  1. This show debuted in 1961 and continued until 1998. Shows with similar titles were occasionally used by the network as late as 2017. The person most often seen on the show was Vinko Bogatai. Though not a household name, the description of his performance is known to almost all. George
  2. The first of three movies starring James Garner and Julie Andrews. Garner said it was his favorite of all his movies. The only Julie Andrews film in black and white. The majority of the male main cast members who played U.S. Navy Officers or NCOs, James Garner, Melvyn Douglas, James Coburn, William Windom, Edward Binns, and Alan Sues, were U.S. Army veterans. Douglas served during World War I; Windom, Sues, and Binns served during World War II; and Garner and Coburn served during the Korean War. On the last day of shooting, James Garner broke two ribs after trying to dive over the camera during the D-Day landing scene with James Coburn. Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and this film were made at about the same time. Andrews was glad that it was released between the other two, to avoid her being typecast as straight-laced. The act described in the movie's title does not refer to one becoming a naturalized US citizen. It refers, rather, to a woman trading sexual favors for scarce wartime commodities. A line (Garner's character to Andrews's): "You American-haters bore me to tears, Ms. Barham. I've dealt with Europeans all my life. I know all about us parvenus from the States who come over here and race around your old cathedral towns with our cameras and Coca-Cola bottles... Brawl in your pubs, paw at your women, and act like we own the world. We overtip, we talk too loud, we think we can buy anything with a Hershey bar. I've had Germans and Italians tell me how politically ingenuous we are, and perhaps so. But we haven't managed a Hitler or a Mussolini yet. I've had Frenchmen call me a savage because I only took half an hour for lunch. Hell, Ms. Barham, the only reason the French take two hours for lunch is because the service in their restaurants is lousy. The most tedious lot are you British. We crass Americans didn't introduce war into your little island. This war, Ms. Barham to which we Americans are so insensitive, is the result of 2,000 years of European greed, barbarism, superstition, and stupidity. Don't blame it on our Coca-Cola bottles. Europe was a going brothel long before we came to town." George

  6. Then I have failed to produce a song remembered from one line. It is, however, one of the Monkees' greatest hits, so I thought it would be obvious. George

  18. Okay, time to make it obvious: The initial version of this show set a new record at the time - for the lowest ratings for a pilot. A re-edited version that featured two of the stars' original screen tests at the beginning scored one of the highest test ratings ever. Of the four stars, only two participated in all 58 episodes. One was written out of an episode so he could attend his sister's wedding; another was written out of three episodes; one while he recovered from a tonsillectomy, one when his son Jonathan was born, and one to make a family trip. Frank Zappa and Liberace appeared on separate episodes of the show. What they had in common was a golden sledgehammer. Liberace used it on his piano; Zappa on a car. One of the stars had been "Corky, the Circus Boy" on the show Circus Boy, in the late 50s. One of the stars was on the same Ed Sullivan show which was the first appearance of the Beatles. He had no idea who they were, but wanted to find out how they got the girls to scream like that. (They would, for him, eventually.) David Bowie changed his name to avoid confusion with one of the show's stars. George
