George Aar said, " I can't think of anything more UNholy than religion, no matter the brand..." George, I wish I had said that. The most wicked force on the face of the earth...religion. The most powerful force on the face of the earth....Love. Love, baby, love.
  2. mstar1, Field of Dreams jerks my tears especially when Ray sees his father and most notably younger than Ray. "Hey, Dad wanna have a catch?" I have seen grown men and teenage boys teary over this one. Pride of the Yankees is still my favorite. The Sandlot is right up there. Like I said, boys who play baseball for free. Most of the original biggies did. I wonder what the original five in the Hall of Fame would think of the salaries of today?
  3. now I see, you are so funny!!! I would nominate this for as the turd whirls!!!
  4. Foghorn Leghorn, my favorite!!! I say, I say...then after he had little Leghorn...That's my boy! Holy smackeral, it has rained non-stop since the 26th. And I don't mean a sprinkling. From last Thursday until Monday it has been steady RAIN. It let up a little Tuesday. It has been non-stop since late Tuesday. I can not believe how much the lettuces have grown in a week. I need to clip them but the ground is too wet to walk in the garden. Today, I looked out of my kitchen window and they seemed to be doing a hula dance. The windy rain was swaying them back and forth. Yummy, good eats when lettuce has had plenty of rain. The cabbage is growing nicely. Gonna try my hand at an old fashioned sauerkraut recipe...more yummies.....The snow peas...we shall see. They seemed to have stopped growing.
  5. I was prompted by Incredimail to upgrade and I did. Since then I can receive all and send everything except pictures and videos. After a while trying to send the above I get an error that says Socket error....SMTP...A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time or established connection failed because connected host failed to respond. Help...thanks.
  6. Vewwy intewestin that on 9th of April, TCM is showing baseball movies starting at 6 am. Most notably is the Monty Stratton Story at 9 am. Safe At Home, starring Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris at 4 pm. Then right after that, Bang The Drum Slowly. Great movie. The boy and I had never heard of Monty Stratton. True story. Incredibly inspiring.
  7. When I read Calling all Innies, my first thought went to bellie buttons and piercings (Oakspear wants to know if twi allows it) and then my silly thinking went to the First Church of the Navelites. Wish I could help you Oakspear.
  8. Watered Garden, the more I think about it, maybe, the answer to election by predestination can be found in Tics and Tacks.
  9. Leafy, I doubt I could have free range chickens right now. I have two labs that live in the back yard. We had Rhode Island Reds and some sort of chickens that were rather large and had all white feathers. rumrunner, in these here parts it is the all holy Mason jar; good for canning and being used for the likes of sipping sweet iced tea and storing moonshine....so the southern lore goes about moonshine. About the only thing I don't can is corn and red and green bell peppers. I blanch and freeze it. Red and green bell peppers just slice, toss together in a little salt and put in freezer. Near the end of the mater season when there is not enough to can just core, peel, toss a little salt in with them and freeze. I have a chest deep freezer. All items to be frozen are put in freezer containers and then wrapped in freezer paper or butcher paper. For those who only have a refrigerator freezer if you wrap your frozen foods like this they will last a lot longer. It helps tremendously to prevent freezer burn. Most of the time freezer burn results from the defrost cycle of the fridge. Notice during that cycle how the interior of the freezer is a little warmer and seems to thaw a little or become more "liquid" as I call it. The same thing is happening to the exterior of the food. I use a pressure canner for beans, peas and squash.
  10. Watered Garden, my sentiments, exactly.
  11. Well, all I have is clay, clay, clay and more clay. That is why I amend, amend and have amended the soil over the years. Yet, with the glories of lime much has been grown in clay in our region. Amazing how nature becomes acclimated. Leafy, we most assuredly are brethren. We are chicken lovers!!! I grew up wringing chickens necks. I have become such a softie I don't know if I could do it now. My grandparents raised chickens, pigs, corn and tobacco. Every Saturday afternoon I accompanied Grandpa to the chicken yard. Let me tell you this wasn't just a pen. It was nearly a quarter of an acre. And I might add the outhouse was in the back left corner. I visited the old place a couple of years ago. It was still as big as I imagined it. And let me tell you folks, if you have never eaten fresh chicken and bacon or sausage.....you can't imagine. My grandparents raised it all on the feed they grew.....no additives except sage, salt and peppers. Folks back in that time knew how to grow, preserve, and live off the land. I am thankful I learned from them. Holy moly, the garden they grew that sustained them through the winter......the canning....I remember. One of these days I am gonna have to write about the smoke house. Spooky place. Large carcasses hanging from the rafters.....We were forbidden to open the door. But being children we would sneak a peek and run away screaming. Gosh, those were truly the good days. Did I mention the cellar under the tobacco house where the canning goods were stored?
  12. One of the boys on my son's team was removed yesterday by the coach. The boy had been skipping school and was busted for smoking pot. I have watched this boy grow up. Ever since he was a youngster he had a gift, a second nature about the game. When he was five years old and playing T-Ball we used to joke that while other players were looking at the clouds, he knew every moment where the ball was. He made the highschool jv team in seventh grade. He was on the varsity team in 9th grade. In our state boys can not play varsity until ninth grade. He played short stop and second base. He has had a drive, a passion, I have rarely seen in someone so young. Many of us are heart sick over this. You should have seen coach. All day I wondered why he looked like he was about to cry. Coach is a wonderful, loving man, a mentor to many of the boys. This boy loves and respects coach, as all the boys do, including mine. Coach is determined to not let this boy throw his life away.
