  1. Shellon and Co -- Have you had the chance to see Phantom (as a musical)? I was lucky (can I say 'lucky' here?) enough to see it on Broadway in NYC back in 1999 - it was incredible! It was soooo worth it - the music just sends chills down my spine!
  2. The only Crown I'm interested in....
  3. Isn't that loving of them? Nice to see how they are adhearing to the recent teaching coming out of HQ about forgiveness. This is EXACTLY what I'd expect - even by the standards of 5 to 7 years ago. Yes, they're still Living Sanctified (which is wayspeak for "head up their @rses!")
  4. The best thing about last night was when His Royal Purpleness made an appearance! It was great that they got Prince to perform - WOW! I really like him a lot now that he's cleaned up his act - he got too raunchy after Sign of The Times album came out and I sorta tuned out. But he's back - I love his songwriting and instrument playing - he plays about every instrument and is very talented - highly underrated guitarist. Anyhow, I didn't care that Taylor won, or Kat came in 2nd - she was disappointed. If Chris had been in the top two, I certainly would have been more interested. I bet he'll get some great album sales when his first recording is released - it's just got "it".

    Success

Having kids made me totally revise my concept of success. If they're still alive at the end of the day - it was a successful day. Seriously, it's no longer about me or what I'm doing in life - my #1 job is to protect them and to provide for them. My title in the 'outside' world is squat - I'm not on any career path at the moment. I have two businesses I run from home - neither is on any fast track - the jobs I take in get done when I can do them. My priorities are different - but I'm happy, overall. Perhaps that will change and I'll go back to a career path, but babies don't stay babies forever, so I'm soaking it all in now, while I can!

Danny - your rendition of Beautiful Ho-I-Oh was well done - it sounded, to me, like a human voice at first - a little eerie, too. Very cool instrument you have there - and to think - you made it! Hats off to you!
  7. Glad you love your little gadget! The thing that I've been impressed with lately for backup is my iPod. I picked up a little 20 gig iPod for like $150 off eBay not that long ago. It's second hand and not in perfect condition, but works very well. I've backed up my whole compter to it - photos and all - without compressing anything - over 14 gigs. And it still plays music, boots up just fine, etc. The only time I use my flash drive now is to transfer documents from the iMac to the PC and vice-versa, as I have XP Home Edition and can't network the iMac to the PC very easily - (read: I got frustrated with it and said, "Screw it! It's not worth it!") If you find you've out grown your flash drive, I highly recommend getting an iPod - plus if you get bored you can turn on and tune out! :)
  8. I see ol' Vaden is fishing again... Wanna know where he gets his bait from....?? He's got his lines in several threads here lately... Although he's welcome, as far as I'm concerned, I do believe that his initial post is... how shall I say it.... trite.
  9. Raf -- It's this part of the phrase.... Within our discussion I found it interesting how alike the Morman Church is structured and organized to our own ministry I think the key words in my post were "it sound like".... I say this because they are placing the LDS Church first in the sentence, as it sounds as though the LDS organized itself after TWI. It's more of what's implied or assumed to be implied by how the sentence is structured, that I was pointing out. Being raised Mormon and knowing a little about the structure of the LDS church, I'd have to disagree on that account, as well. The head of each church is a President, for starters. The only President in TWI is the one who's the head of the whole thing... That's just one example. =================================== Belle -- Good points about how we never knew anything about Peter, but there was lots of teachings about Paul. I've been trying to fill in some of those gaps lately. I feel like I came away from TWI knowing about Moses, Joshua, The Adversary, David, Solomon, and Paul. Never mind Jesus Christ, Peter, James, etc. scheesch! ================================== Still, no one had the scripture on how the First Century Church is set up like a tree. ... How interesting....
  10. Gawd, this is a long shot... Three Below Zero?

