This musical won three Academy Awards. David Hemming didn't sing at all, although he was the only trained singer in the cast. In later years, the star bought the rights to the stage version of the movie for $1 million, revamped the musical, and took it on tour. It made him a very rich man. During one rocky period in the film's production, David Hemmings came to collect the star from his house in the Hollywood Hills. When he arrived, he found him on a balcony above the swimming pool. "I'm going to jump", he announced. "You can't do that", Hemmings protested. "There's no water in the pool". The star replied, "I don't give a f--k. I f--king hate Warner Brothers and f--king Hollywood, the people here are all f--king arseholes". Hemmings climbed out on to the balcony. "Are you sure you really want to do this?" The star's face fell, and he said "No, I don't. Let's have a drink." He and Hemmings became life-long friends. The star wanted very badly to play the lead role but was repeatedly turned down due to his limited singing ability. He eventually won over the producers by pointing out that he was taller than the leading lady, whereas Richard Burton, also up for the role, was shorter than she. For a post-marriage bath scene with the leading lady, the star startled everyone by strutting onto the set completely nude with a large erection. (There is no nudity in the film.) George

Still not getting it. George -
This show is more of an ensemble piece, but I will refer to the actor portraying the main character as the "star." The star was the first to suggest that his character should be Scottish (originally the character was Québécois) but was turned down. He was later informed late into Season 1 filming that his character was changed to be Scottish from the actor's own hometown of Dundee. In the opening credits there is a brief image of an ATN broadcast. The on-screen headline says, "Gender fluid illegals may be entering the country twice." The ticker below says, "Dem senator wants to create 'supremer' court" and "Is 'sweetcheeks ' hate speech now?" George

Indeed. I've named almost every recognizable actor in the film. Here's a hint: Next to Terms of Endearment, it may be the quintessential Chick Flick. George

Well, I THOUGHT it would be easy... "You never study." "Back off, man! We're SCIENTISTS!" 1: "Are you a God?" 2: "No." 1: "Then... DIE!" 3: "Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"!" "We came, we saw, we kicked it's a-s-s!" George

True, but I can see every other person on the list whom I recognize doing Shakespeare. George -
It sounded like something Al Bundy would have been in. George

If I "read what's written," it says that his role as an artist is to express what we feel, not that that is everyone's sole role in life. Of course, he certainly wasn't above "preaching": "Imagine" was certainly a political statement. Most of the Beatles' stuff was pretty non-ideological, though. George

This is probably too easy, but it might get the thread rolling again: "You never study." "Back off, man! We're SCIENTISTS!" George
