  1. The first line doesn't ring a bell, but the second almost has to be from "Blazing Saddles." George
  2. My father was born in 1922, and my mother in 1929, so they were both pretty young during the Depression. Both were from reasonably well-to-do families, so they didn't suffer much hardship, but they were both quite frugal. Dad was quite fond of, shall we say, less-elegant meals, like pigs' knuckles and greens. He would also fix as much as he could. What little I know about car repair, I learned from him. Of course, that was back when you could look under the hood of a car and actually FIND things, and you didn't have to replace the whole rear of your car when a tail light burned out! :) My Grandfather (Dad's dad) really hated Roosevelt, mostly due to his (Roosevelt's) idiotic fiscal policies. He would always refer to him as "Franklin DELL' ANO Roosevelt." ("From the anus," for you non-Italians!) George

  4. Dancing at the Blue Iguana Jennifer Tilly Bound George
  5. "That's an ANIMATED Cat! You have an ANIMATED CAT in the squad room!!" "Yeah, that's Lt. Whiskers. He'll be here tomorrow, too. What's your point?" George
  6. Not my no.1, either. To me, two beautiful women making out with each other is a waste of two beautiful women. Now, both of them with ME... George
  7. I'm guessing that WW won't mind my adding a clue: the movie starred Danny Kaye. George
  8. So, A-Rod has joined the "600 Club." When I was a kid, the only player with more than 600 homers was Babe Ruth, who had retired long before. In my early teens, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron joined the group. So it remained for another thirty years. In the last decade, there have been four more (with a couple more in striking distance). The "Steroid Era"? I think only Ken Griffey, Jr., is the only newbie without (known) steroid taint. A pity, I think. George
  9. I always preferred the term "Personnel." "Human Resources" reminds me of "Soylent Green"! George
  10. I don't wish a brain tumor on anyone. But THAT's FUNNY! George
  11. As I said, I might well have seen it. Now that I know the movie and who said the lines, I can get a (dim) mind picture of it. If the scene is that famous, I'm sure someone else will chime in. And we all have different "movie histories." I,for one, have only seen about 30 minutes of "Gone with the Wind." George
  12. I finally googled this. I may, indeed, have seen it, on some old movie station or another. I doubt any "kids" will get it, though, since it was made before I was born! George
  13. My only direct contact with DM was at the Word in Business, I think in 1996. It was the Saturday evening "Do." On my way into the dance hall, I had seen LCM heading back into the hotel proper. Since DM was unattended, I thought she might like to dance, and I asked her. She immediately looked around to find another young lady to dance with me, assuring me that there were plenty to choose from! Maybe she thought it wouldn't have been proper for someone in her "station"; but I honestly think she was just trying to bless me. As a sidenote: in those days, I simply assumed that LCM was headed to the hotel for ministry business. Now I wonder if it was "funny business." George
  14. You clearly know the movie. So feel free to chime in if no one else gets it. Actually, I think my FAVORITE quote was: "Even with all this accumulated knowledge, when will these dummies learn to use a doorknob?" George
  15. Sadly, no. Though I reserve the right to hate myself once it's been revealed. George
  16. Okay, maybe that LINE was a bit obscure, but the movie isn't. Here's another brief exchange from the same film: "What am I gonna do with you people, huh? I held up my end; I delivered the Blue Boy… What do I get for my triple threat? "Bow! Yield! Kneel!" That kind of stuff closes out of town." "Why do you say this to me… when you know I will kill you for it?" George
  17. Did Abbott and Costello ever meet Robin Hood? That "purple pimpernel" business seems familiar, but I can't place it. And the "Get it--Got it--Good" routine is also familiar, but maybe that's because Burns and Schreiber used it a lot. George
  18. "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan (with back-up vocal by John Lennon) All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey... George
  19. Human might be right, but I've seen two versions of "The Three Musketeers," and I don't remember those lines from either of them. This seems more "spoofy." I'm going to guess "To Be or Not to Be." George
  20. Human, There are a lot of great, old movies; but most of them aren't really suited to this thread, as very few of us have seen them. Unless it was a real blockbuster like "Gone with the Wind" or frequently quoted like "Casablanca," it's not likely to be remembered from one line. Something like "Tea and Sympathy" is better suited to "Name that Flick," where several lines can (and should) be given. Even there, though, you're likely to "stump the panel" with any movie made before 1960 (or 1970!). Let's try this one: "General, would you like to step outside?" George
  21. Unlike the Marley tune, this one seems at least vaguely familiar; but I'm still not getting it from one line! George
