  1. They ought to turn it into a nursing home... er... I mean... retirement community.
  2. I knew Hobbs from working Camping at the ROA for several years - yeah, he does his own thing but somehow conforms enough to say IN - that I don't get, but I'm not suprised he's still around... good people!
  3. THE EVAN! Good to cyber-see you! We're about 30 min. south of Laconia - I work there sometimes still. It hasn't changed one bit. We're in the Alton Bay area - at the tip of the lake. I love our location because we're an hour or so from about anything you'd want to visit - mountains, lakes, ocean, state forests, etc. - great area to raise kids! Yes, Nashua has turned into a bed-room community for Boston with the prices and cost of living to match! What was LaCroix's first name? (Wonderin' cuz I know some....) Thanks!
  4. So.... you're apologizing for being "human"? We've all had these moments - transgressions, sins, whatever you wish to call them.... <_< Whoops. I just used the word "wish", didn't I? A thousand pardons or hail Marys or lashes with a wet noodle or whatever you're into...
  5. I got past the watches too, but got clobbered by the wording on those button... But I'm Supreme Nerd (92%) on the nerdtest.
  6. Belle - Thanks! That's good info you shared and I appreciate it. This is the first time I've ever looked for a specific breed of dog - usually pets find me. It's been an interesting process. I've learned that most breeders and rescue fanatics are... well.... a little eccentric. Anyone else notice this? I had one woman telling me her dog wouldn't work out in my house because the dog is "type A" and has to have a very set schedule. (I got a mind picture of a dog with a PDA... Gimme a break. It was all because I said my husband worked long hours in the school year and was home a lot in the summer - heck, I thought that was a bonus. I guess she thought the dog would have a problem with that!)
  7. My ex-husband and I were Jerome's spritiual partners. I'd like to hear from him too, but for a different reason... I want to hear his side of what happened when he left.
  8. Shame on him! Using money to help others rather than making some rich ministers even richer! OF ALL THE NERVE! (Others should take a page outta his book - damn greedy HQ!)
  9. Eagle - I'm about an hour from Mach-Vegas. What's cookin'? I just realized how old this thread was... "Hubby, baby and I are in the Lakes Region area and lovin' it!" HA! Try... Hubby, the baby who is now going into 1st Grade next year, and our 2 year old - are in the Lakes Region area and still lovin' in!
  10. New Hampshire has a lot of these qualities. If you live in the Lakes Region or seacoast area, then you're likely to make more money and be able to walk to work. We have no sales tax and no state income tax. The state motto is "Live Free or Die". Motorcyclists can ride without a helmet and there's no seatbelt laws (not that I think these are GOOD things - but that's more to give you an idea of the NH attitude.) NH is also one of the highest pet adoption states in the union - we have dogs and cats shipped up here to find them homes because the adoption rate is over 90%. If you're interested in a visit, I'm a damn good tour guide because I love my state!
  11. That's because both headlights are really dim and they can't see to move forward - it's easier to look behind.
  12. Vegan - The organization in TX does all that - home inspection, etc. and they require a fenced in yard. We were planning to fence the yard this spring anyhow, because of the kids. We live in a school zone in our town - the speed limit is supposed to be 35mph - but it's rarely observed. (Yes, we've complained about it to police but they can't sit out 24/7 for speeders.) So, we're working on making things safer for everyone here. My feeling about this if we didn't have a good enviroment for the dog, then we wouldn't be good pet owners - it just wouldn't work for us or the dog (and the dog would get the short end of the stick!) I've submitted a reference from my vet and some personal refs with my application - I hope to hear from them soon. I'm still looking locally, but I'm not so much into buying - I'd rather give the $$ to rescue.

    Guitar Talk

That reminds of that radio skit on the Dr. Demento show "Wet Dream" - My Barracuda was in the shop, so I was in a rented Stingray, and it was overheating. So I pulled into a Shell station; they said I'd blown a seal.
  14. LOL - very cute! My husband has a song he sings about Mormons... (To the tune of "That's Amore!") "When a guy rides a bike with a shirt and a tie That's a Mormon!"
  15. (psst - that was tongue in cheek)
  16. What did he say that made you think he was Danish?
  17. Are you afraid to pray? Or are you afriad you'll disappoint "leadership" with your prayer? I hated being assigned a prayer to pray in fellowship, which had become empty and ritualistic anyhow. It was always the same and we just went through the paces with little heart. Warm bodies in the same seats night after night. It was always the same and change or revolution was not welcome. People were beaten down for their ideas, for reading outside the lesson plan for that day or week or month, and for not turning in their schedules or other menial things that mean nothing to God. TWI had become a broken cistern - little content could be held in it, of any. The heart of the ministry was dead and no spiritual CPR could ever bring it back. There's nothing wrong with praying like a child, if your heart is in it. Screw what other people think about your prayers - that's between you and God - none of their freakin' business. I learned to pepper my prayers (in twig) with lots of buzzwords.... yaddy yaddy yaddy Present Truth yaddy yaddy yaddy Strong Household yaddy yaddy yaddy Prevailing Word yaddy yaddy yaddy Abundance and Power yaddy yaddy yaddy Truth of this Day and Time yaddy yaddy yaddy Called to Your Word yaddy yaddy yaddy ....
  18. Training staff at HQ means less staff they'll have to pay to work, since WC work for free - or actually, they WC pay to work! I wonder if this means that the current WC training coordinators (B0lch@lks) will move to HQ or move on.
  19. Radar, I've found a rescue in TX that does out of state adoptions. It seems that the breed I'm interested in is part of the puppy mill chain and there's lots of rescues. I've completed an application and I think we're going have a home visit first. We are in the process of fencing in our yard and I'm hoping to have that completed before the visit.
  20. WW - Yes, or if they have a website - I'd like to know more. I just checked them out - they don't have any Pembrokes right now but they do have some very nice dogs... (psst - RADAR - they have a bunch of Pugs!)
  21. Thanks for the advice. Just to clarify - I'm not getting this thru a puppydotcom deal or anything of the sort, but thru a Welsh Corgi rescue league. Papers and all that are no matter to me at all, as I don't wish to get into breeding or showing. I'm also NOT a puppy person - I prefer adult dogs, mainly because they're easier to work with and aren't going through all those weird, wacky puppy stages. I've always been into rescue vs. buying a dog just because there's so many great dogs out there for adoption. However, I think the thing that is different about this time is that I have my heart set on a specific breed of dog. That being said... Let's hear it for those MAJOR PETS!! WHOO-HOO!
  22. I am in the process of looking for a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for a family pet and to possibly get into therapy dog training, if the dog has a great temperment. It's been too long since I've had a dog and miss having one in the house. I have been working with many of the rescues in my area but have found that there is fierce competition for these dogs in this area. (I had no idea they were that popular - but then NH is one of the best states for trying to adopt out dogs.) Anyhow, does anyone have any experience with out-of-state adoptions and shipping a dog? I'm a little nervous about it... Thanks!
