  1. James Gunn was asked on Twitter in 2016 if he had ever seen this show, as it had some similarities in terms of character. He replied that of all television shows, this was the one that influenced Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) the most. When this show was cancelled, the star moved over to Stargate SG-1. The female lead also took a featured role on SG-1. The show made reference to a lot of American folklore. An example is this quote from the main character, when questioned about screwing up the timeline: "Ah, screw it. But I am not Kirk, Spock, Luke, Buck, Flash or Arthur frelling Dent. I'm Dorothy Gale from Kansas." Others: He bemoans the fact that Buffy the Vampire Slayer might be dead by the time he gets back to Earth. He refers to Moya as "the Federation Starship Buttcrack". He quotes lines from Apocalypse Now and Blazing Saddles. He writes "Hi there!" on a bomb he throws, a reference to Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. The show faced the very real threat of cancellation halfway through its first season when its production location, Fox Studios Australia, "forced" them out to make way for another production: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002). The logistical problems of moving the large and expensive sets to a Stateside location would have been too cost-prohibitive. Fortunately, another studio was found nearby that was able to house the production (at Homebush), and the series was renewed for a second season. Ranked 4th in American magazine TV Guide's list of the "25 Top Cult Shows Ever!" (30 May 2004 issue). Perhaps the storyline (from IMDb) will help: Astronaut John Crichton, on an experimental space mission, is accidentally hurled across the universe into the midst of an intergalactic conflict. Trapped among alien creatures wielding deadly technology and hunted by a merciless military race, Crichton is on an epic odyssey more spectacular than anything he has ever imagined. George
  2. I know the actors. I just can't think of a common movie. George
  3. I've been promoted to rookie. George
  4. I'm a newbie with 19,000 posts... George
  5. Mrs. Robinson "Where it began, I can't begin to knowin', but then I know it's growin' strong." George
  6. "It must be nice to always believe you know better, to always think you're the smartest person in the room." "No. It's awful." "Now, if there's anything I can do for you..." "Well, I certainly hope you'll die soon." "I know you care about him. I've never seen you like this about anyone, so please don't get me wrong when I tell you that Tom, while being a very nice guy, is the Devil." "This isn't friendship. You're crazy, you know that?" "What do you think the Devil is going to look like if he's around?" "God!" "Come on! Nobody is going to be taken in by a guy with a long, red, pointy tail! What's he gonna sound like?" [hisses] "No. I'm semi-serious here." "You're seriously..." "He will be attractive! He'll be nice and helpful. He'll get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation. He'll never do an evil thing! He'll never deliberately hurt a living thing... he will just bit by little bit lower our standards where they are important. Just a tiny little bit. Just coax along flash over substance. Just a tiny little bit. And he'll talk about all of us really being salesmen. And he'll get all the great women." "Ok, I'll meet you at the place near the thing where we went that time." "If anything happens to me, you tell every woman I've ever gone out with I was talking about her at the end. That way they'll have to reevaluate me." "This is more than Nixon ever sweated." George
  7. The HBOMax series Titans comes to TNT network, starting Monday evening. I've avoided watching it, as people have told me it's very violent and full of profanity. I expect that it won't be that bad on TNT, so I'm actually looking forward to it. George
  8. I know it gets hard to keep the threads straight, but this isn't "Three Actors or Three Movies." (Or "Movie Mash-Up," for that matter.) George
  9. I recognize this song, but I thought the title WAS "Round and Round." George
  10. Apparently, it does. :-) George
  11. Raf, What's with the little hand icon by the avatars? Scrolling over them shows that you and I are "newbies" (?) George
  12. I'm not sure if the misspelling was intended (like "Ahhnold"), but it is Holly Hunter. You're up. George
  13. I believe that this will update automatically. Maybe not. George
  14. Sounds like a college alma mater. George
  15. You're welcome to make them as hard as you want (as long as you follow the rule that the song actually had reasonable airplay and isn't some obscure album cut), on this thread. Of course, the point of Songs Remembered from One Line is to make them as easy as possible (which doesn't mean that we won't occasionally be stumped). On the other hand, with only four of us playing, making it too difficult only brings the thread to a halt. George
  16. No. As Stargate: Atlantis came after SG-1 (though there was some overlap), it would be unlikely for the actor to transition from the former to the latter. 17. She's no kid, but younger than Redgrave. All of these roles are from post-1985 movies. Pretty famous. Raf's implication that one of the roles listed is from my Name That Flick quiz is correct. Edwina "Ed" McDunnough Jane Craig Carnelle Scott Jane Roe Coral Grable Ada McGrath Tammy Hemphill Helen Remington Mary Todd Lincoln Penny Wharvey-McGill Billie Jean King Mona Camp George
  18. I know the melody, but probably because the AM radio we had in my frat room wasn't particularly hi-def, I couldn't even tell you the words that follow "Rocketman" in the chorus. I am better with some EJ songs (especially the covers); but I couldn't recite a line from "Tiny Dancer" or several other hits. And I feel no less a man because of it. George
  19. That's obviously a clue, but it isn't helping. George
  20. OK. I know this from the chorus: "The Gambler." That said, I then looked up the lyrics, and lo and behold, Raf's previous post showed up. I've definitely heard the song MANY times, but either I just never listened to more than the chorus, or the first lines just didn't ring a bell without the melody. Since I knew the song before googling, I'm taking the W. This one may have been done recently, but "Here she comes, just a-walkin' down the street..." George
  21. Never heard of it. Looked it up. Nice rockabilly tune. George This one isn't on my playlist, either. George
  22. If you know, feel free to give them... George