    Things I Like

Good beer or wine The feeling you get when a fish tugs at the end of your line - yippee! GOT ONE! Seeing the kids hit milestones - like walking for the first time. A good debate that doesn't turn into an actual arguement. A clean house (because if it happens, it means that I didn't do it! LOL!) Jeans that have dried in the sun and are stiff when you put them on. Waking up to find the coffee has been made. Saving money when I shop by playing the coupon game. Taking my car for inspection and having it pass (it should everytime, but...) Finding extra money in the laundry or in an old purse. Butterfly kisses from Kristopher. A warm, sleepy baby that's just woken up but isn't fussy - and wants snuggles from mom. ahhhh. A warm cat on my cold feet at night.
  13. We talk about: Breakfast What's in their pants Drinking Lunch TV Shows What's up their noses Drinking What's in their pants Napping Which computer is faster Supper What's in their pants When am I going to give them both baths What's going on tomorrow Drinking What's in their pants Yep. I work with a 1 year old, and a 4 year old. I'm a stay-at-home mom, most of the time. I also contract as administrative support for my town, a college, and a couple of other clients - but do most of my work at home.

Hmmmmm.... So, you need help spending your money, huh? I'm just the gal for the job! :) Do you think you may gig with the amp? Do you just need something for practice? I recommend you get at least 60W - that way you can practice or play out in small setting. If you think you're going to play out (gig) frequently, then get at least 100W. I also recommend you get a cabinate style - that means that your knobs, settings, jacks, etc., are all in one until with the speaker(s) - easier to tote around. I practice on my 100W amp, and only can play after the kids are in bed - I have no trouble turning it down low enough so they're not bothered by it. (It's also fun to crank it when they're not home! I love those moments!) Let me explain that tube amps are great for guitars, but that the tubes would become loose and rattle if they were in a bass amp - I'm sure they make 'em, but from what I understand you should look for "solid state" for bass amps. You'll hear terms like "horn" (that's to amp your higher notes - more treble). Solid state amps can sound as good as tube amps these days - the Bassman is known for that, as it's also used by many guitar players. Hubby plugged his Martin into it the other night and I didn't think I was going to get my Bassman back ever again! LOL! First off, the Fender Bassman amp gets a lot of good reviews. If you just need a practice amp, then something around 60W should do the trick. Fender also makes a Fender Rumble - stay away. It's cheesy sounding. The Bassman is the middle-priced amp that Fender has. The Rumble is the low-end price and there's a big diff. Second, Peavey is known for their amps - the founder - Hartly Peavey, was an electronical engineer. The gear is the most rugged stuff out there and there's great tone from his amps - check Harmony Central for details. Third, consider Carvin. They used to be know for their problems with electronics, but they've come a long way. The cool think about the Carvin bass amp is that you get a lot of bang for your buck and it's American made. (Stay away from anything else - look for Made in America or Japan - that's usually better quality in the long run, although I'm sure there's exceptions. Finally, I like looking on eBay just to see how pricing may look on my wants. eBay, in my opinion, will give you a base-market-value for what it is that you're looking for. You'll be able to see what you can get for the $$ you've budgeted towards your new toy. Then, come and tell us all about it! Love this thread! (Lemme know how you make out! Neat bass - I've always wanted to try one of those!)

    A man....

