I imagine it's a little late for a "Cone of Harvey," though our friends in Louisiana might think otherwise. I've been able to avoid the devastation which has hit thousands of people in Houston and Corpus Christi. In my part of Pearland, there have been no utility outages. The streets have flooded, but no homes in danger. (There are no rivers/creeks/bayous in this area. Eastern Pearland has had some more significant flooding.) I haven't been able to leave since Friday, but I've got enough food for at least two to three days, and I expect to be able to get out tomorrow sometime. I'm thankful that it's only been an annoyance, here, not a disaster. I'd use an emoticon, but none of them seem appropriate. George

I learned bridge when I was young. My parents played, and when my maternal grandmother would visit, we would play. Eventually all my brothers and sisters and the next-door neighbor family played. I played a bit in college and grad school, and for a year or two after starting work in Texas. Haven't played in several years, but I suspect I could hold my own (if you don't confuse me with all of the different bidding conventions). George

"Idiocracy" was pretty funny. I suppose I cold go on a tangent in this thread, with movies that I just stumbled upon (bored, and it came on on cable) that were delightful surprises. I would put "The Princess Bride" in this category, as well. A number of people told me how wonderful it was, but from their descriptions, it seemed rather dorky. One weekend, it seemed as though every network was running it 24/7, so I just sucked it up, and watched it. Now one of my favorites. You know those stick on name tags you get at meetings, which say "Hello, My name is" (and you fill in your name)? I bought a T-shirt for my stepson that had one, silkscreened on, which said, "Hello, My name is Inego Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." George

If it's on cable and I have nothing else to watch, I'll watch a superhero flick, again. I've actually only seen "Green Lantern" about four times. George

I don't know about any movies I watch several times a year, but I watched "Mary Poppins" a gazillion times when I was young. Some others I've seen many times: "The Incredible Mr. Limpet," "The Princess Bride," "Sleeper," "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" and "Amazon Women on the Moon." (No, Raf -- not "Traxx.") George

I don't know. When Sean Penn first hit the scene in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," it would have been easy to get typecast into burnout roles; but he went from there to a military school cadet in "TAPS" and a street thug in "Bad Boys." I was impressed with his versatility. George

Her voice and appearance were, perhaps, more suited for comedy, but I agree. Goldie was a fine dramatic actress, as well. George

This show, which lasted 11 years, debuted dead last in the Nielsen ratings. There were two spin-offs from the show. One lasted 11 years; the other, less than one season. One of the actors had so much trouble remembering his lines that he had them written down all around the set. (Note: Marilyn Monroe did essentially the same thing on the set of "Some Like it Hot"; John Hamilton did something similar on "The Adventures of Superman" (the papers "Perry White" always had in his hands had his lines on them). The original source material for this movie involves an American Air Force pilot being rescued from a crash by an island girl, during WWII. Apparently, WWII was too morally unambiguous for today's Hollywood (can't have America be the good guys, after all), so the movie is set in WWI, and the pilot, though an American, is working as a spy for the British.
