A young man in my fellowship has shown interest in doing a S.O.W.E.R.S. stint. I have no personal acquaintance with the program, though there has been enough press here at Greasespot that I cautioned him against it. Our local leader couldn't advise him one way or the other, because he didn't have enough information. The young man asked me if I knew of any alternatives. There have been a few people from our area who have gone to Idaho for D@N@ Armstrong's program, and were happy with it. Are there any other programs out there that I could recommend? Obviously, they don't have to be TWI-derived (in fact, it's probably better if they aren't); but something with a strong Trinitarian bent won't work either. Any ideas? George

Sounds like a FOX cartoon. "Family Guy"? George -
Well put, Gen-2. Paul,in the context of giving and receiving, pointed out that he knew how to be abased AND to abound. I think that TWI's leadership (and that of many other churches, make no mistake about that) have decided that only the abounding part is worthwhile; and, by God, it's the laity's responsibility to make that happen! Actually, LCM had begun the de-Wierwilleization of TWI, and that was before any significant outside knowledge of VPW's sins came to light. I just think it's easier for Rosie to cement her own power, given that LCM's foibles are well-known. George -
I actually did quite well on the test. (Human, at least when I took the AC, there was a test you had to take before registering. It tested your understanding indoctrination in areas of PFAL and other classes. Your response seems to indicate that the test was done away with in later years.) It's funny, actually, because I purposely "threw" some answers about the Trinity. I knew what answer was "correct," but I wasn't certain in my own mind at that time. As I understand it, "Jesus Christ Is not God" was a weak spot for MANY applicants that year ('79), which is why VPW hit the subject so hard in that AC. George

I was thinking of that movie, too. I just couldn't remember the title. George

Obviously a fairly new show, but not one I've seen. George -
What's more important than Way-bashing? I spend a lot of time in the game threads in the Greasespot Gallery and Reading Room. If you're thick-skinned, try Politics 'n Tacks. Oh, and when I left, I thought it was just a problem with megalomaniacal leaders. All the scandal stuff I learned about later. George

Of course. Go ahead! George

You got kicked out by the BOD? I'm impressed! With me, it was just my Branch Coordinator (with the Limb Coordinator on the phone). George -

Indeed it is. Although this past season was supposed to be the last, it will be back next fall by popular demand. George -

I'd be amazed if there isn't a photo of one on this site somewhere. In short, it was the sign-up card for Power for Abundant Living (Foundational Class). One side had your personal information on it; the other had a list of purported benefits from taking the class. I even had a poster-sized one for many years, used at demonstrations. George

Didn't the original Mormon elders ordain each other, because there were "no true leaders" out there to confer the authority? George

I was brought up RC, and was fairly active in the campus RC church when I was in grad school. I was witnessed to, decided that I did need to learn more about the Bible, and went to fellowship. The logic and heart of the teachings kept me. Again, this was the late 70's, when things were still "good." George
