Ckeer is correct. You have to have server space somwhere, then link to it. It is very easy to do though, and most isp's will offer some server space, like for a personal web page for example. If your account doesn't provide you with server space, PT me and I'll help you out. Rick

You might want to check www.dslreports.com for information about how good the dsl in your area is. Rick

Lie number one: I have dsl. I do some side work for an isp that is the re-seller of the dsl that I have. At 12,000 feet, you are at the edge of even being able to get dsl. But please note, the measurement is NOT "as the crow fly's", it's "as the wire winds", so to speak :)-->. In other words, you could be only a mile from the central office, but the trunk your on could possibly be a 3 mile run of wire before it gets to your house. Also, if your line has been cut and spliced to many times, it will degrade the speed. I have a friend who works for sbc that put me on a different trunk(less copper to travel, with fewer splices) when he came to do the demarcation(I believe that's what he called it) so I would get better speed. quote: ...He claims that there will be no slowdowns from additional users within the house being online, that my 1500 to 1600 will be constant and will be fully available to each user. (this is a concern as most of my wife's time online is working via Citrix and it seems to hog a lot of bandwidth) 3) He also claims that I won't experience the fluctuations that I do when other households "downstream or upstream" are using their cable to access. I don't know which of these lies ticks me off the most! To address the first one, if you have 1500mb/s total bandwidth at your router, that is the MAXIMUM bandwidth you have. Now, say your wife is watching a video stream on her computer, and you attempt to download something on your computer, of COURSE you are not going to have the full 1500 mb/s available! All computers on your home network will have 1500 to share, and that's it...not 1500 per computer. As far as the second statement, while each neighborhood isn't running off of one node like with cable, you still only have the maximum bandwidth of the providers t-1(s) or ds-1 or whatever they have. So on a busy night, if they have oversold thier available bandwidth and you get a LOT of people using it all at once, there will still be a bottle-neck. As far as your wiring, shouldn't be a problem there. I'm not saying don't get dsl...I have it and I'm happy with it. But go to some of the dsl forums and get informed before you make the switch. Don't let some sbc sales rep lie to you! Rick

Try This. Open Internet Explorer and up at the top, click tools, then select Internet Options. There, you will see a tab that says security. Click it. You will then see 4 "zones". Click on the one that says Internet. Look down below, and if the setting says Custon, click the button that says default level. Then, click on the one that says Restricted Sites. You will see a button that says Sites. Click it and make sure that the site hasn't somehow gotten entered there as a restricted site. If it is, delete it from your list. Rick

WOW A la, it's Amazing that you mentioned CCR today, of all days! I pulled into a parking lot just this afternoon, and a guy sitting in the truck right beside me was jamming on Suzi-Q...had it CRANKED up! As I walked by I gave him the thumbs-up and said "Good Tune", to which he just grinned and flashed me a "peace" sign! Come to think of it, I bet he was an Amazing Sea Monkey in disguise! Rick

Did Mike say anthing on THIS thread about his "work" or anything at all that he should have been jumped on and his name mutilated (Smikeol)? I mean serious, why act like that EVERY time he posts, even when he's not promoting pfal? Rick

Well, thanks for the Youngster comment! But Alas, it doesn't apply. :(--> My FIRST computer was a terminal with a 1200 baud modem to connect to the 3B20 Duplex where I worked, in case there were problems after hours. That eventually got replaced with a brand new AT&T brand 8088 with a whopping 10 meg drive. That got replaced a year later with a 286 running at a blazing 10 mhz(or was it 12? Can't remember now). Then I got into Oracle development, and had to have expanded memory. The company spent almost a grand for an Intel Above Board. Chips cost extra, and it took 72 chips to get a whole 2 meg of expanded memory! Like yourself, I remember when version 1 of windows came out. But those of us working in the unix world kinda had an attitude about windows with all it's Windows, Icons, Mice, and Pointers. :)--> Oh, and I was lucky, I always worked for companies that provided me with a computer. Never had to buy my own till my first Pentium. :)--> Rick

Oops! See there! I omitted a word and it made the whole thing fall apart! :D--> Rick -
Won't be long before we will see the terabyte drives. When I got my first 100 meg drive, I said I'd never use that much space. When I got my first 1.2 gig drive, I said I'd never use that much space. I ain't saying nothin' no more! :)--> Rick

Gee, if that's true, I hope I get in line before Excathedra and Zixar. Otherwise, eternity will be OVER before I get my chance. :D--> Just kiddin' with ya! :)--> Rick -
If you boot from the xp cd, it will walk you through the process of setting up your partition and formatting. Oh, and you may already know this but when you put in your new drive, make sure the red stripe on the IDE cable(that flat cable) is on the same side the power plugs into. Rick

You left out the option that fits me. I'm a Software Developer, and work at home, so it's a tool I use to make a living. Rick
