say it has been a long time since there has been a baby in the house. Our Justin and Ashley will be married one year March 1. They are the closest prospect for a grandbaby. But with just buying their first home and their careers they are going to wait a couple of more years. My grandmother biological clock is ticking here!! I have a couple of knees made for rocking and arms for holding, here now!!! You go, grandma and grandpa.

As of yet, I do not own a digital camera. Yes, I am behind the times. I have my first cell phone for all of 2 months now. I do intend to purchase a digital camera in the next couple of weeks. My baby sister told me what and what not to purchase. I will most definitely need someone to come over and teach me how to post pictures. I am so pathetic when it comes to computers and technology. But I am determined. I will post the pics....the corn may be come and gone...but I will post them. Still can't get anything in the ground...too wet. Not complaining, though, heck no.

Because I haven't read everything on here I may be posting old news. I heard on PBS two weeks ago that Ken Burns is in the process of making an additional segment titled, "The 10th Inning." Make it your new signature line mstar1. We would be honored.

I have to share this with you guys. Picked up my highschool sophomore from baseball practice today. Heading home he said, 'Mom, this was the most perfect day." I said, yeh, why is that? "Because I woke up and then played baseball." I don't think it gets more precious and innocent than that. A boy and his love for baseball.

It was 65 degrees today. I got out in the yard and started digging the trench for the wiring to the fountain I intend to put in. For this project I am intend to learn as much as I can about concrete forms and pouring concrete. Making the fountain myself. I know what I want but refuse to pay the price for a store bought one. I can do this. How hard can this be? That is what I keep telling myself, anyway. That is what I keep telling myself...telling myself.... I am going to mix color in the concrete and place decorative glass pieces in it. I made stepping stones (formed in pizza boxes) and bricks (formed from cut down shoe boxes) so I figure I can do this. Instead of buying rebar I think I could use wire coat hangers for the fountain. The local dry cleaners has the heavy duty hangers and they will sell them to me for 3 cents apiece. Will take them some veggies from the garden this summer for their kindness. Got the soil ready for the early peas. I want it to rain one more time on the fertilizer and compost before I plant the peas. If it doesn't rain in a few days I will plant the peas and water myself. I have decided to buy large barrels and place under my roof over hang to capture rain water. Happy gardening, everyone xoxoxo

"Carry on, oh, wayward son. There'll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest. Don't you cry no more." Mercy sakes alive! How well I remember that album. Remembers (not a typo) me of my wilder days.

Great info, Shellon. In our small town there are 3 independent food banks. Local foodbanks is another great resource for folks. Publix fills antibiotic prescriptions for free. Their list is on line. Check with your grocery store pharmacy or drug store. You never know.

Seth, sorry I missed your birthday. Haven't been on here for a couple of days. I hope your birthday was every thing you wanted it to be and more.

There is nothing in life like a newborn baby. You'll know it when you bring him home. All of a sudden!!... there is a baby in the house!! All of life changes. You will count his every breath. I remember those days. Nothing like it...nothing like it. My heart rejoices with yours.....ooohhh, them babies.

The daffs are blooming here, also. The temps have mostly been in the 50's and 60's. Then wouldn't you know it...boom...29 degrees tonight. It is suppose to be back in the 60's by Saturday. But, hallelujah, we have been getting much needed rain. I won't complain about not getting the early peas in the ground as it has been is too wet to work. It is almost coming up on the time to plant spring cabbage, broccoli and brussel sprouts. If the ground is too wet to plant, so be it. We will take the rain. Rain on us. Leafy, when you mention gophers I think of Bill Murray in the movie Caddyshack. Have you tried any of his methods?!?! Happy gardening!!

Rejoice, check with your local university extension program. They are a wealth of help and information suited just for your area. They will talk to you on the phone and even come out to your home. They do in my area anyway. Consider container planting since you have questions about cold and sunlight. Artificial sunlight (lightbulbs) can be used. Plants respond to heat and light no matter the source. Mint, oh, the glories of mint. I knew it was invasive but I planted it in a spot in the yard anyway. Prolific growers, yes siree!!!! I have to tell you the aroma it produced in the neighborhood when we continued to mow right over it had folks asking what were we growing!!! Ha! Ha! That was the one upside of growing mint in the ground. It has died off. There is one patch left. I think I will leave it. The aroma is heavenly. Besides, we need it for mint julep! My resident Rosemary monstrosity is the focal point in one part of a garden. She was one little sprig when I planted her just 3 years ago. She is beautiful and grand. I clip her stems, bring them into the house, put in a vase of water, then snip several leaves in half. The aroma it produces permeates the entire house. The aroma begins to fade and I clip more leaves in half. Google Rosemary. The many wonderful properties are amazing. Happy Gardening!!!
