I get so mad when I read that document I could just spit... $2,812,771.17 for a medical fund and yet when I was on staff not that long ago we were asked not to pursue any medical needs unless they were deemed ABSOLUTELY necessary by leadership. Married couples who wanted to start familes or even found themselves preggers had to check with leadership before bringing a little life into the world. But they were sitting on all this $$$$$ llike a fat hen! So they squabble about the cost of Mrs. W's care like kids on a playground?! Her legacy is some of that $$$! I see they didn't list Loy Boy as a liability... They missed that one!

Steve -- I've done this. Then it's grabbed by "Notepad" so I can't launch it to go thru the install. If I click on it, it tries to place the program in a text format, which it can't do. So, I'm back where I was before only now I have a download that's useless. What's next? Thanks!

If TWI were in bankrupcy, what would you bid on at the auction?
ChasUFarley replied to IMF777's topic in About The Way
I want a cushman - wheeeee! The skunk pelt to line my cat's bed... One of the big, big screen TVs they bought... Oh, yeah - my trust. I want it BACK! (I hadn't seen catcup's post before I posted this) I'd now venture to say she & I aren't the only ones wanting non-tangible items. -
I have Netscape - I don't think it's the browser - methinks it's the plug in.... How do I get the thing installed? Why does notepad think it's a notepad document and won't let me open it?

I can't get into the chat room and feel like I'm stuck in download hell. When I go into the page for the chat room I'm asked to click on this icon that looks like a puzzle piece for the download. This takes me to another page for sun java or something like that. I click on the link for the down load, right mouse click, select "save as" and save it to my desktop (bad habit I know, but I always move it later). The notepad thinks the download is a notepad document. I can't launch it to run the exe. (I assume there's an exe in there because it's a plug in, right?) I'm so frustrated... !@@@$ #%#%$ #%$ #%$!!! What am I doing wrong?

Not to derail this thread, but was the skunkpelt worn by the current stinker in the pres position? Wasn't it on display in the WOW Auditorium (now called the VPW Prevailing Word Auditorium - or something likw that....)

Why are Wierwille's Sins Excuseable and Martindale's Not?
ChasUFarley replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
My answer to this question is based on my time in TWI 88-00 and personal observations. Take this as a disclaimer or ownership - whichever suits you. Martindale seemed to leave a wake of destruction during his administration which is still being felt today. Families were split up during the homo purge, homes that would have increased in value were sold to get rid of debt, and standards that were almost unobtainable were set for people to follow. "Ye shall know them by their fruit." If he'd had as many meetings, outings, reporting-backs, reading Way Rags, listening to STS tapes, etc. AND working, AND family, he'd have been too tired to play patty cake. VPW seemed more human - I've heard conflicting stories about what he was like, but from the 78 (?) Advanced Class tapes I saw, he seemed venerable at times. Again, I never met him - he had died before I came aboard. LCM was too proud to show that side of himself. It would be 'admitting weakness'. I mean, the man thought he was freakin' Joshua, fer cryin' out loud! What an ultra-maroon! But yet, he didn't have the discipline - he lost his cool all the time in the name of "godly" anger - when he was really just a hot-head. Finally, I've found in reviewing this topic, I really don't feel I have issues with either 'leader' but with the snow job or damage control that took place after certain things were brought to light. I'm talking about the lawsuit and LCM - TWI was busier than a cat in a litterbox trying to cover that load of crap. IF they had just said HE DID IT. And if he had said he was SORRY and taken appropriate ownership for his actions, I don't think TWI would have seen the decline in numbers it saw. I do approve of the fact they de-throned the stinker. I don't approve of the fact that his 'family' is still there or that he wasn't M&A'ed as was done to others who did far less... -
CC - the **'s around twin sister means I'm saying it tongue in cheek - like, my boss, although female, has the same freakin' ego problem and I have to work around it to get anything done (and not get screamed at)... I did meet LCM's sister Kerry once - she was very sweet and nothing like her brother. Other than her nose (which she joked about herself)...
-
I hear ya Raf - but the weird part about it all is I remember when the guy first made the statement about keeping it simple, or whatever it was, that I said to my husband, "Oh, s#it..." and started counting. I don't think I got to the number 4 when LCM flipped his lid. I'd spent enough time around leadership back then to know he was going to go into orbit. The dude wasn't spouting the company line at the time and anything that smelled like someone taking initiative was just plain BAD... You had to walk, talk, dress, etc., like him (or the Stepford Wives, for the women) or you were singled out. (I work for LCM's *twin sister*, I swear - at least I had practice on dealing with this kind of ego before...)
-
I was there - I can't speak for freeman but I would have to say *it* was LCM's perceived notion that someone was trying to run the show. I never did see what the guy did - i.e. ripping off the arm band - but I remember LP running after him for damage control. I'd love to know where that guy is now. (I bet he wasn't at the ROA that night after that!)

