MCC - Welcome to GSC! This may be an odd question and I'm not asking it to make you go away - honest! But... Why haven't you asked your parent(s) about it? I mean, wouldn't they be able to more directly address your questions about the vitamins or supplements that you were made to take when you were a little tyke? Again, I'm not throwing this out there to make you feel unwelcomed - Also -- You might want to try posting your question on the Way Corps forum... If there isn't a thread for "Family 10" then maybe you could start one... Just some thoughts...

Hubby & I were on the second day of our honeymoon in St John, New Brunswick. We were headed to Digby, Nova Scotia that day and had boarded a small cruise ship for the short trip (I think it was like 4 hours or something). "Hey! Mr. A!" someone yelled. I knew from the handle of "Mr. A" that it was someone hubby had had as a student (he's a public high school math teacher in NH). (He's called "Mr. A because he had a very long Greek last name). Seems that one of the guys who worked on the boat was a student of his years ago - we can never get away from former students who have had "Mr. A". ==================== Here's another one: An RN that I work with and have even shared an office with, were talking late one afternoon after work. We had become quite close and I disclosed that I had been involved in a 'religious organization - like a cult' for several years. She disclosed that her husband had been with "some group called The Way" for a few years - HOLY COW! I couldn't believe it! I told her briefly about my experience - talk about a moment of 'bonding'! WOW!

Lindy -- Since you're out of the protection of the household you should know that "accidents" are bound to happen. Had you been in allignment and harmony with the will of God and not left the ministry that taught you the Word, then God would have been able to stay the hand of the adversary. You were the conduit of the adversary for distracting your mother from the Word that she needed to hear - afterall the second front of the adversary is other people - YOU! Nevermind car accidents or cutting off your finger - how many people do you know who never went home to visit a sick or dying loved one? How about attending funerals of close relatives? There's too damn many of these stories - I know of plenty! There's something like this going on right now that Shellon talks about on her thread about being a new grandmother, as her deceased husband's family is 'innies' but aren't exactly welcoming the new baby because Shellon, her daughter, etc., are not 'innies' too. How sad is that?

Steriods were much easier to get in the 80's - they are much more controlled now than they were before and if you've ever lifted at a gym where there are a lot of power lifters then you can usually pick out the juiced ones - they are just unnaturally bulked up and usually have 'chicken legs' in contrast to their massive chests and glutes. Amongst real lifters they are looked down on - it's probably different in the body building community but I don't know much about that... I wasn't into body buliding - just strength training. I can tell you that there are supplements on the market - legal supplements - that can give many of the same advantages that juicing can. They have to be taken more often - not cycled - and have overall less side-effects. Most lifters I know would increase usage with upcoming competitions and then lessen usages at non-competitive times. There are still side-effects - no doubt about it - with the supplements. Somethings this article doesn't address - juicers usually tear muscles more than regular lifters because their tendons and frame are equipped to handle the bulk of the muscles they develop. There's more damage to major organs - especially the liver - than the article discusses. Also, there are sexual side-effects that weren't addressed. In reading this article I seriously doubt there's a real "Bill" or that there's a "Bill's wife" - she'd be due sainthood for living with a man injecting the crap he was supposedly into... Atheletes who are serious about their sport and their bodies - pureists - know better than to play with this kind of fire. They also have more respect and better quality of life because they aren't compromising their health with these types of chems!

CoolChef -- I can answer your question. It's all about paying respects to the deceased. It goes beyond just the pope... *Elvis is dead. *The pope is dead. *There's thousands of people dead from the WTC. Wacky posted that she didn't get why everyone was so into going to Rome to pay their last respects to the pope and then the thread branched into why people pay respects to other dead people(s) - famous and otherwise... I mentioned Graceland because Elvis is an American icon and the anniversary of his death is still a big to-do. Some people would have more respect for Elvis than JP2... some don't give a flip about any of them... personally, I agree with Groucho's comment, above. But that's just me. Hope this helps.

I remember the LC's in AL when I was there telling about how they were teaching their young daughter the proper words for body parts. They had explained that boys had penises and that girls had viginas. The Lc's wife was grocery shopping one day with one of the girls and heard her singing. She wasn't paying real close attention to her daughter's song but noticed she was getting some strange looks from other shoppers. Then she heard the verse, "...boys have penises! Girls have viginas! Boys have penises! Girls have..."

