A Trojan virus allows someone else access to her computer. It's a lot more serious than someone simply posting junk under the name Doojable. George

Not quite. To accuse FALSELY someone of rape, etc., is slander (unless it's in a written medium, in which case it's libel). Even then, to prosecute someone for slander or libel requires that the alleged slander involve malicious intent. If someone is simply mistaken, his comments cannot be construed as slander. George

I know I'll need another quote or two. And now I've got to figure out whom Tom considers the female Keanu Reaves! :) George

I guess that the next time I drop in on somebody around breakfast time, I'd better bring tap shoes. Never know when they'll be required! George

Go ahead. I googled the line. I do remember the scene, but it wasn't Dustin Hoffman in "Kramer vs. Kramer"; it was Al Pacino in.... George

Perhaps you live on an alternate earth with a different set of definitions. A crime is an act committed or omitted in violation of a law forbidding it or commanding it and for which punishment is imposed upon conviction. (American Heritage Dictionary, 2nd ed.) The fact that someone is not punished for a crime does not mean that the act was not criminal. Murders and robberies go unsolved. Battery and rape go unpunished because the victim was intimidated or ashamed. They're still crimes, in THIS USA. George

I didn't say that I didn't get (or send) PM's. I just don't seem to be part of the "underground" here. And if the tongue-in-cheek wasn't obvious, I really don't feel like using PM's as a back-biting tool. George

WD, Although it would be swell to catch all crimes on videotape, it just doesn't work that way. If someone is raped in a back alley, is it not a crime because there were no witnesses other than the victim? George

Well, someday, maybe. I hope he spends another year at Illinois. George

Gee, now I feel as though I'm missing out on all the underground PM-ing! Either no one cares what I think, or it's all about me! :D George

It is. Go, Raf! George

Well, THAT was unpleasant! USC played a great game. Even if all the goofy ball hops hadn't gone their way, and if the Illini hadn't fumbled the ball twice inside the USC 5, Southern Cal would probably have won. It should have been a lot closer, though. It's a long wait until next season, but at least I have something to look forward to, unlike the last few years. I think the Illini will have lost the element of surprise, though. George

Name that Star Trek Episode

DS9, obviously. I remember a time travel episode, where Sisko replaces an activist who was killed. I don't know if that's enough info. (I thibnk it was the one where Dax is also lost back in the same time period. Kira and O'Brien eventully find them.) George -

Name that TV Show [EZ quotes only]

You got it, Sharon! Nice to see you around here again! George -
Buddy Ebsen's longevity was particularly impressive, considering he nearly died in the production of "The Wizard of Oz." Originally cast as the Tin Man, the "costume" they used was basically sprayed-on aluminum powder. He nearly died from inflammation of the lungs. He was replaced by Jack Haley (whose makeup was fortunately of a different composition) without much fanfare. George

I would have to concur that Suda has it. I'll be gone most of today, so I can wait for her to post. George

"We're here to say goodbye to a cherished friend: Lamont, the goldfish." "I've always felt safe with him around." "So you don't want another child?" "There's times that I don't even want the ones we have." "Where are you going dressed like that?" "School." "What? Is it scarecrow day?" George -
There are two kinds of people at GS Those that group people into two categories, and those that don't. Seriously, there are a lot of "flavors" of GS-ers, and as many past (and present) experiences with TWI. There are those who were physically abused. There are those who knew someone who was physically abused. There are those who heard of physical abuse. There are those who never heard of it and definitely never saw it. I was one of the last group (at least until I was here for a while), so I understand why some people have difficulty believing that stuff like that happened. In fact, even after being here, I asked many the Corps women I know what their experiences were in regard to sexual predation by leadership. Only one of then had a second-hand story that another Corps woman told her about advances from a Limb leader. I suspect that Pond is in the last category also. Howbeit, I do not discount the accounts from Rascal, Excathedra, and others. They have no reason to lie, and it's clear that they have suffered much. And more power to them for continuing to post, if it stops a single "innie" lurker from being preyed upon, or if it helps anyone else who suffered in like manner to heal. This post refers specifically to sexual abuses, but the categorization and analysis can be taken more generally as well. If you never suffered having your life micro-managed, or you never had to do things you belived were wrong for fear of being ostracized, then good for you! But don't call those who were so wronged liars or whiners. Somebody may be helped by thier accounts, even if it isn't you. George