  13. Real baseball? When boys play it for free.
  14. Leafy, you do have some beautiful lovelies and babies!!! You got it going on, girl!!! Now about those chickens. I am so jealous. I want hens for laying. I can do that. But I also want to raise chickens for meat. My only problem is that I would make pets out of them and never be able to eat them. I have thought it would be grand to raise my own turkeys for meat. But I would make them my pets.
  15. Groucho, Happy Birthday, baby!!!
  16. Happy Birthday, Watered Garden!!! You are a sweetheart.
  17. I reminded myself tonight that I am a dumbster. I didn't know until a few weeks ago that Pluto is no longer considered a planet in our solar system. It is a plutoid thingy along with that other heavenly orb that was "discovered." There was a very important meeting of astronomers and it was voted by most of them to decide such. The National Geographic episode was made a couple of years ago. I thought I had watched something new!!! I told several people about it and they all responded, "Yeh, you didn't know that?" Then my little 89 year old lady friend said, "Honey, where have you been?" I gotta get out more........
  18. Laughing furiously. Thanks Excathedra. We can count on you with just the right sentiment at just the right time. I love it!!!!

    r-word

Tonight, the boy jokingly referred to his older brother as a retard. I didn't like it, not even in jest. I called him on it. I grew up in a home where my mom's husband used words like retard and stupid to hurt us. Maybe, I am just too sensitive. Good. I hope so. At least where other people's feelings are concerned. Now if you want to use to use retard or stupid concerning yourself go for it. nandon, that being said the n word was not SPECIFICALLY created to demean black people. Originally, it simply had to do with the color of the skin. Check out the etomology of the word. Of course, now, decent, loving folks would never use that term. It is the heighth of racial hatred and bigotry.
  20. How about when you ask a student why they didn't bring pencil and paper to class and he replies, "My mama says if you want me to do work then you should give it to me." or...I am going to call your parents and tell them how you are acting in class. "Go ahead, and my mama will wanna know what you did to upset me." It is not our educational system that is failing.....it is the breakdown of the family unit that is failing our children. Many families are single parent. Many single parents are working two and three jobs just to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. And then there are some parents who don't give a wahoo. I was shocked to learn when the boy was in elementary school there were some children who would not eat after they left school on Friday until they returned on Monday. Most schools in our nation, I would dare to say, have taken on the role of parenting and mentoring. They teach more than the three r's. They are having to teach life and coping skills so they can teach the three r's. Teaching conflict resolution in first grade. Not a bad thing. Unfortunately, that has become the nature of the beast. Funding? We need something. In all of the boy's classes there is only one set of books for all periods. Nobody brings a book home. That has been so since he was in middle school. Check a book out from the high school library? Nope. It may not be returned and there is no extra money to purchase another one. Come in early before school to read it or stay after school to read it. Yet, funding can fund, fund, fun, not so funny away. How do you fund rebuilding the family unit?
  21. I don't believe Father allows bad things to happen to us so we can learn or He can "use" us in some way to teach us or others. (Just my belief. It works for me. I do understand why some in this life believe otherwise.) We allow it by choices, beliefs, life habits, generational curses and just some stuff we can't explain. The stuff we can't explain is methods, wiles and schemes of the evil one. he comes to kill, steal and destroy. he attempts to kill us, steal our health, beliefs, family etc. and destroy families, marriages etc. We are already complete in Christ. We already have everything Father is going to give us. What we do with it is up to us. If Father were in charge we would be a lot better off. Ephesians 3:20. Father is able to do....but according to the power that works in us. Our charge is Christ the Head of His Body. He is the brain, the mind. So many times in my life I tried to figure out all the ways He could resolve something!!! Ha!! Ha!!
  22. "In this life you will have many troubles." I wonder how Father knew to tell us, to warn us of that. He was looking out for us. Just like a loving Father does for His children. Just like we parents do for our children. Father knows how the evil one works. I once heard someone say, (gee, I wish I could take credit for this) "If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and you walk in His footsteps what makes you think your life is going to be any different than His?" Holy crap, I can't tell you what that did to wake me up. Father has nothing to do with my "problems." He doesn't create them, He doesn't allow them. In this life I will have many troubles. I am thankful in (not for) all things. Because He has made a way to escape. All I know about predestination is that homosapiens make homosapiens, robins make robins, and H2O is always wah wah.
  23. Here is another one. "Imagine me needing someone. Back on Earth I never did. Oh, there were women. Lots of women. Lots of love making but no love. You see that's the kind of world we'd made. So I left, because there was no one to hold me there."
  24. Bolshevic, I hooted. Although, I did have one cashier back in my restaurant days make 8 dimes and 3 pennies for .83 in change. There was plenty of quarters and nickles in the drawer. She was about to graduate as a nursing student. Now, THAT is scary!!
  25. Time for a group hug. Rocky, you are a man sensitive enough to be in touch with your neurosis side!! Funny...funny...laughing!!!
