A lab I used to work in had fume hoods so loud we used to call them "the cone of silence"! Someone standing next to you would talk, and you could see his lips move but not hear a word! George

I used to roast chestnuts at my grandmother's place, years ago. What a fun memory! George

I think I can prove that the increase in promiscuity, etc., can be shown to be caused by an increase in the number of people who confuse correlations with cause/effect relationships. George

Hey, Boys and Girls, I'm BAAAACK! Any new quizzes, 'n stuff? (I only read back a page. Kathy's link to Sudo's story was helpful.) This new site takes some getting used to, but it seems to have some more powerful features. Now if I can just find a "Green Lantern" avatar, or maybe the whole "Justice League." George

No so easy, I guess. George

"The Blues Brothers"? George

Just in case anyone's checking, Lucy and I are back. No damge to home whatsoever. George

My wife and I got back today after evacuating to La Grange (near Austin). Though our trip wasn't as harrowing as Mr. P's, what should have been a two-and-a-half-hour trip took nine hours. (And my car has essentially no A/C.) Houston's mayor wanted to show that he wasn't an idiot like New Orleans', so he pretty much told EVERYBODY to evacuate, demonstrating that he was, in fact, a completely different kind of idiot. People in NW Houston were evacuating, blocking roads that people who were actually in danger needed to use. Our kids (in Houston) had the good sense to stay put. Had the storm come in right over Freeport, our house would have been bombed, but the kids would have been fine. Good news: absolutely no damage to our home. In fact, I think the electricity only winked out for a short time. Now to get those boards off the windows! George

If you played all the time in college (not just one season), then you "played regularly as an amateur, non-national player, for fun." (If you played each year in DIFFERENT sports, you still PLAYED each year.) If you DIDN'T play all the time, then it would be similar to Junior Varsity and fit there. (Yes, that means busting your hump in JV for 4 years and never making it to the Varsity team counts as the "played regularly" option. You worked as hard as the Varsity team.) Fine. I voted "played regularly." George

The last major hurricane to hit here was Alicia in 1983. I was at the Rock at the time. By the time I came back, everything was fine. Rita may strengthen, even to category 5; but it will almost certainly be no stronger than a 3 at landfall. The water at this end of the gulf is never as hot as on the Florida side. On the other hand, unless the projections take a decided southward look, Lucy and I will evacuate on Thursday. George

Well, don't come to the Texas coast this weekend! I'll probably evacuate on Thursday, unless the projections show a definite trend to the south coast. George

See?? EASY! You're up, Raf, unless you want to give it back to Tom, who appears to have resurfaced (a little too conveniently, I think). George
-
So close...so damn close... Better guess it quick before I have to pack up and evacuate! george

Pick 1 from row A and 2 from row B. (Though you aren't spelling "row B" right.) George

I agree with the chef. Let's see some pics! George

How about intramural (college) sports? I played on my fraternity's softball, football, soccer, and volleyball teams. I don't find a good equivalent in your poll (maybe JV?). George
-
The first picture IS the clue. Maybe it's just too big! George
-
Then win the war and get back here! George
-
Okay. Do you recognize the movie that the second picture comes from? Add (part of) that to the first clue adn I'm sure you'll get it. George
-
Come on, guys, this is easy. George P.S. The previous picture I had for my last clue was unceremoniously replaced with a bad word by whoever owns the site the picture came from. Hopefully, none of you were offended.

How strong the high pressure over LA remains will determine whether Rita hits Texas or Mexico. Obviously, I'd prefer the latter. (Anything south of Victoria would probably be okay for me, but let's get off that Houston heading!) George

Yeah, Samurai, welcome! Your post sounded so much like one of George Aar's that I didn't even notice your screen name! (George uses the same avatar.) George
-
Actually, I was thrown by your comment that it was a bad show! BTVS was actually rather clever, and, yes, did have some good-looking young ladies. It was definitely better than the movie version, though Kristy Swanson is rather easy on the eyes, too! George
-
I don't know much about Neil Young's guitar skills, but his voice gives me the same reaction as fingernails on a blackboard! George

Correct. Note that the Grand Funk Railroad version had different words for this verse, so I wouldn't have given credit for it. George
