  1. This was the first NBC show to air five days a week. It was also the first show ever to air 1000 episodes. One of the main roles was performed by a few different actors. One, when fired from the show for the SECOND time, went on to star in another show (for which he is arguably better known). George
  2. He played for the Reds from 1937 to 1949, followed by a short stint with the Cubs. His two no-hitters were in 1938. (Incidentally, the second no-hitter was the first night game at Ebbets Field.) I'll give it a couple more days. George
  3. I'm confused. This is "Three Movies or Three Actors," not "Name that Actor/Actress or Role." These seem to be roles by an actress. George
  4. "Sunny Afternoon" by the Kinks? George
  5. I suppose that POWs in a Nazi war camp is not the most likely idea for a comedy. I'm a member of a (traditionally) Jewish fraternity, ZBT. About 45 years ago I got a letter from Robert Clary exhorting Jewish people not to make light of the Holocaust. That seemed odd to me, since his and (to that point, anyway) Dawson's claim to fame was acting in a show making light of Nazi horrors. Of course, it's not as if I haven't done things that I've been ashamed of, afterwards. George
  6. Hogan's Heroes? I know that Richard Dawson and Robert Clary are Jewish. I don't know about Werner Klemperer, but he would have been old enough to have been alive during WWII. George
  7. No, this was an earlier, National League pitcher. Interestingly, one of his teammates, a few years later, threw a no-hitter and then eight no-hit innings in back-to-back starts, but lost the second no-hitter in the ninth inning. The pitcher had some good years and some bad. Four All-Star appearances and one World Series, but only a 119-121 won-lost record overall. He was one of only six NL pitchers to lead the league in strikeouts three years in a row. He is in his team's Hall of Fame, but not the MLB Hall of Fame. He is really only remembered for the back-to-back no-hitters. George
  8. So, does this mean that these are backstories of the characters, or roles played by the actors on other series? George
  9. John Travolta Urban Cowboy Barry Corbin George
  10. YES!!! Woody Allen plays a character who sort of morphs into whatever group he happens to come across. I was almost going to write that he might have been Durlan or Martian. George
  11. I'm assuming those aren't movie titles, but I don't recognize a single name. George
  12. I can almost hear it. Female vocal, but not 5th Dimension or Mamas and Papas. George
  13. My Girl "Here she comes, just a-walkin' down the street." George
  14. A decade before "Forrest Gump," this movie put its star in a number of real scenes from the 1920s and 1930s. Unlike FG, this movie was in the form of a documentary. The cinematographer had had some acclaim for his work on "The Godfather," but this film produced his first Oscar nomination. Silent screen legend, Lillian Gish, was filmed for a scene in this movie. She scolded director of photography, Gordon Willis, on his lighting set-up and, while the crew watched aghast, gave Willis step by step instructions on how to re-light the scene. Willis complied. The scene did not make it into the final version of the film. The star is quite famous, for good and bad reasons. This is one of his lesser-known films As with many of his other movies, the star wrote and directed. George

  17. "Sweet Pea." Let's try again: "Just take those old records off the shelf." Georg