exie - I love you! You're so funny!
  16. I just followed someone's link to one of the TWI myspace forums and was reading up on some thread about help the Mormons. Someone posted something there that got me ta' thinkin'... This is no slam against them or anything of the sort, okay? They're into their thing - TWI - it just ain't my thing anymore - I don't hold that against them at all (in case they're reading!) But someone said... First, it sounds like they think the Mormons structured their church after TWI (nope, sorry - historically impossible - and they probably didn't mean it the way they typed it) but the real moment of clarity is the phrase about TWI being structured like the First Century Church... Hmmmm.... Please, can someone post the scripture where it mentions how the First Century Church was set up like a MLM* organization? I never really gave it much thought before - is this just something else we swallowed, hook-line-and-sinker - and thought it was "right on"... ??? *MLM = Multi-Level Marketing. Some organizations like Amway, etc. are also a tree or multi-level management tiered.
  17. George - your pic of Daniel Boone made me think of this show: I grew up watching this and even had a coon-skin cap (okay, it was made out of polyester with fake fur, but anyhow...) Remember this one... Not to be confused with this Davey...
  18. I don't get that aspect of things either. When I was in the South, it seemed like weddings were held more in competition of who could out-spend whom. They would take years to plan, cost into the hundred-of-thousands of dollars (I must have know the lower class rich southerners), and for what? A 50-50 chance at a successful marriage? I'd rather elope and have the money for a nice house, porsche, and whatever else... why spend it on all that fluff? When Hubby first proposed to me, I wanted to just elope and throw a party afterwards. (That was also before the Marriage Penalty Tax had been lifted - I knew we'd get b-i-t-k-h-e-d slapped at tax time.) He didn't want that, as it was his first marriage - he wanted his mom to be there, etc. . I knew the headache that could come with planning an event, so we rented out the restaurant of a very nice resort local resort and invited 30 of our closest friends and relatives. The wedding was outside, on a golf course. The reception included a full banquet with a choice of three different entrees. We had the perfect August day for it - breezy, cool, and sunny. It was just a nice day - no snafus. A very good friend had said, "Put your money into your photos and your food, because that's what people will remember," and she was right! Along with our outfits, rings, flowers, etc. - the whole thing came to less than $2K. We paid the whole bill that day. DONE. Then, we put our money into getting the house and having babies - and we've been broke ever since! LOL!
  19. Yeah, if those tapes are copyrighter, then no duping company would touch them for fear of liability. 40 hours of tape...? That wouldn't be a PFAL class, now would it? Let me know how this works for you & good luck!
  20. Oh, man - that's the truth about them! The same can apply to mathematicians - I'm married to one, so I know! Scheesch!
  21. LOL - Me, too! What horrible "music"! I'd rather listen to cats mating then this crap again!
  22. A close friend and co-worker asked me to shoot their wedding for them. They'e in their early 50's - it's the second marriage for both of them, so not too formal of an affair. I knew they had a tight budget and so I offered to do it for free - my gift. I'm not a professional by any stretch, but figured I could get them some good shots to remember their special day. I couldn't make this up if I wanted to... The day before the wedding, the bride decided to make the wedding cake - and decorate it herself. She didn't have the place cards done for the tables, or all the food for the reception, which she and the groom had decided to cook and serve themselves - for 70 people! (Great if you know what you're doing - they didn't!) From what I heard, he burped all through rehearsal (class act!) and it happened an hour late. They also forgot to tell me where and when it was - so, no pics of that fiasco! The day of the blessed event, the bride thought she should manifest her being nervous by getting mean. "This is supposed to be MY DAY! What can't everyone figure THAT out?!" was said early in the morning - I knew we were in for a tough one. She also decided that the napkins at the place settings were all wrong and re-did all the settings herself to make sure it was right this time! (Oh, boy...) Ten minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start, she decided - with language that could have made a sailor blush, and an attitude of a pit bill, she wanted everyone at her house for photos - they were at the chapel. She was red-faced and screaming - not too becoming of a bride. Having seen a lot of these kinds of tantrums, as I have young kids, I said, "I'd be glad to go get them, but it would take me ten minutes to get to the chapel and back, and it's already 12:50PM. Is this what you really want me to do?" She backed down and I heard a collective sigh of relief from the wedding party, who were scared of her by