Mr. Mosh - My hat is off to you - incredible! This worked immediately - it just sort of 'appeared' on the screen when I pasted it in place. Shockwave & awe!

Thanks to all for your input. You've basically confirmed what I had thought but wanted to hear from the voices of experience, which you all have done... I do have Dreamweaver - now, could the info from a table in DW be imported to Excel or Access for a spreadsheet (read: mail merge)? (I doubt it, but thought I'd ask.)

Problem: Client needs a web page that will have manditory form fields for visitors to fill in and submit (contact information). Currently, he has a Word document download for this that isn't working the way he'd like it to (and it's cheesy!) Solution: Redesign the page using a program that will ask for the information required. This can be done using Access, but would take a long time to build. I've been told that FrontPage can do this and the client says for me to buy it. I want to make sure he's getting the most bang for his buck - I know the rest of Office 2000 really well, but haven't used FrontPage in years... Question: Is FrontPage worth the $$? Will it really do what the client is looking for (and more?)

I was in the Binkley's branch in Nashville in the 90's. I can't believe that Donald Howard Kenneth is going to be 8 - I remember changing his diaper! Anyhow, yes, Kenny became an LCM wanna be - big time. I had never come across anyone in a leadership position before that I actually tried to kick out of my house because of the way he spoke to me & my family like I did to this guy. HE was arrogant, rude and proud of it. Debbie was just the opposite. If there was ever two people who I felt were grossly mis-matched, it's those two... Maybe it's a case of opposites attract but she is more refined than anyone I've ever met, and he... well you know my feelings....

Cult Eye for the Un-Cult Guy
ChasUFarley replied to Seth's topic in Getting help for cult dysfunction
Okay, first we have to define the cast: Bud - The big, burley WC grad who works a blue collar job, has two kids and a submissive wife. Uses the f-word in teachings and still wears ties from the 80's. Thinks that The Three Stooges are funny. Dave - has a big mustche and gives even bigger hugs. Life is nothing but grace to Dave and his Bible has more notes in it than anyone elses. Rob - Recent WC grad and zealot. Carries a briefcase and is current on the "Present Truth." Has the 'corporate' look. Plays golf, has designer clubs but never has a dime to his name. Lori - tiny & cute, she packs a punch. Makes a mean cinnimon roll but can reprove the crack off your butt. Brings a lot of guys to fellowship and has been in TWI since she was in diapers. Pam - has a heart the size of TX but can't understand why everyone isn't early to set up for every meeting. Their vehicle: No, not a GMC Envoy... it's a Ford Winstar! (Paid for, of course!) Their license plate: No, not FAB5 - DOULOS5 Their first case: Henry, a 35 year old, cross-dresser, accountant from New Jersey. He has a mortgage, auto loan on a Toyota Solora and over $15K in credit card debt. Henry also has two major pets (dogs), was raised Jewish and has never heard of TWI... -
**DISCLAIMER** I haven't read all the posts on this thread, so if someone has already mentioned this, please don't roast me... But I can't help but to be troubled by a comment that I read when this whole story broke, and that was that Mrs. W, did NOT seems to ge tthe medications she needed for her condition. I KNOW there were some RNs on staff when I was there - it wasn't that long ago. WHY did she go without meds? It sounds as though there was awareness of her symptoms. Has anyone addressed this? (Or was no one authorized to go to Canada to get the cheaper meds because they'd be burning gas for a company with non-prof. status?)

Well, I saw the light and got hubby to see it last week - we're getting a new computer. I'm using my old one right now, as I am carefully shopping around... The fact he was clueless as to what to get me for an anniversary present helped, I must say. (All women are opportunists - I just happen to be a professional one!) Hubby's computer is now in the morgue - it's a hopeless case. John - I've taken your advise and killed a lot of the back applications that were running which brought it down to 85% and none of the lock up problems I was experiencing. I just have Explorer and Systray running, which is all I need. I knew about closing out of those before and always did when I was doing graphics or something of the sort. I just get lazy sometimes, I guess. Anyhow, I'll keep you posted on what I end up with. I'm really excited because I feel like I can make an educated decision this time... Thanks again y'all!

