  1. Not made of green cheese but ... PAPER?? The jazz band I play with does a version of this as well. George And while I'm a fan of Benny Goodman, I always thought Artie Shaw was better. :D
  2. Actually, the bride and groom were married in Milan a couple weeks ago. (My cousin is Italian. She's been living in the US for a few years now.) They're just having a reception in Florida for the non-jet-setters among us. More to the point: what's the likelihood that the reception will be held in a hurricane shelter? George
  3. The last four lines seem vaguely familiar, but I can't place it. I think part of the problem is that we seem to be losing players. Belle? Sharon? Others? George
  4. Okay, here's the deal. I have a wedding reception to attend in Sarasota on Saturday, so I plan to fly into Tampa on Friday and leave Sunday. How far south does the storm have to go to leave Sarasota relatively safe? (I don't mind a bunch of rain, but I won't be there if there's a likely problem from storm surge or high wind.) Is there a "clean side" to a storm in Florida? The south and west sides of storms hitting the Texas shoreline are much better than the north and east sides, due to the counterclockwise rotation of the storm.. For example, Rita brought only a little rain and minimum hurricane force winds to my home south of Houston; but Louisiana got hit pretty hard. I have a feeling that because Florida is so narrow there is no "clean" side. George
  5. That was one. The other (a bit obscure) is the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Okay, I'm done. (Before Chatty Kathy starts calling me "Mr. Focused" again.) George
  6. I don't know about disinterest (though I have seen a drop-off in posts on this thread as well as Name that Tune and Movie Pictionary), it could be that no one knows the movie! Without googling, all I know is that it's an old movie about a submarine. In fact, when you mentioned a special effects oscar nomination, I thought of "Ice Station Zebra"; but that's too recent (mid-60's as I recall). So, how about "Sink the Bismark"? George
  7. Here's another: Syracuse Orangemen. Or are they the "Orange" now for PC purposes? Either way, it still works. There are at least two more I can think of. George
  8. Ah, yes. another acrostic. I should have realized that there was a reason for all those ramblings about Greek gods. I just assumed you knew it from "give them a hand"! George And I have no idea what WordWolf's song is.
  9. I (finally) saw it yesterday. I thought it was very well done, with all the characters in keeping with their roles in the series. SPOILER ALERT!! I was sad to see the "Shepherd" die, though his was a very minor role in the film. It was especially sad to see "Wash" die. I really enjoyed his relationship with his wife. I guess that viewers of the movie who hadn't seen the series wouldn't have felt the same way, not being as emotionally invested in the characters. Too bad they couldn't have added a couple of "red-shirt" characters to kill off, instead! George
  10. HELLO!!! Quiz here! I realize that this might go better in the Sports forum, but you guys should be able to get SOME of these. Here's another to get you thinking: Crimson Tide Fighting Illini George
  11. Actually, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised to find that most (or all) of these quirks occur in other "civilized" nations, as well! George
  12. Fine, WW. Since I'm sure you meant "Apocalypse Now," you may post a puzzle. George
  13. "Session 3" by V.P. Wierwille? ;) George And of course, Runaround Sue was correct. I bet Pirate would have gotten the others, too. Where you been, bro?
  14. Linda sort of beat me to the punch; but, yes, effect is used as a verb (though infrequently) as in "to effect a change." (I see it a lot in technical journals.) Affect as a noun is pretty much obsolete. George Note also that when a word is used as the word itself and not for what it represents, then it should be italicized or underlined.
  15. This reminds me of a trivia question: how many NCAA (Division I) teams can you name whose team name DOESN'T end in "s"? Crimson Tide (Alabama) is one. George
  16. You've got all the words within your two tries. Of course, you'll have to "bend" the sounds a bit to get the title. George
  17. Sheeesh!! That was "Gitarzan" by Ray Stevens. Try THIS: I miss her lips, and the smile on her face The touch of her and hand and the girl's warm embrace. George
  18. As Ala suggested, "The Scent of a Woman" had (Al Pacino and) a great tango, but this wan't it. George
  19. It got a LOT of play when it came out (late '60's). One of the best "novelty" songs from a master of the genre. Moony PM'ed me to tell me the answer but that she's too busy studying to post the next clue. Raf apparently knows, but he's not telling. If no one else pipes in, I'll try ANOTHER song tomorrow. George
  20. Don't feel bad, Kiddo! I have no idea what they're talking about, either! George
  21. Still not getting it. Sorry. :( George
  22. All right. I'll post another one, then. George
  23. Let's see... Girl named Jane Has a monkey Plays guitar George
  24. I can't believe that Raf and I are the only ones who know this, Here's another verse, making it even EASIER: He's got a girl named Jane with no last name Kinda homely and plain but he loves her just the same Cuz she kindles a flame and it drives him insane When he hears her sing, she really does her thing It's her claim to fame, come on, sing one Jane George
