As long as we're posting pictures, I want to make an unabashed plug for some other threads that Nostalgians would probably like and be good at. These are the "Name That Tune," "Name That Flick," and "Movie Pictionary" threads. The first two are straightforward: You give a line from a song or movie, and the others guess it. The winner gets to pick the next song or film. The song has to be one that had air time on the radio, and the film can't be a made-for-TV special. And "googling" is NOT ALLOWED! (It would be far too easy simply to enter the line into a search engine. With Movie Pictionary, one posts the title of a movie in picture form, using internet pictures, the way others have posted pictures in this thread. It doesn't have to be a word-for-word presentation of the title, but when sounded out, the title should be apparent. Here's one I did that I thought was fairly clever, to give you a feel for the game: The correct guesser then posts the next puzzle. We really need new blood in that thread. It seems as if only Raf and I are playing. :( (If you don't recognize the men in the photos, I might give more clues later.) George P.S. I'm not trying to hijack THIS thread. I'd love to revel in Illinois' defeat of North Carolina today, but the two teams only bear a slight resemblance to last year's championship teams. Well, okay, I HAVE seen some of "The Deer Hunter"; but I doubt I've seen the beginning (where the music probably would be heard). I actually met one of the (bit part) actresses from the film. She was a cousin of Don Brunelle (9th Corps); I met her at his wedding. George

If he's reasonably techno-capable, an iPod or equivalent might be good. He could put more music on it than he'll ever listen to. George

Thanks for the clip, CK. Didja ever notice how most of the TV themes that actually got air time on the radio were cop shows? Right off the bat, I can think of Hawaii 5-0, the Rockford Files, and Hill Street Blues; and I imagine there are others I could think of with a little time. George

Yeah. "Moose" was a giveaway, since it clearly wasn't Bullwinkle! I'm thinking that the show that starred an old SNL star also starred the co-star of "McMillan and Wife." Since Katerine Helmond only starred in "Who's the Boss" and one other show, it was the other one. At least now I understand Sudo's clue. Since Kathy mentioned that she had tried to post the "Rockford Files" theme, I'm wondering if that's what she meant by the star having appeared in a movie with Sally Field. Of course, it's possible that one of the many stars of the actual show in question starred with SF in a movie, as well. George

Kathy's doofy little theme song is driving me nuts! (A rather short drive, I might add.) I know I've seen teh show, probably many times; but I just can't place it. And Kathy's and Sudo's clues don't help. Rick's songs come up on my iTunes with title and artist, so there's no point in guessing. Actually, the last one with the guitar solo didn't give anything away, and I have no idea who did it! Pachelbel's Canon was one of the songs Lucy and I had played at our wedding. As a recessional, we used John Philip Sousa's "American Wedding March." I dare you to find a clip of THAT! I think our wedding may have been the first performance of the piece in seventy years.
