I've been threatening to have a YARD SALE this weekend, which Kristopher, my 5 year old, dreads to the hilt. I had been planning it all week but had seldom brought it up to Hubby - we just go our separate ways Mon-Fri, anyhow. Well, Friday night when I was at work, Hubby and Kristopher were watching a news feature about a big pumkin festival. Kristopher turned to Hubby and said: "Daddy, I gotta tell you somethin'. There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that there's pumkins alllllllllll over the world tonight. The bad news is that they're going to be in a yard sale tomorrow." Hubby told me about it later and then asked, "WTF is up with the yard sale comment?" I recovered from laughing and explained my plans for the weekend - it was too funny. (The yard sale was cancelled due to very windy conditions here Saturday - much to Kristopher's relief.)

Very Interesting (current Way leader publishes a book)

A little sluthing and I came up with this... She's a ghost writer on this book - Events that Changed the World, and although her name is not listed on the cover, it is as an editorial research assistant... Please don't take this the wrong way, anyone... but... What do you think some of these 'leaders' do all day? I mean, don't you remember them working when you were in TWI? I do, although most were window washers or insurance salesmen when I was in... The gal has to make a living somehow, don'tchaknow? Best of luck to her, I say. -
And this is.... Yup, Ms. Page

aye, aye, Captain Picard!

Now I recall where I heard of him the most - Bela Fleck and the Flecktones tour around this way quite a bit - that's worth checkin' out! For me, the bass player who really slaps is Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) - I love his funk style... But I was looking for a good clip to share, something that was really cool by Flea... and I came across this... He's a NOBODY - and the dude is amazing on bass - you gotta see this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpshMTtgZ5k

Yes - finally late this afternoon, I got away from the rugrats just long enough to do it and - BINGO! It's all better! Thanks for your help on this one - PHEW!

Well, in your initial post you said: I realize that it is easy to oversimplify anything having to do with the brain or matters of God, for that matter. But – doesn't it strike you as odd that we learned about spiritual matters from such a left brain perspective? TWI took a corporate, almost "military-style" approach in teaching the Word. It was a lot of memorization, charts, scripts, list, and facts. Even the art and music was very pasturized - no room for improv. Remember how cold and simpleton those charts were in the class? Good grief - it was as if an ounce of color would have killed them. I believe we all communicate or assimulate information in whatever we know best. TWI didn't give us any choice - if you didn't get the teaching it was never because of the teacher or how the teaching was presented to the student. But God doesn't work that way, does he? He knows how we learn best and how to best get a point across to us. I believe he's "talked" to me more since I've been out than when I was "in" TWI, but that could also be because I loosened up a good bit...

Dear EWB -- How much coffee have you had today? How much Coke-a-Cola have you drank today? Is your sugar intake high today? Are you taking any diet medications, such as effedrine? Do you really like asking questions? Has anyone ever told you that you might ask too many questions? Do you stay up at night thinking of questions? Do you expect answers to your questions? Do you think I might just be messing with you because I can? I PAID for going to that reunion by getting called on the carpet by leadership for it - all the WC in the state was there for it - yup, cuz little ol' me went to a reunion. I believe I said something to the effect of, "Well, if this is the worst thing going on at this time in this state, then you've got it pretty good." I was told that I was rebellous and aloof (me? aloof? puleeeeze!) and even was given a ration of crap from the LC's wife because she thought the greeting card I made for them was "cold" and had "no heart" - even though I probably spent over 6 hours working on one damn card. Gee thanks. She was a battle axe, anyhow - still is. Did I answer your question? :)

You are a sick man. (but I still love you!)

Agreed CK - that's certainly part of it - as someone who is just starting out on bass, I love watching people and picking up what they're doing and comparing it to what I've learned. I really enjoy playing and even swear there's times when my memory isn't "there" for a song, but somehow my fingers and ears are - I can't explain it - all I know is that it's sweet.

It's one thing to hide your spots, gray hairs, and other things that you can from the world on your own. But this film shows how that's done in the real world, then taken into the DIGITAL world. The results are an image that can only be obtained through digital methods, but yet that's the "bar" we're expected to meet as women - Some of the things done to the final print of the model include: changing her skin tones, changing the color of her eyes, changing the hues of her hair (notice it gets darker around her face), her eyes are brought closer together, her neck is lenthened, her hair is cloned (selecting a section, copy, paste, and layer the paste over the original for depth), her eyebrows are made to have more of an arch, her lips are made thicker, her cheekbones are accented, her eyes are finally made much bigger, and the whole image has a couple of filters run on it to make her appear sleek and smooth and perfect. Yet the model, even without makeup, wasn't bad to look at - wish I looked that good without my face. Prior to the digital age, photographers had to rely on certain tricks to make the models look better than they really were. I have an old print that shows a beautiful blonde in a red dress - the dress fits her every curve and her hair looks full and nice. She's a 10. Then there's a shot of what THAT shot really looked like from behind - the dress has masking tape all over the back of it to alter it to fit her body, and there's a bunch of bobbie pins and clips in her hair, at the back of her head, to make her hair poof out and look full, and so on. So, back to the digital age... Images of what women are SUPPOSED to look like can so easily be altered - a fictional representation of womanhood is forcefed us via every media avenue you can imagine. It's no wonder that with this digital media that girls today are trying to look more mature than they are or even develop some of the self-image issues they deal with at such younger ages - I'm glad Dove is doing this campagn because it delves into what YOU can't do for YOURSELF to make the most of your looks - it goes way beyond that.