Help! Terminal cancer patient needs alternatives
ChasUFarley replied to Mary Cate's topic in Health, Wellness, and Fitness
Mary - I'm very sorry to hear about your situation with your mother and pray you can find her the best care to meet her needs. I'm in healthcare quality management at a regional hospital in NH and often get letters like this... My advise is: 1. Get her to her PCP/local provider. Find out if she may benefit from a consult with hemoc/onocology. Ask about getting her involved with a pain managment program. Ask about a referral to a holostic MD. Ask them about what to expect with her condition? What symptoms should have that would prompt a visit to your ER? Ask about nutrition and other measures that can be taken to make her more comfortable. 2. Ask about a comminuty health and hospice program in your area. There are programs which are government funded which are at no or low cost to the patient. They provide education, care, comfort and support to terminal patients and their families. 3. Get educated. Ask as many questions as you can about her condition, treatment, progniosis, medications. Use your local community, PCP, etc. for information. There's a lot on the web, too, but be careful. Most communities have these programs in place but I don't know if your area is like mine and there is little known about them. Another resource to check with is a community or inpatient social worker in your local hospital - they can be a wealth of information and assistance... Stay strong. Keep us posted. -Krista -
John R - Thanks a million for the advise. I've been studying for my A+ certification and it has occurred to me that I could do some different upgrades, but hadn't a clue where to start. Of course the monitor was a no-brainer - but I didn't know what to do from there... I'm going to do that with my computer, which is the more up-to-date one of the two that hubby & I have. I have a CP 5451 and it has more slots for upgrades, which is why I chose it. That, and it was steal - someone had opened the box but not set it up. I'm going to also upgrade my CD-R while I'm at it, because the one I have now is something like 4X, I think - which can be painfully slow when burning hi-res digital images. I don't really need a DVD drive, as I've heard they can be high-maintaince and need alignments once a year - no thanks! Hubby's poor lil' PC still isn't totally well and we've had to run the system recovery disk on it a couple of times now. I'm not sure where to go next, but it needs help... Here's the specs on my 'puter (below). Is there anything else you can recommend I do to make my computer perform better?: Processor: AMD-K6 3D processor 500 MHz -BIOS: Award Software -Bus Type: PCI,ISA,USB -Ports: 1 Parallel, 1 Serial --Memory: 88.0 MB (100% Utilized) -Floppy Disks: 1.44 MB -Hard Disks: 12.59 GB -MultiMedia: Sound, CD-ROM You know, all these options are amazing now... I remember when having a gig of memory was a BIG DEAL! That wasn't all that long ago now... My first was a Tandy 64K CoCo... (Am I dating myself, here?!?) Thanks again for your help!!!!!! -Krista

IT'S HEALED**IT'S HEALED**IT'S HEALED**IT'S HEALED** Hubby fixed it! What a guy! Hubby inseted the recovery disk but pulled it out before it could load, let the OS screen come up and then his little PC went into safe mode. Then, using the recovery disk, he re-booted and his computer was somewhat back to normal. We've spent the past couple of days futzing around with various Norton applications - it seems there were some bad sectors on it but no virus to be found. YIPPEE! We thought it was toast! Now, about those Macs... Paw is right about the viruses not bothering Macs as much, and since there isn't an O/S like there is with PCs, then they don't crash as much. Macs have as much software as PCs available to them - if you're worried about getting Office, there is Microsoft Office X for Mac. Mac has far better graphic design programs for it, as Mac is the industry standard for printing and just about every other media. Did you know that the LOTR movies special effects and cuttings were produced on Macs? I've give my eye teeth for one of those new G5s that are out now - just reading the specs on them makes one drool... I'll have a new G5 at about the same time I can afford a new Lexus! (I'll wait for a re-firbished one...) Until then... dreaming is free!

PG- I've heard the same - I did a friend finder thread on her some time ago too and got the same response.

**HELP****HELP****HELP****HELP****HELP****HELP****HELP****HELP** I can't seem to start a new thread on this forum so please forgive Chazzy for posting this here... Hubby's computer is not well. When we go to boot it up, we get the HP splash screen and then the black screen, which usually preceeds the Windows 98 splash screen - EXCEPT - the screen stops with the black screen and gives an error message: Operating System not found We've tried booting it up several times , hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete, tried to C:Windows, etc. - it's not a DOS mode, tho... Anyway - what can we do to get Windows up and running? BTW - this has happened in the past and just shutting it off and turning it back on usually worked. No such luck today! Thanks for your help!!!!

A very happy birthday to you! Make sure Mom gives you cake for every meal on your special day and don't forget to share some with your hampster (whatever her... his... er? name is)!

This morning Mathman ran an errand to Dunkin Doughnuts for a scone for me - my guilty pleasures! As he handed me the bag, Kristopher, our 22 month old son, intercepted it, shoved his little hand in it and ran off with mommy's breakfast before either one of us could grab him. (And this is the same kid that we thought would be crawling on his first date!) I've come to accept that nothing is sacred! My wish is to enjoy life's simple pleasures, maybe get a good meal out or have one cooked for me and to call hubby to take care of the nuclear diapers - just because I can! Oh, and one more thing... to get what's left of my scone back!
