  1. The main cast of this show (excluding the star) included Arsenio Hall Kelly Hu Tammy Lauren Louis Mandylor Tom Wright Gretchen Egolf (The first two would have given it away for me, but then I watched this (relatively) short-lived series regularly.) The star of the show, Sammo Hung, wasn't particularly proficient in English, so he had fewer lines than most of the co-stars. The show had a cross-over with Walker, Texas Ranger. Jackie Chan is a friend of the star and has an uncredited cameo in one of the episodes. George
  2. Dreamgirls Tower Heist The Distinguished Gentleman Harlem Nights Best Defense Boomerang George
  3. Movies longer than three hours tend to be serious dramas (biographies like Gandhi and Malcom X or epic tales like Ben-Hur or Lord of the Rings). This one is quite different. Stan Laurel was offered a cameo role but refused, as he had promised never to work again after the death of Oliver Hardy. The role went to Jack Benny. At the time this film was made, there were about 100 stunt performers in America. 80 of them were used in this film. George
  4. Definitely too subtle. But I got the answer without it. New one soon. George
  5. Supergirl finale: OK, but not a big winner IMHO. It was nice to see Mon-el, Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant, and Winn Schott, again, and Helen Slater (as Eliza Danvers) gives a wink to her movie role. I'm surprised that Superman didn't show up, and Barry Allen would have been nice (her first crossover). All the action was over about midway through the second hour. The last half hour was all touchy-feely stuff with a predictable ending. George
  6. I can figure out just about everything except the answer. Art Carney won for Harry and Tonto, and there was a lot of grumbling that Al Pacino didn't win for Godfather II. Pacino DID win for Scent of a Woman, but I don't remember any other Oscars from around that time. If anyone else is playing, think really long autobiographical movie, involving the Middle East, from the early 90s. George
  7. But, then again, there's that Rodney King thing... George
  8. Another really long movie which could involve Mecca is one I haven't seen, so I don't know much about it, but Lawrence of Arabia (?) George
  9. Presumably, the book is an autobiography. When the author died, another had to tell about it. If it weren't for the Rodney King mention, I'd have been thinking Moses/Joshua. It might have made sense with filming in Mecca. But that's clearly not this movie. George
  10. It's not Hidalgo (about one hour too short). Not getting it. George
  11. There aren't a lot of movies that went over three hours. Gandhi was only 3 hr 11 min, and, I think, won Best Picture and Best Actor. Ben-Hur? (I don't think any of it was filmed in Mecca, but maybe.) George
  12. Hey, Suda! Have you been lurking long? We're always looking for new players! We'll have to wait for Raf for confirmation, but I suspect you're right. Have your set of clues ready! George
  13. How many people have been Morticia Addams? I don't know who did the cartoon voice, but I can only think of two live actresses. George
  14. I would have thought the last entries would give it away. George
  15. I'm a fan of CCR, but I didn't know that one. George
  16. Stargirl finished its summer run. A good story. No real surprises, but some teasers for next season. Supergirl ends its seven-year run next week, with a two-hour finale. I expect a lot of guest stars. (Well, OK. In teh preview for next week, Brainiac 5 mentions "calling for reinforcements.") George
  17. Into the Woods, it is. If you see the play and want a happy ending, leave at intermission. George
  18. I have not seen this movie, but I have seen the play. T-shirts sold in the lobby of the theater said, "It's all fun and games until the second act." I didn't understand -- until I saw the second act. (I point this out, because I don't know if the movie is broken up into acts.) According to a female star (of the movie), the set pieces used for the woods were so big and realistic that she and a male star actually got lost while on the sound stage, and had to be rescued by a production assistant. According to the same female star, that male star was extremely shy about his singing voice, and noted that he would hold back during rehearsals. She only heard his actual singing voice when she was eating lunch in the recording studio. She was in a room by herself and she heard a "beautiful, crooning voice" coming from the hallway, but she assumed that it was a singer from a different project, since multiple records were being recorded in the studio. She then noticed that the singing wasn't stopping, so she poked her head out to see who it was. To her surprise, she discovered that it was the male star, who didn't know that there was anybody else there. George