WOW - amazing! What interesting techniques - he's using a lot of hammer on/hammer off (not to be confused with wax on/wax off), harmonic tones (that's those bell tone-like notes you hear when he's up near the headstock), some slap, picking, strumming - but no picks used - and wow - just amazing! Thanks for sharing that DMiller - that's just incredible - and did you catch where he plays a little bit of "Starry, Starry Night" at the beginning? Very cool. BTW - I had heard of him, he's a session player, mostly - and tours. I have not seen him showcased like that before tho.

Also, for the record - I'm not finger pointing or any of that - I have no problem with the poster who started this thread. I really don't give the southern most end of a rodent about CFF or any other spin off. I did check them out and they were very nice - but very in OH and very much like TWI, to me. BUT if you follow my posts, or even just hang around for a while, you'll notice I'm often the devil's advocate. It's what I do best.

For the risk of having the snot slapped outta me.... I'm gonna say it... Perhaps they had a DAMN good reason for the spy. Perhaps someone was teaching something waaayyyyyyyy off base, or were not being good ministers - afterall, the fellowship leaders do affiliate themselves with the CFF name, etc. - so maybe they did mess up. Maybe the person running the fellowship was about to really do some damage to God's people, which would lay blame to the CFF Ministry. Maybe shutting that fellowship down was a good thing - who knows. Now, in no way what-so-ever do I know the details about this - I've checked out CFF and just wasn't interested - BUT - I DO know there's usually 2-sides to a story... (ducking) (not the quacking kind - as in, getting out of the line of fire.)

I studied this book when I was in art class in school - I remember some of the exercises to this day - one was turning a picture upside down and then drawing it - that was hard to do, but when you turned your drawing right-side up, it was just fine, if not good work (at least, in my case.) As a lefty, this was always an interesting subject to me. I had to learn to adapt with things like scissors, can openers, etc., as a kid - I'm now seeing this with my boys - Kristopher is certainly lefty and we highly suspect Andreas is, too! But leftys are known for certain traits - the ones you mention for the RIGHT side of the brain - usually they're the creative, artistic-type, with a loose concept of time, sorta moody, often into the arts or music. I know that many teachers aren't really subscribing to this theory anymore - some feel it's passe - but there is certianly some truth to it - it's who we are and how we think... and how we process information.

No - I haven't.... It's really stumping me... What I really need is just a solid hour with no kids running around me (and biting!) while I try to troubleshoot this thing... Or maybe I just need to get a laptop...

Yes, the 2-by-2 thing was a nightmare. I was always in trouble for that one - but there's somethings that you just don't want to do with someone else. For example, it would have weirded my mother out if I had brought someone along to go visit her. When I lived in MA, I had to submit a permission slip telling leadership where I was going, when, for how long, etc. - I thought it was crazy, but I wasn't going to bring someone along - good grief. It would have been different if I had someone who was a real friend - there weren't many of those - MA was quite the back-stabbing area back in the late 90's. There's a few good people in there, but not many - you gotta watch everything you say and do. Anyhow, I even got in trouble for going to my high school reunion by myself. Now, if a divorced female shows up at a reunion with another female, what do you think is going on? Yeah, I'd assume they were an "item" - right? So, understandably, I wasn't going to bring someone with me who wasn't a "date" - sorry. I had a great time, and I'm glad I went solo - but I "paid" for it in other ways. I don't remember if I told anyone this or not, but about 6-8 months ago I sold a bunch of old books and Way Mags on eBay. I sold about a dozen or so mags to someone from the old town I used to live in with my Ex. I knew that my Ex was still living there and knew the buyer well. So, I struck up a little email conversation with him - "Hey, How ya doin'? Remember me?" you know, that sort of thing. Well, he wrote back - which was nice. There were some real nice people in Tuscaloosa, AL - even if the town itself is sorta a hole. But the thing that got me, was when the guy wrote back and said something like, "We're really tight here - we're always together and always go everywhere two-by-two." So, here they are in 2006. Same feces, different day.

I need help sync-ing up my Pocket PC (Toshiba e740), with my PC. I just bought a wireless keyboard for the Pocket PC and want to install the software to use it tonight at a meeting. The charge had gone out on the Pocket PC, so I'm having to start from scratch with the settings - and I just don't remember how to do it. This is probably an easy fix for someone with experience with this stuff - I'm floundering. I've had no luck trying to troubleshoot it on the net, because the microsoft.com instructions and FAQ's are not in language I can understand (I'm great with software - I get a glazed-over look in my eye when it comes to net working stuff.) I don't have much experience using the Pocket PC - I did have it sync-ed up once with PC, but that was last winter - it's always been one of those "I'll-get-to-that-someday" things - So, today is SOMEDAY! If someone can give me a number (by PM) and time to call them, I would appreciate it. I'm here all day until 5:30 PM, EST.
