If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

I so feel your pain! Bow jr is 26 and I remember that first day very well! It's all in how you look at it, Momma! I have found that by treating these milestones as Kodak moments, I take a lot of the sting out of the experience. Of course, I want wonderful pics to send around the country to family and close friends, so my focus is on the pictures more than how it feels to walk away from that classroom with him in there! I take lots and lots of pictures. It really helps me. My baby started 5th grade a couple weeks ago. I have a series of about 10 pictures of before school so far this year, which is a real treat for people who haven't seen us in a year and more! I imagine you talk with your kids a lot, as I do. You will be blown away with how he sees the classroom, the cloakroom, the playground, etc! This is the beginning of such a great time in your lives. Let me warn you tho, it doesn't get easier with the 2nd kid, like the mechanical things seem to. I'll be praying for your peaceful heart late tomorrow morning. This is so exciting!

When I met my ex-husband, he had a Subaru Brat -that sassy little truck with the 2 hard plastic seats in the back. It's what I learned to drive stick on. That was an awesome vehicle for the two of us. We camped every weekend weather permitted. When bow jr. came along he sold it and he got a Chevy Luv and I got Dad's old Ford Elite (another awesome car!), which had plenty of room for the carseat. Ha! Back then, 26 years ago carseats weren't required by law in WI. (I used one anyway.) Nor were safety belts for another 8 years. I'm starting to really feel like a grown-up these days. That is a very, very cool looking truck, Belle. I still haven't taken the plunge and replaced my Taurus with a VUE. Maybe I'll test drive a Baja before I do... Waiting for a pic of you in it! Enjoy your new Baja! You certainly deserve it!

Sudo is very generous with help for fellow posters with computer issues and is a major contributor to the enjoyment in the Nostalgia thread. His tree dancing is legendary and let's face it, he married Suda!!!

Arkie Ron, Good guess, but no - it has become a tradition for the youngest Rascal male child to take my camera and photograph at least one foot. It appears I am collecting them. Since this latest one was taken at Weenie Roast 2006 Part II, I included it in my samples of the fun we had at Rascal's Haven for your viewing pleasure. That boy is becoming quite a photographer, if I do say so myself.

I too try to keep mine about a quarter tank - altho I just took a road trip and let it go below that sometimes. I heard it was better for the engine to keep it at least at a quarter tank from my ex-husband and most of what he said turned out to be good advice.
-
Hope it's a great one!

Ummm,. Belle Darlin, my princess IS THE PERFECT age for Rascal's Aaron. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah - nah!!!
-
Here are a few more from Rascal's place.

I have some pics in my laptop and the later ones here on my desktop - I'll get them all together yet... Here's a shot of Rascal playing Amazing Grace for the princess.
-
Exactly, you got it! I was thinking it would be tough to communicate it very well - it seems such a "you had to be there" deal, but you've understood completely! Whew, close one! I even got to play a whole bunch of John Prine on the way home - such good company! I forget where it was, but $3.19 a gallon was the highest I paid. I forgot what the lowest was.

Here's CW, the princess, Scamps and bowtwi at CW's after arriving home from our 5 day most excellent adventure. What a great co-pilot CW is! She never once fell asleep on me! The only one time she wasn't on top of our exact location on the interstate was when she was busily removing junk out of my cell phone and putting the stuff I want in there in it - and it was all good cause I knew exactly where we were and how to get to St. Louis from East St. Louis. LOL Oh, and let me tell you, the woman has rhythm!!! What a chair dancer! We enjoyed a lot of the same music and indulged in Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, Eric Clapton, Cat Stevens, John Lennon, Steve Austin and some others as well as the main performer of the trip, John Hartford!!! I was extremely impressed with Corey Hawk's taste in music! And to watch Nathan dance was a sight for sore eyes! What great kids! We left CW's Friday and returned last night. Lots of miles, laughs, hugs, some tears - oh man, I'd do it again anytime! School starts here tomorrow so I have lots going on today - will send the pics to Sudo as soon as he sends me the proper email addy to send them to. HINT HINT

We're home!!! Just pulled in about 9:30 pm tonite after taking CW home. Woo wee! What a great time! The princess starts 5th grade Thursday of this week - lol - good thing we only have a little bit of shopping to finish! I'll post what I can tomorrow and send the pics to Sudo for editing. LOL Weenie Roasts ROCK!!!!

Well, a funny thing happened on our way back home from the roast. After our boat ride with the Hawk fellers, which was a treat beyond words in itself, the Hawk fellers headed home. Since it was just Coolwaters, the princess and myself, we decided not to stay that extra night at the park. It just wasn't the same without the other weenies there. So we figured we'd head home, stop halfway at a hotel with a pool and play some more. We had a 12-hour drive ahead of us. When we got to Louisville, I had a brilliant idea - at least we thought so. Since Rascal had a wreck that prevented her from attending the roast, and the princess was so good about the lack of kids her age to play with (the big boys were very kind to her and she had a blast with them), I called the Rascal home and found out she was at work and expected home around 9 pm. What luck! We could expect to arrive at their place about 9 or 9:30!!! If Rascal couldn't get to the roast, we could at least get some of it to her! The Hawks and Rascals were weenies from the start - they'd made the roast each year til now. So, I'm posting from Rascal's computer. The princess is in the creek with the younger Rascal girls. Aaron has my camera and is entertaining me as only he can and their middle boy is firing up the grill so we can eat the steaks we didn't get around to eating at the roast, as there was so much good food and so few people to consume it. Darn the bad luck! This was mine and the princess' third roast and it was as sweet as the others we'd been to. The Suds family is, um, well, has to be seen to be fully appreciated. If you've spoken with Sudo, you'd recognize Sud Jr. in any crowd. That boy can dance!!! Oh man, what a fine, fine dancer! I sort of expected Sudo to tone it down a bit, since his lovely bride was nearby, but you have not lived until you've seen those two together. They put the awe in awesome! When you see the pictures of them tree dancing, you'll see why they had to be together! Coolwaters was the belle of the ball. She was dancing with this one and dancing with that one! It was fabulous! I heard there was some moonshine and some wine, and a good time was had by all. Roy - I was hoping to see you there. I thought you were the most likely to show up. Maybe next year... I'm sending my pics to Sudo for him to edit and he will be posting them. I apologize that we probably won't be home til Tuesday, so I don't expect to be able to send them today. Trust me, they're worth the wait! We did say that we felt like only posting pics and then saying hey folks, come on and join us next year, but that was only because we really wished more could have made it. All I can say is better luck next year! Hope to see you there! Littlehawk Jr. is still as capable and helpful as ever, but now old enough to drive! He captained the boat under the watchful eye of Littlehawk his own self. As usual, the kindness and love for his fellow man just oozed out of Hawk. As it turned out, we weren't going to make it to Rascal's last night so we stopped at a motel and came on down today. Weenie Roast 2006 Part II, I guess. Oh man, does it ever feel good to be HERE again!
-
Cool - Wish you could be there! Maybe next year in the hills of Arkansas!

Weenie Roast 2006 is next weekend already! Woo hoo! The cabins have bedding, but we need to bring our own towels and washcloths. I'll bring charcoal and starter fluid - they have charcoal grills there. Sudo's got Friday night supper. I'll bring Saturday's. We're flexible on arrival time - I'm thinking 7 or 8 Friday at this point. Here's the link to the park for anyone who still wants to make a reservation. http://www.gwinnislandmarina.com
