No. Due to the grueling five-shows-a-week schedule, the expense and the difficulty of video editing in those days, most scenes were shot in a single take. Actors and actresses routinely flubbed their lines and searched for the teleprompter, set pieces collapsed, props malfunctioned, crew members walked into shots, microphones and secondary cameras got in the way, and it all wound up being preserved, because the production team figured each episode would only be seen one time. This was the first daily soap opera to be offered in syndication. Visual effects were very costly for a daytime soap opera. In order to keep within the budget, the show's creator, Dan Curtis, decreed that no more than five characters could appear in a single episode (this was occasionally relaxed for sweeps-week episodes, in which major plot twists took place). Thayer David holds the record for playing the most characters in this series. He portrayed Matthew Morgan #2, Ben Stokes (in 1795), Professor Timothy Eliot Stokes, Sandor Rakosi (in 1897), Count Petofi (also in 1897), Quentin Collins (his mind in Petoffi's body, also in 1897), Stokes (Parallel Time), aged Professor Stokes (1995), aged Ben Stokes and farmer Mordecai Grimes (both in 1840), and aged Ben Stokes (Parallel Time, 1841). After producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff became interested in the script, they offered the scriptwriter an unprecedented $350,000 for the rights. He had $106 in the bank, no car, and was trying to sell his dog because he couldn't afford to feed it, but he refused to sell unless they agreed to allow him to star in the film. They agreed, on the condition that he continue to work as a writer without a fee, and that he work as an actor for scale. After Winkler and Chartoff purchased the film, they took it to United Artists, who envisioned a budget of $2 million with an established star, particularly Robert Redford, Ryan O'Neal, Burt Reynolds, or James Caan. When Winkler and Chartoff told United Artists that they could only get the screenplay if the writer starred, United Artists cut the budget to $1 million, and had Chartoff and Winkler sign agreements that they would be personally liable if the film went over budget. The final cost was $1.1 million. Chartoff and Winkler mortgaged their houses for the last $100,000. The good news: they made a mint on it. It was the highest-grossing movie of the year. George

I'm not sure why I could cut and paste the first quotes without getting the space between the lines, but the later quotes didn't work that way. "Tell me where your friends are hiding." "I’ll never talk." "Is that right? Then let’s make it official." "I want it. I’ll make you a deal. If I get that thing started, it’s mine." "That’s no deal. That’s just you taking my car." "If I get it started, I keep it and I work here every day for a year. I’ll scrub the grease off the floors, okay? I will pick up and organize every scrap of paper in this place. I’ll even detail your horrible, disgusting toilets. Please. It’s my birthday." "Sorry, no deal. Because we ain’t hiring. -- It’s yours, kid. Happy birthday." "Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" "And my toilets are gorgeous." "The darkest nights produce the brightest stars." "You kissed me! "On the cheek." "Still counts....Still counts." "Please, this is a mistake!" "Stay cool, hold your fire." "I don't want to hurt anyone." "Who called in the Air Force?" "That's not the Air Force. Run!" George

Martin Short? George -
I'm finding this picture from the National Hurricane Center a bit disconcerting. In addition to Dorian, we have a disturbance SE of Texas with about a 50% chance of tropical development, and an even more likely storm coming off the coast of Africa. It is that time of year, I suppose. George

Or, this clue was just more obvious. BTW, I think it's cool that the autospell automatically adds the accent aigu to Pokémon. George

Still not sure. Apparently, he liked playing Roger Boisjoly, Arnold Teague, and Matt Duffy so much that he played them twice! George -

Dorian's a Cat 5 now, so even f it doesn't make landfall, there will be significant impact on the coastal areas. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers. George

How could I forget Colleen Camp as Yvette? The other quote seemed to fit, too. Was it an exchange between Martin Mull and Tim Curry? George

Most of the DCU starts the week of Oct. 5. Arrow starts a couple of weeks later. Legends starts midseason. (So will they be in the crossover?) Marvel will be running a sitcom starring Scarlet Witch and Vision, but it will be streaming on Disney+. Agents of SHIELD is over, as are the Netflix Marvel shows. George

Well, apparently Krypton has been cancelled. I guess we'll never know what happens with Brainiac and baby Jor-El. Lobo spinoff on hold, too. George