This is someone else's embarassing moment - I'm glad it's not mine - but it's one of those things that you *know* could happen to you someday.... I was working as a customer service rep for a large off-set printing company in Maine and one of my fellow CSRs though she was hot stuff - real cocky, thought all the guys in the plant were *in lust* with her, etc. - I'm sure you've probably met the type... One day, she had used the bathroom just off the plant but about 70 yards from the office, she decided to cut through the plant floor to get to the office. She had also worn a long skirt that day. (You women who have done this probably know what's coming next...) As she crossed the plant floor about half way back to the office she noticed she had forgotten something in one of the foreman's offices, so she backtracked to get it. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how she never felt the breeze on her @$$ because her skirt was tucked all the way into her pantyhose - she had "mooned" about 150 people TWICE through the whole plant floor that day!

You know what I'm finding interesting about this thread about "big lips"? A lot of the starletts mentioned are also gay icons! They're attractive to men and men who wish they were women!
-
WF - But would you go to Graceland to see Elvis' gravesite? :-)
-
WF - Suggestion (I mean this in the kindest sort of way - not snide - just passing on what I've found out myself...) : Learn a little more about him - read some of his works / transcripts and I think you'll appreciate more of who he was and what he was trying to accomplish. For one thing, he was one of the main players in ending communism. It is quite possible that we would still be in the "Cold War" if it was not for him.

Bill -- Are you the Bill who was WOW with Jacomo (sp?) and brought a bunch of weightlifting equipment out with you? (Is it true that you burned out the breaks on a car on the way out to ID?)...??

What Did Wierwille Know & When Did He Know It?
ChasUFarley replied to Oakspear's topic in About The Way
I think the more appropriate question for this thread is: "What did Wierwille know and when did he STOP CARING?" -
Galen - Yes, the LDS church does do PP but it's more like what's done with the WC when they graduate or when a couple is married and a word of prophsey is given - it's not a whole lot about the future but more like words of edification - in other words, it's pretty generic... ====================== It's a good thing we're in the "grace administration" with this pp stuff because according to the Old Testament a true phrophet was known by his words coming true... when it didn't come true then he was stoned! ====================== For me, the CES pp thing has a "Want-fries-with-that-manifestation?" feel to it... Phrophets shouldn't be a dime-a-dozen and the hit-n-miss experiences people have had tells me it's not totally from God... I'm sure some of it is but... I thought it was a gift - not a manifesation.... I had a chance to have it done once at a meeting but thought it was a bunch of bunk. After reading this thread I think I had a good snapshot of it back then....

Question: Was Mike Martin a recording artist or whatever before TWI? Anyone know?
-
MATILDA - As WOWs in Fresno, CA (we were famous for causing sooo much trouble - just ask Radar) we invented "The Burp Game" - you could get up to 3 points for volume, up to 3 points for length, and 4 points if you tasted something (that was for you to report)... A perfect burp got a 10 - my WOW brothers got that score and one of my WOW sisters (who is now married to a heavy-revvie and lodging at Gunnison) could seriously hold her own... (I am not adept at this at all!) So... When those of us who think we have mundane lives and want to live vicariously thru the famous or infamous, just remember "The Burp Game" as you're revisiting your lunch.... ;-)

Gone With The Wind (??) (I'm puzzled because that last quote is certainly from Gone With The Wind, but I'm not so sure about the previous two quotes...)
-
You guys know Mike Bloskey (sp?) or Judy (can't think of her last name right now... she was an RN...)??
-
Sad thing - this probably could have been prevented if people had WASHED THEIR HANDS before stuffing their faces with fried dough or cotton candy...

I would think it would be attitude that would make women more attractive to men than just their lips, a$$ or whatever... Ever see those women who can attract men from miles around but aren't exactly a "10" - they're just real self-confident... Usually they're the women who don't 'need' a man... Melanie Griffith and some of these other starlets are just doing what they think will make them look younger. In tinsel town youth = work. So it's survival for them. Personally, I think they're starting to look like Chris Rock around the mouth... or that they've got massive overbites... As far as Angelina Jolie goes... after watching her chew on her brother's lips like they were loves at some awards ceremony a couple of years ago, I hate to think where those lips have been! I mean.... eeeeewwwwwwwww! She's a pig, really.

He was an amazing man and had an influence on the world and its leaders like no other. I am glad he is no longer suffering and wish I'd taken the time to know more about him - from what little I have learned about him, he seems to have been someone who loved life to the fullest and had a great heart for helping people on any level that he served God's people on.

Belle -- Each state has its own laws about this. Some states no longer allow it. As ckeer suggested, check with a medical college in your area. I would also suggest that if you're serious about this that you involve a lawyer to make sure your last wishes are carried out. Better yet - donate your organs - this includes vital tissues - which you can do on your driver's license in most states (I think TN allows this, if I remember correctly). You would be amazed at what organs and tissues are harvested and how they are put to use for many, many people in need.

What goes best with crawfish or fried okra? BEER! I got 17/20 - but I didn't get those lines the same size.... damn.

