Before Sudo goes crazy, his song is "Stranger on the Shore," with Acker Bilk playing solo clarinet. I'M BAAAACKK! George

That's Judy Dench, but I can't figure out the movie. George

I believe Dreamer is correct. Perhaps a passing nod from Mr. Strange? George

I don't understand what Kathy is confused about. The show, obviously, is the Mary Tyler Moore Show. The singers of this version appear when I open the link, so Joan Jett isn't a secret either. I'll be on vacation for a week. Try not to miss me TOO much! George

The fountain isn't the clue. WHERE is the fountain? I'm heading off for vacation. I'll PM Raf with the answer. Dooj is somewhat close. George

The only time we have free is Saturday night. I'm also staying Sunday night due to the scarcity of good flights. Not ideal hummingbird watching time. The NCB AND the convention were in Normal two years ago. Definitely a quiet town, especially when school's out. I was able to get some old friends from U of Illinois to come to that concert, though, so it wa a good time. (And I spent time in Chicago with my brothers and sisters, too.) George

All wonderful versions, though I can't place any of the voices. The last might be William Warfield, but I don't know about his being a Communist. I'm disappointed that none of the versions included my favorite verse: Methuselah lived 900 years. Methuselah lived 900 years. But who calls that livin' When no gal would give in To no man what's 900 years. George

At least! George

Of course, Bobby Darin is most famous for that song, and Louis Armstrong had a hit with it, too. Ella actually forgot some of the words and was making up lyrics on the fly: "Bobby and Louis made a record; Ella and her fellas made a wreck!" Gotta love it. George

If I have this straight, Paw got Tom's clue, and Sharon got Paw's. I believe Sharon's is "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence. George

In my younger years (say, pre-25), I probably would have done the same thing the truck driver did. In my bolder years, I would have thought, "What the heck" and asked you out. Maybe you need that boldness, too. If you make the first move, you can set the ground rules. If there's a spark there, go for it. (Of course, as many have pointed out, don't be an idiot!) George And you're so hot, I'M having trouble thinking!

The "National Community Band," made up of community band members from around the country, will perform "Sousa on the Strip," a band concert in the style of John Philip Sousa, this Sunday afternoon (7/23) at 3:30 PM at the Judy Bayley Theater on the campus of UNLV. I've been a member of the National Community Band ever since its inception 22 years ago. (I play baritone saxophone.) The band is organized in conjunction with the biennial National Band Association convention, though this year the actual convention was in Normal, IL, last month. Band members receive the music in May to work on individually, and then there is a series of intense rehearsals of the whole band right before the concert. (This year, we have a rehearsal Friday night, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday before the performance!) The concert should be excellent. The selections look fun (lots of marches, of course, and other Sousa Pieces, but also overtures and solo pieces); and we have a lot of great musicians and a top-notch conductor. All we need is an audience. So, be there! It will be too hot to do anything else, anyway. And, before I forget ... IT'S FREE!!! George

This is my favorite Ella song. Oddly, it was her only Top 40 hit. Ella George I'm not getting the link to post right, but if you click this link you can click the little speaker icon and play it.
