  1. Bluzeman - yes, it is vmware - in fact, I could ALSO run Linux, Vista, etc. I've read that software developers love it because you can test software on all different OSs but all on the same machine. The other bonus is that you don't have to shut down and re-start to get the OS you want to work in - it's just in another window that you can work in, save, close, etc. - it doesn't feel that way - I felt like I was back at my ol' PC last night... (without all the interruptions...) Edit Time: I want to add that part of the reason why I got it is that I have some software that for me to get the OS X version of it would mean $$$$ - whereas, I can achieve the same results with this for a little of this - $$. It's a godsend for someone who's gone from PC to Mac like I have recently done...
  2. Okay... pinch me... All y'all know about my saga with my PC dying and my getting an iMac G5 with Intel 2Duo... Well, the cool thing about this is that I can run Windows... I've discovered that there's some software that works better in Windows (mainly because it's not made for OS X), such as geaneology software that is just better in Windows. Period. Not that long ago, we had a thread here about that... but I can't seem to find it tonight... I think I had something to the effect of "WHY would anyone want to run Windows on a Mac?" I just didn't get it. Anyhow, last weekend I bought Parallels for Desktop for $79 and then Windows XP Home for $80 on eBay. Windows came in the mail today. Hubby installed everything for me. Windows XP is a virtual OS, in another window within OS X. It takes up half of the RAM and partitions the harddrive so that if I get a virus, it won't infect all of the Mac - just the Parallels/XP portion of it. I've installed software, tweaked the display and other window-ish things... it's like being on a PC - EXCEPT that it is faster. I think I'm in love... this is da' bomb for sure... I just gotta get spyware/virus protection now for sure.... this is too cool... (I'm posting this from XP, where I just installed FireFox...)

Have you ever had something come full circle for you in music in your life? Here's a really strange coincidence... Kristopher is really into this singer that's on Disney Channel and Sesame Street. The guy has wacky hair and plays some really vintage-looking gear. Every time I saw him, I thought... "gee, I know this guy from somewhere... what the...?" The music is some of the better children's music I've heard - it won't rot your teeth - it's something I'd listen to without the kids around. I can't say that about any other artists in that genre... His name is Dan Zanes... Finally, a couple of weeks ago, I thought, I gotta Google this one... I found that this guy was the front man for the Del Fuegos... Damn... Okay, back in 1985 (I think it was...), I saw the Del Fuegos open up for INXS in Portland, ME in a t-i-n-y little venue - it wasn't much bigger than a basketball court. I liked the Del Fuegos and knew they were from Bean Town (Boston) - I had one of their albums (until Uncle Harry got it...) Del Fuegos were an up-and-coming band - one of those "you gotta hear this!" type of bands... Now, my kids know who their front man is - but for a totally different reason! The cool thing about Zanes is not just the vintage gear he plays, which makes him interesting to watch, but he's collaborated with some big names on some of his songs - Bob Wier, Aimee Mann (the best female bass player!), and Lou Reed... Zanes just won a Grammy for his album "Catch That Train" Here's a link to his videos page - worth checking out - especially if you've got kids or grandkids buzzing around. It's good music. http://www.danzanes.com/flash/video.shtml
  4. You don't happen to sell this or anything like that, do you? :) I have a food dehydrator and have made my own beef jerky - try adding a little molassas to it sometime... and/or some gingerroot.... YUM

Any of the above - you can also include what songs you might be playing on your instrument... Ibanez made in Japan is especially good - stay away from the stuff made in China...

    * bump * So, what have YOU been playing lately?
  7. I think it would have been too young to be declawed, anyhow... You gotta love how he treats that dog - and that dog is just slightly amused by the kitten...
  8. I love it when kittens do that sideways jump-run things at you - like they're saying, "I'm-a-bad-@$$ed-cat!"
  9. UPDATE: Hubby got a response from the NMAP - they asked if they could quote his letter at some time (there were no specifics about what parts of the letter or anything...) He responded that they could but asked if they could not disclose his name because he didn't want any fallout at work for it. (Sad, eh?) Nonetheless, he was tickled pink to hear back from them!
  10. I got a few cook books for wedding presents when I married Hubby 1.0 The Fanny Farmer Cookbook and The Pillsbury Cookbook are my kitchen bibles. I still have them. I no longer have Hubby 1.0. Nuff' said!
  11. I think it varied on the "trainers"... Hubby says there wasn't any of that crapola in his experience with the program... but he still thinks its not for everyone - that he just happened to get something out of it and maybe had decent trainers in it...
  12. act2 - Would you please post your recipe for slow cooker turkey breast, when you can? Thanks!
  13. Eagle -- You like collards... How about beet greens? You take the beet greens and cut off the stringy stems, wash them well, and place them in a pot with enough water to cover them. Cook them until they're tender. Serve with apple cider vinegar, salt & pepper, and butter. YUM! I also like dandelion greens - you gotta get them outta the ground before the bud opens for the first time on the plant or they're really bitter. Mustard greens are mighty fine too... One thing, I didn't like putting fat back in with my greens - I found that veggie boullion in the water was way better for flavor - and makes a broth you can use later for soups.
  14. Do you always believe EVERYTHING you read? I have a green card for you to look at...
  15. When I hear "Vision Quest" all I can think about is a sweaty wrestler skipping roap...
  16. BOWTWI - I assume the document you're working in is a Word document, no? Why not just change your dictionary settings to the UK settings? Just a thought...

ROTFPIMP! Oh man... that was rich! No, he's in a 50's, 60's, 70's rock and roll cover band. I might be doing a small web page for them - they play out at campgrounds, town parks, and hardware store openings (hey - don't laugh - in this town, that's a big deal!) He plays rhythm guitar and sings. There's a lead guitar player and a drummer. The bass player is excellent - she's played professionally during the 60's and 70's - mostly in Philadelphia - and tells stories about playing with the likes of Buddy Guy, Jerry Lee Lewis, Muddy Waters, BB King, etc - pretty awesome. dmiller - we have TONS of pics with cats in guitar cases - we joke that some day we're going to get rich marketing the things as cat beds!
  18. With Firefox, you just import the book marks when you install it - it walks you through it - you just select if you want to do that OR not, and that's it! Try it - I bet you'll like it! (I like it that I don't have to type my usernames and passwords for everything...)
  19. Dooj - A real simple fix? Go to this link, and download Firefox and install it for a browser. It's very simple to use and not buggy like Netscape. It's better than Explorer and many others. It's FREE and there's NO learning curve with it, really. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ If you don't like it, you've got your old Netscape to go back to. I highly recommend it - it's one of the best things out there now...
  20. I do that with sugar-free pudding for the boys - I make little freezer-pops for them with it.
  21. My Greek Monster-In-Law says NEVER fry with olive oil - it gets bitter...
  22. coolchef... I'm starting to think and you and I are cullinary soul mates!
  23. I work in healthcare quality on the weekends... and my department is ALL female. I call it Quality Miss Management...