Here's the link to the Advance Directives forms I promised: http://www.uslivingwillregistry.com/forms.shtm If you scroll down the page you will find where all the states are listed. Just click on your state to go to the page and print the forms. By the way, if you need to have your forms notorized most non-profit hospitals have public noteries on staff who will witness and stamp your documents for FREE. (You can also check with your local library or town hall - but the hospitals are your best bet.) p.s. Please excuse my spelling tonight... this cat is dog tired!

In another thread Shellon talks about Advance Directives... I'm not sure how many of you posters know what that is, exactly... I didn't until I went to work in a hospital. In my line of work, healthcare quality management, I see a lot of cases where people do not have this in the medical records and their families are forced to make difficult decisions under very stressful circumstances. This information below is a copy-n-paste from familydoctor.org. Please do yourself and your family a favor - complete your advanced directives. I'll include a link in my following post where you can get the forms for your state.... =============================================== Advance Directives and Do Not Resuscitate Orders What is an advance directive? An advance directive tells your doctor what kind of care you would like to have if you become unable to make medical decisions (if you are in a coma, for example). If you are admitted to the hospital, the hospital staff will probably talk to you about advance directives. A good advance directive describes the kind of treatment you would want depending on how sick you are. For example, the directives would describe what kind of care you want if you have an illness that you are unlikely to recover from, or if you are permanently unconscious. Advance directives usually tell your doctor that you don't want certain kinds of treatment. However, they can also say that you want a certain treatment no matter how ill you are. Advance directives can take many forms. Laws about advance directives are different in each state. You should be aware of the laws in your state. What is a living will? A living will is one type of advance directive. It only comes into effect when you are terminally ill. Being terminally ill generally means that you have less than six months to live. In a living will, you can describe the kind of treatment you want in certain situations. A living will doesn't let you select someone to make decisions for you. What is a durable power of attorney for health care? A durable power of attorney (DPA) for health care is another kind of advance directive. A DPA states whom you have chosen to make health care decisions for you. It becomes active any time you are unconscious or unable to make medical decisions. A DPA is generally more useful than a living will. But a DPA may not be a good choice if you don't have another person you trust to make these decisions for you. Living wills and DPAs are legal in most states. Even if they aren't officially recognized by the law in your state, they can still guide your loved ones and doctor if you are unable to make decisions about your medical care. Ask your doctor, lawyer or state representative about the law in your state. What is a do not resuscitate order? A do not resuscitate (DNR) order is another kind of advance directive. A DNR is a request not to have cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if your heart stops or if you stop breathing. (Unless given other instructions, hospital staff will try to help all patients whose heart has stopped or who have stopped breathing.) You can use an advance directive form or tell your doctor that you don't want to be resuscitated. In this case, a DNR order is put in your medical chart by your doctor. DNR orders are accepted by doctors and hospitals in all states. Most patients who die in a hospital have had a DNR order written for them. Patients who are not likely to benefit from CPR include people who have cancer that has spread, people whose kidneys don't work well, people who need a lot of help with daily activities, or people who have severe infections such as pneumonia that require hospitalization. If you already have one or more of these conditions, you should discuss your wishes about CPR with your doctor, either in the doctor's office or when you go to the hospital. It's best to do this early, before you are very sick and are considered unable to make your own decisions. Should I have an advance directive? Most advance directives are written by older or seriously ill people. For example, someone with terminal cancer might write that she does not want to be put on a respirator if she stops breathing. This action can reduce her suffering, increase her peace of mind and increase her control over her death. However, even if you are in good health, you might want to consider writing an advance directive. An accident or serious illness can happen suddenly, and if you already have a signed advance directive, your wishes are more likely to be followed. How can I write an advance directive? You can write an advance directive in several ways: Advance directives and living wills do not have to be complicated legal documents. They can be short, simple statements about what you want done or not done if you can't speak for yourself. Remember, anything you write by yourself or with a computer software package should follow your state laws. You may also want to have what you have written reviewed by your doctor or a lawyer to make sure your directives are understood exactly as you intended. When you are satisfied with your directives, the orders should be notarized if possible, and copies should be given to your family and your doctor. Can I change my advance directive? You may change or cancel your advance directive at any time, as long as you are considered of sound mind to do so. Being of sound mind means that you are still able to think rationally and communicate your wishes in a clear manner. Again, your changes must be made, signed and notarized according to the laws in your state. Make sure that your doctor and any family members who knew about your directives are also aware that you have changed them. If you do not have time to put your changes in writing, you can make them known while you are in the hospital. Tell your doctor and any family or friends present exactly what you want to happen. Usually, wishes that are made in person will be followed in place of the ones made earlier in writing. Be sure your instructions are clearly understood by everyone you have told.
