We gave a gift certificate for the Olive Garden to both the princess' regular classroom teacher and her gifted program teacher. I figured we'd give something I'd appreciate receiving.

I'm interested in what inspired such a statement. Have there been new developments? Was there an offer of settlement???

Mr. H - it's not to be embarassed about - it's all in how you look at the situation. Losing a sub could be embarassing, OR, it could be a sign of life - dead folks don't lose anything...

I was shocked to find out recently that there is a form at my daughter's public elementary school that I "can" sign if I want the principal to "paddle" my child during the school day should they deem it necessary. We just moved last summer from FL where it's really out of style to spank kids at all. Now we live in MO and I can authorize the school principal to paddle my kid?!? Feels like the Twilight Zone... I'm presently learning about ADD and ADHD from some very close friends and it's no picnic to deal with. I don't pretend to know what's going on with that little girl or what's the best way to handle her. All I know is that what I saw on the news is not what I know to be normal 5-year-old behavior. My prayers are with that little girl and whoever is attempting to deal with her.

We finally made it for breakfast with the !'s and Ex-way Daryl Sunday morning. Their company was definitely worth the trip! We had a truly lovely meal together and a good visit afterwards. Really the only thing I feel free to say about the experience is what happens at the !'s, stays at the !'s. --> I have to say, I've never seen anyone make an omelet quite like Steve! - a site to behold, for sure! I'm delighted with so many of the GreaseSpotters I've met so far. Being a mother of one kid at a time, I'm continually impressed with how y'all handle so many at once, maintaining peace in the home and well, just plain calling them by their right names - my hat's off to ya! I'm really sorry to have missed Second James - I was so looking forward to meeting you in person, along with dmiller and others. Oh well, better luck next time ;)-->

Happy Birthday, Hope! Many, many more!

We're staying at the Wyndham Glenview Saturday night - same price as the Ramada, but has an indoor pool. We always try to get an indoor pool. We're planning to be at the !'s at 4 tomorrow. Can't wait to see those we know and meet those we haven't known already. Five years already? Yowza, yowza, yowza!!!

Did Terri Schiavo's parents ever try to get guardianship?
bowtwi replied to waterbuffalo's topic in Open
For the record, I worked at that nursing home and I know that LPNs WERE the supervisors (so to speak) on the floor 24/7. The nursing home has 3 levels of care: A Wing was for Rehab (where there WAS an RN on duty at all times, B Wing for Medicare patients and C wing, where Terri resided, for the private pay patients. The RN would come down to the B and C wings occasionally, but the floor was run by LPNs. -
Did Terri Schiavo's parents ever try to get guardianship?

I forgot to mention that it's been said that Michael wants to marry the woman he lives with that he's got two kids with. He wants to marry her in the Roman Catholic Church - can only do that if he becomes a widower, not if he divorces her or allows her parents to have custody. -
Did Terri Schiavo's parents ever try to get guardianship?

Well, my first job after being m & a'd by twi was in the nursing home Terri was in before she went to the Hospice House. I took care of her a lot over the two years I was there. She seemed to really enjoy oldies music. She seemed to be aware but unable to communicate anything clearly. I remember the sound of her groaning in pain from cramps every month. I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE SHE FEELS PAIN. They were planning her hysterectomy when I took another job. Michael came in to visit like he was a celebrity - strutting around barking orders, threatening to get people fired, bragging to the staff right in front of Terri about his life, talking about his girlfriend(s), acting like a drill sargeant grilling us about her daily showers. He did keep her in very nice and very stylish clothes. He attended St. Pete Jr. College for more than one degree - reportedly on the money he won on her behalf from the doc that prescribed diet pills she was taking when she had the heart attack. As I recall - there were specific requirements that he had to uphold in order to continue being her representative, one being that he hade to visit her at least once every day and there was a certain level of care he had to maintain to be able to spend her money. My understanding is that the money has run out or is about to. She may be considered indigent now, but where I took care of her was a private pay facility, and very expensive. It is a topnotch facility. It was usually unpleasant when he came to visit. Her parents and siblings seemed to genuinely want to be there to visit with her, but Michael was definitely "performing" when he came around. He seemed to be there mostly to be seen having been there. He didn't talk sweetly to Terri or really show any affection or personal connection. I never saw Michael there at the same time as her folks. Generally, I believe in living wills, but I see Terri as an exception to the rule. I think that her family should be able to take care of her. I don't know if that's the mom in me or the optimist that prays for her to wake up right now like that lady in Kansas City did after a 20 year coma recently or that guy in Arkansas last year that woke up from a 19 year coma. It could happen. And if it doesn't happen I still feel that it's better to err on the side of conservation and life. If she just laid there with her eyes closed and never moving at all I might see it differently, but only might. -
This case is really personal to me. I took care of Terri in a nursing home in the mid 90s. I was a nursing assistant. I can tell you that I saw her respond to stimuli. Not always, but enough that it sure seemed to me that she was in there somewhere, at least sometimes aware of what was going on around her. I worked there over two years and observed her daily even when I didn't personally take care of her. She loves oldies rock. I've heard of two recent cases where people have awakened from 19 and 20 year comas. I just happened to hear of them on the news - I imagine if I studied the subject I would find lots more. What if Terri might wake five or so years from now? Her parents and siblings are willing and able to tend to her. I pray she wakes up before she starves to death.

Has a date been set for a trial? I've heard a few different stories and rather than pass along useless information, does anyone have any definite dates or anything? I would like to be there in support of the Peelers.

The princess and I are flexible and would be up for any of those weekends. We live about 30 miles north of Kansas City in northwestern MO. We'd probably bring along at least one other person and maybe 6 or 7 others who hadn't technically been in twi, but have nonetheless been affected as tho they were green card signers. I've got plenty of time and energy to help plan...

Well hell, Belle - I'd have to say no. Since leaving twi I've found several churches that actually teach the Bible! In my town some of the denominations join together on projects and special events. It's exciting to see the Body of Christ functioning together. I think God would have been able to provide others to teach me what good I did get from twi - He's pretty powerful.

A walphin, you say? Cool, I'll try to get a picture to post. Sea Life Park - noted. We'll be staying on Oahu. The wedding is on Kaui. We figure we'll do a bunch of snorkeling and coral reef exploration too. It's shaping up to be an awesome adventure.

The princess and I will be in Hawaii for a month this summer. We'll be staying in a condo with friends who are going there for a wedding. So far our itinerary includes a tour of the Dole plant, the USS Missouri and Pearl Harbor, climbing Diamond Head and lots of days on the beach. We're going to attend a lu-ow ;(I'll have to learn how to spell that word) and take a lesson in making leis. We found a church we may check out. Oh yeah, and Blue Hawaii, of course. The kids have been watching that movie on DVD this past week and they really seem to love it! There's some tourist thing there, too. Any suggestions on what not to miss or what to be sure to miss? We'll be there mid summer.

I apologize for not getting back sooner. I saw Jim today. I asked him to post here about Stanley. He was right in the same room as his computer. I really thought he would have posted by now. He had told me about a month ago that he had sent Stanley to Zshot. A couple weeks ago I told him Stanley was reportedly not with Zshot yet. At that time Jim said that he had received Stanley back in the US mail, that the address he had been given for Zshot must have been inaccurate. Today he said that he had sent Stanley a few days ago. I have no idea what's really gone on. I'm just thankful WhiteDove was able to help salvage what can be saved of this project.