that point. We got to the chapel 10 mins late, as it was. It was then that the Best Man discovered he didn't know where the rings were at. Then, the Maid of Honor relized she left all of the bouquets at another house - but wasn't sure which one - so, they had no flowers. Someone went to fetch all the items. So, the wedding started 40 mins late. (Oh, and there were NO ushers, either - seating was confusing as all get out!) Some poor dude offered to seat the mothers, so at least that was done right. The groom behaved himself - no burping - PHEW! - and they got through the ceremony pretty well, thanks to a firm-handed pastor. Due to all the rain we had here last week, the reception had been moved from the Bride & Groom's house, to a meeting hall, just down the street from the chapel. Good choice, because it did rain yesterday. But did anyone call the guests to let them know? Nope. So, if you weren't at the ceremony, you'd have no way to join the reception later, because there was no communication. They were missing over 12 people who had RSVP'ed that they'd be there. No one thought to leave a sign at the home of the Bride and Groom to let any late comers know that the reception had moved. Oops! The reception starts at 2PM, everyone is starving, but there's only peanuts, shrimp, and chips to eat. Those were gone in 20 mins. Since there was just one oven and about 10 things that needed to be heated - guess what? There was no food ready until after 3:30PM - several people left a little grumpy about it, saying they had other things going on that day. (The food was the worst - for a spring wedding it was just too heavy and there was no real menu - just lots of schmutz.) As my Hubby put it, the people who didn't get any food were better off in the long run. The reception was every bad cliche you can imagine. Yes, "The Bride Cuts the Cake" song played, they tossed the flowers and the garter. (No one caught either - there was only like four single people there.) And The Chicken Dance was played - those are really bad cliches, I guess... it's just so.... typical. So, I shot about 15 rolls of film, got some good pics. if they ever renew their vows, I'm putting my camera equipment up for sale on eBay - I'd have no part of that ever again. Hopefully everyone went home and drank enough (there was no bar - period - but some cheep beer in a cooler) to think they had a good time. I hope my pics come out well for them - and I hope they're happy. I'm just happy it's over. Ever go to something like this? Do tell....
  23. I just got the best little gadget for my iPod - it's an iTalk, which records to the iPod. I've picked up several gigs around town videotaping public meetings and then writing up the meeting minutes. I didn't want to worry about bringing a tape that would run out in 60 or 90 mins. and would need attention while I was filming. The iTalk has a one-touch record button and can record as long as the battery has power and the iPod has memory! It costs about $20 on eBay (including shipping!) and is well worth the money! It also has a mic-in jack, so you can record directly to the iPod, and a pre-amp on the mic to boost the sound. Additionally, it has a speaker so you can hear what you've recorded - or even utilized the alarm function on the iPod without a lot of money for a whole alarm clock set. Just thought I'd share that with y'all - :)
  24. It should. I've looked at this product as well, but found I didn't need it as the camcorder the movies were on had an A/V-to-USB cord. From what I understand Pinnacle 500 USB is a pheriphial AND software package. Since it comes with software, I think it would be a good idea to see what the system specification of the software entail before you install it. I would assume that your ride is up to the task, but without knowing the specs of your computer vs. the specs of the software, that's for you to compare. I would also assume that your computer also has either an S-video jack or the typical red-yellow-white A/V jacks to hook it to your VCR UNLESS the tapes you mention can be played on your camcorder and saved on your computer (many camcorders do this now - my favorite is the Sony Handycam - fun toy!) It's my experience that software like this can be a pain - even if the device is great - so do your homework! If you really want to make sure you don't loose your precious tapes you could (a) take them to a professional for a VHS to DVD copy - usually costs about $30, depending on the vendor (b) take them to a professional for a VHS copy to play with - usually about $10 depending on the length of the tape, then use the copy for your experiment or © play with a tape that you don't care about, until you're comfortable with the process, then use your one-of-a-kind-tapes. One final note - if you punch out the re-write tab on the VHS tape, your VCR won't record over it. Likewise, if you don't hit the 'record' button, you won't damage your special tapes. Therefore, even if you goof up the copy you're making, I don't see how you could really damage your old tapes (unless they're brittle - then certainly take them to a pro and don't mess with them!) Hope this helps.
  25. Man, that was tough... I hope someone gets it and that I didn't screw it up.... :)
