  1. I invite any of you who have not done so yet to look at the offerings in the Movies, Music, Books, Art Forum. As well as threads discussing various art forms (including TV), there are a number of game threads to pass the time and maybe to get to know other 'spotters a bit better. I have posted a thread, pinned at the top of the forum, explaining how the games are played. (The two basic rules are: the person who answers the current puzzle correctly gets to post the next one, and no googling to get an answer. The games are tests of memory, not search engine skill.) :) These threads used to have about twenty contributors. Now, there are three die-hards and two or three occasional players. Drop in, and give it a try. After all, there's more to life than pointing out TWI's flaws! George
  2. It wasn't Boris Karloff. Bobby Pickett used a Karloff like voice and even used the nickname "Borey". Human, you're up. George
  3. I thought of Sigourney Weaver, but she played Gwen DEMARCO in "Galaxy Quest," not Gwen SUNDAY. I expect that there will be at least one at the end of this, but I'm not getting any ideas. George
  4. Correct. This show lasted 10 seasons. Of the five main characters, only three appeared in all 250 episodes. One of the stars was fired after seven seasons due to cocaine addiction. Gavin McLeod, Bernie Kopell, and Ted Lange appeared in all of the episodes. Lauren Tewes developed a coke addiction and was fired for frequently not showing up for work. The series was based on a novel by Jeraldine Saunders. This series was based upon Jeraldine Saunders novel titled, "The Love Boats". She wrote the book from her personal observations while serving as a hostess on a cruise ship. Dick van Patten played the lead character in the TV-movie pilot, but due to his starring in "Eight Is Enough," he could not play the role in the series. Two of the stars were well-known from roles in earlier sitcoms. After the show, one of the stars was a US Congressman and CEO of Goodwill Industries. Gavin McLeod was famous for his role in the Mary Tyler Moore show; Bernie Kopell had recurring roles in Get Smart and Bewitched. Grandy has had a very successful career out of show business. George
  5. That worked for me, too. I hope we see more of them. George

  7. Sorry. By George, I think she's got it! George
  8. Sorry. I forgot that you might be seeing Supergirl late, as well, though if you've seen part of the first episode, you would have seen almost everything I mentioned. George
  9. It would appear that you have succeeded. :) George
  10. Supergirl: Likes: the star. Makes a believable neophyte heroine. the costume. Except for the lack of yellow in the "S," very traditional Cat Grant. An interesting take on this character, who has had a number of manifestations in the comics Dislikes: "National City." Where did THAT come from? I can see why you don't want to use Metropolis (you'd have to see SuperCuz all the time); but this one sounds TOO made up (falling just ahead of "The City" from the Tick). In the comics, Supergirl did a stint in Chicago; that could have worked. JAMES Olsen. I've got no problem with a black Jimmy Olsen, but I prefer my Jimmys small, wide-eyed, and "Jeepers"-ish. Bow-ties a must. :) Astra: The comics never had a twin sister for Alura, so why introduce one as a villain? Of course, now you only need one actress to play Kara's mom AND aunt... KARA Danvers. What's wrong with "Linda"? They didn't revamp Superman as KAL Kent. And a brunette wig would help sell the secret identity. the world having TWO heroes now. This IS a DC product. Even if you don't plan to include Flash, Green Arrow, etc., there's no reason not to allude to them. I'm still undecided about the step-sister and the variations on the DEO, Hellgrammite, etc. In general, I do enjoy the show. The pacing is good, with a reasonable mix of action and relationship stuff. George Other
  11. Although we have a Flash thread, I thought I'd start one to cover comments on all of the super-hero shows, since there are so many of them, now. I would include: Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Supergirl, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. If the Daredevil Netflix show is still running, that would be fine, too. (I haven't seen it.) If I'm forgetting any, feel free to add. I would not include super-hero-ish shows like Limitless. I'm also thinking of this thread for commentary on current shows, so none of the various Superman shows, etc., would be included. There are only a handful of us in this forum, so feel free to "change the rules," if you think it will draw more interest. George
  12. This was the first (originally) full-length movie about this particular character, although some serials from 1940 were combined to make a full-length feature. 29 copies of the hero's car were cobbled together from old '64, '65, and '66 Chrysler Imperials. Three of them survived the movie's production. George
  13. Agreed. Sadly, my DVR did not record the episode that just aired; but I have a lady friend who records things for me as a backup, so I'll get to see it this weekend. George

  15. What always struck me as odd about the family/household distinction is that the "household" was not the closest members of the family (as taught by TWI), it was everyone who dwelt in the house, including the servants. George
  16. I, I love the colorful clothes she wears And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair I hear the sound of a gentle word On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air [Chorus, which repeats the title about four times] Close my eyes She's somehow closer now Softly smile, I know she must be kind When I look in her eyes She goes with me to a blossom world George
