  1. This is one advantgage of getting older. At 20, I wouldn't have looked at a 30-year-old woman. Now, women in their 50's look good; and guess what? So do women in their 40's, 30's, 20's, and (LATE) teens! :D--> George
  2. 20,000+ for the VP memorial ROA was probably accurate. I was there; it was crowded. As I recall, there never were as many as 4000 WOWs in a year (even with multiple "waves"), although there was supposed to be some "spiritual significance" for that number. There may have been more than 3000 WOWs at one time, however. George
  3. I wonder if that's true. First, I would guess that most churches are "cults" with small followings. It would be hard to find out which ones have websites against them. The larger churches, RC, for example, probably do have websites warning of their evils, as well. With "a billion" Catholics around (I think that number is as inflated as "5000" Wayfers), surely SOMEONE must have an anti-Catholic website! George
  4. No, but they still have the "stick": since they're the "true household of God," leaving is tantamount to leaving God and His protection. If you buy the premise, you buy the conclusion. :(--> George
  5. To quote Rascal from another thread: "It is so sad that what we invested our hearts and lives in was not a legitimate christian organisation....not serving God as we believed.....much good could have been accomplished ....but alas, twi is just one more imploding little cult....sigh" I'm reminded of the TV show Alias, especially the first season, when most of the cast THOUGHT they worked for the CIA, but were in fact working for "SD-6," a criminal organization. I wonder if "Arvin Sloane" ever took PFAL? :D--> George
  6. It sounds vaguely familiar, but I haven't any idea why. George

    Cool Story

    "Ranting like rabid monkeys"???? George
  8. I've got the body of a twenty-year-old. And is he mad at what I've done to it!! :D-->
  9. Though not particularly zany, Texas has had some dumb laws. Until a few years ago, it was legal to drink while driving, though it was illegal to drive while drunk. --> I suppose that if a policeman saw you chugging Jack Daniels while driving, it might have been considered probable cause for a sobriety test. (This is in contrast to Illinois, where (at least when I was growing up 30 years ago) it was illegal to drive with a bottle of booze IN THE TRUNK, if its seal was broken.) To try to save Mom 'n Pop stores from losing all their business to the big chains that were open all weekend, it was illegal to buy all sorts of items on Sunday. (Technically, the wording was that the item could not be sold on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday. It was just easier for merchants not to sell on Sunday.) I still remember getting furnishings for my apartment. I could buy trash can liners, but not a trash can! Though mostly repealed now, there is still one "blue law": auto dealers can't be open on both Saturday and Sunday. (A lot of them get around this by having more than one location and allowing you to "virtually" shop the location that's closed.) George
  10. "Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask"? George (It definitely has a Woody Allen-esque air about it.)
  11. There was a charming book (over thirty years old now) called "The Last Catholic in America." It had a sequel (which I didn't read) called "Do Patent Leather Pumps Really Reflect Up?" (or something like that). Frankly, it was easier just standing next to a puddle (same effect, broader view)! :D--> George
  12. Based on the language, I'm guesing "Scarface." George P.S. You probably could have gone another day on the previous movie. Steve! has been tied up all weekend with the anniversary party, and Pirate doesn't log in much on the weekend.
  13. One last Bogey try: "The African Queen"? George
  14. It's probably too soon to tell. Sometimes (before) it was very quick. I haven't had any major slowdowns in the last couple of days, so maybe it's better. George
  15. Yeah. I realized my mistake on my way to work this morning. I was going to edit it before anyone found out :o--> but forgot all about it when I got here. I think I'm not getting enough sleep. George
  16. I agree with Lifted Up. Worth is an individual judgment comparing cost with benefit. No two of us had the exact same experience with TWI; and even if we did, the effects on the balance of our lives would be different. Answering for myself only, yes, it was worth it. George
  17. Oh, and my sister and I have birthdays on the same day of the month and three of four times on the same day of the week. Her birthday is Feb. 20; mine is Mar. 20. On leap year, our birthdays are not on the same day of the week. George
  18. In a group of 23 people, the odds are better than 50% that at least two will share a birthday. Start with one person. The odds that the next person will have the same birthday is 1/365. The odds that a third person would have the same birthday as one of the first two is 1/364, so the odds that any two of the three share a birthday is 1/365 +1/364. By the time you get to 23 people, the sum is greater than 1/2. George
