The first of three movies starring James Garner and Julie Andrews. Garner said it was his favorite of all his movies. The only Julie Andrews film in black and white. The majority of the male main cast members who played U.S. Navy Officers or NCOs, James Garner, Melvyn Douglas, James Coburn, William Windom, Edward Binns, and Alan Sues, were U.S. Army veterans. Douglas served during World War I; Windom, Sues, and Binns served during World War II; and Garner and Coburn served during the Korean War. On the last day of shooting, James Garner broke two ribs after trying to dive over the camera during the D-Day landing scene with James Coburn. George

I can think of movies with each of them, but not all of them. George

Okay, time to make it obvious: The initial version of this show set a new record at the time - for the lowest ratings for a pilot. A re-edited version that featured two of the stars' original screen tests at the beginning scored one of the highest test ratings ever. Of the four stars, only two participated in all 58 episodes. One was written out of an episode so he could attend his sister's wedding; another was written out of three episodes; one while he recovered from a tonsillectomy, one when his son Jonathan was born, and one to make a family trip. Frank Zappa and Liberace appeared on separate episodes of the show. What they had in common was a golden sledgehammer. Liberace used it on his piano; Zappa on a car. One of the stars had been "Corky, the Circus Boy" on the show Circus Boy, in the late 50s. One of the stars was on the same Ed Sullivan show which was the first appearance of the Beatles. He had no idea who they were, but wanted to find out how they got the girls to scream like that. (They would, for him, eventually.) David Bowie changed his name to avoid confusion with one of the show's stars. George

II Cor. 4:5: For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus's sake. To me, this is the heart of witnessing. Sadly, witnessing in TWI became preaching ourselves. Instead of reaching out to the person on the street to show him how Christ can meet his needs, we just invited him to come to our fellowship. If he came, he might learn something useful; but if not, we missed a chance to change his life. George

Pretty much all of the DC superhero shows are a blend of superhero action and soap opera. I prefer more action and less opera, but sometimes they achieve a good mix. I really enjoyed the latest S&L. No telling when any of you will watch it, but the title of the episode is "Holding the Wrench" (makes sense when you see it). George

Your paraphrase of Matt 23:2-3 is the way that most read it, but the Greek is a bit different. In Greek, the 2nd Person Plural Indicative Active has the same form as the 2nd Person Plural Imperative Active. Your reading assumes the imperative, i.e., a command: "Do as they say." But Jesus oftentimes took the Pharisees to task for what they said, as well as what they did. Using the indicative mood, it's more of a simple statement: "Because the scribes and Pharisees sit in Moses's seat, you do what they say." It would be like saying, "Because you believe VPW to be "the Man of God for Our Time," you do what he says. George

Hey, ExWay! Although this forum is dedicated to the arts, there's rather limited action, here. I would suggest starting again in the Open forum. Much wider audience. God bless, George

I just watched the video. Juedes's presentation seems a bit scattershot, maybe because he was trying to cover a lot of ground in a short time, but it certainly wouldn't be considered a "rant." I never believed that TWI was the only truth (which is probably why I got drummed out, years later). I remember a WOW asking me if I believed TWI was "God's ministry." I responded that I believed it was OF God, but not the only one out there. That was an acceptable answer in the early 80's, but not after Martindale took over. Branch adn Limb leaders had to acknowledge that Wierwille and Martindale were not infallible, but who was I to question what they had to say? I'm glad I took PFAL (Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced). I did learn a lot of biblical truth which I probably wouldn't have, otherwise. Over time, I could see that the group was more about obedience (to TWI) than devotion to God and His Son. One of the promises on "the Green Card" was that PFAL helped one separate truth from error. It took a while, but it did come to pass. George

I should know this one. But it's not coming to me. George -
Well, "Captain Luthor" is really another DC character (the way "Hank Henshaw" was really J'onn J'onzz). If you're like me, you'll figure it out about five minutes before it's revealed. George

Raf might also know. Hint: Tattoo also starred a "Bond Girl." George

You're right. I should have just used one line: "Well, gonna write a little letter, gonna mail it to my local DJ; it's a rockin' little record I want my jockey to play" The first half might have been enough for you to recognize it. I just didn't feel like leaving it to chance. George -

A very good chance. That's it. George -
Jennifer Connelly IS hot. Loved her in (coincidentally) "The Hot Spot." Still looks good in "Snowpiercer." George

Well, with Raf's MAZE, and WW's Crete, I assume the movie is "Labyrinth" (or some such). Don't know anything about it. George

I'm clearly not going to get it without googling something. Human is MIA, so I assume he has no guess, either. Whenever you're ready, Raf. George
