Thanks for sharing that with us - too often we don't stop to think about the individual when we see someone that appears to be "foreign." What a great reminder that nobody really looks like the typical American and generally speaking, we enjoy that about ourselves, our individuality. Way to get me to think on a Sunday afternoon. Cool.

Wow - very cool info! I found what looks like good deals on ebay for around $200. I don't mind paying that and I prefer buying one since the rental for just this school year from the place in Kansas City our school recommends would be over $600 and we don't get to keep the horn! I don't mind paying $200 plus shipping after all. The princess wears braces and the band instructor said the french horn was more conducive to mouths with braces. (What, he never heard of a flute?) Also, she's got an overjet, not quite an overbite, so I'm hoping it'll work out well. I had a lot of questions for the band instructor and he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Great shot of your french horn, sudo! Suda's got real potential there with your digital camera! Very nice job! What tune were you playing? Somewhere over the rainbow? Thanks y'all for your help. I feel better about the whole thing now. She's gonna be her own band if she keeps this up! She's been working on a gig to sing Me and Bobby McGee and dance to it with a friend for our local talent show in May. They've been working on it the last few days - what a hoot! Hearing THOSE words out of MY BABY. LOL (But Id trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday - to be holdin Bobbys body next to mine.) YIKES! Maybe I can convince them to sing Mercedes Benz?

Annie tells me she wants to play the french horn. She also tells me she's the only french horn player they have and they need her. Annie has been taking piano lessons for a year. She's taking this next month or two off til the beginning of December, as her piano instructor is the owner of the local music lesson shop, and is doing a gig on a cruise ship to Alaska til December and it's bucks deluxe for him. He's tried to find someone else local to fill in for him for Annie while he's gone, but I said she's not that serious a student to worry about this little bit of time - we'll just wait til he comes back to start over. We really, really like him for her instructor. I did just buy her a fiddle in June, but they don't offer strings lessons here til middle school. Annie originally said she wanted to play a sax or a clarinet or a flute the first week they talked band in 5th grade. Now she says she wants to play a french horn. One concern is that a french horn is almost as big as she is. Besides getting tired of lugging it around, I don't see her staying interested in it for the entire school year. If I thought she would, I would go along with it. I've noticed she already has a big old heavy backpack to carry and her big old binder doesn't fit in the backpack so she's already carrying more than enough... I'd go so far as to drive her in on band days if she would really play the french horn, but I'm worried this could queer her music experience and I want her to lreally enjoy music... I don't want to put her in something she'll get sick of in two months. The music store will be glad to sell me a new one outright for around $1900.00 or rent one for $76 a month. That seems mighty expensive to me. I haven't checked ebay yet, but I think that's my next stop. Any other suggestions?

Happy Birthday, Sudo! One thing I have always liked about you, that is a constant, is that you are older than me Sounds like the princess is going to play a french horn in her school band - how did you do that? Have a great birthday!

I'd not heard of that book until I read your post. I checked ebay and they don't list one. Google has something, but I doubt it's what you're looking for. Amazon.com seems to be aware of it, but not have a copy. I say that because it was published by American Christian Press in 1984, so I'm thinking it's the same book. http://www.amazon.com/concordance-biblical...TF8&s=books

I live in a rural area. We have a Walmart 25 miles south of us in a bigger city, which is where we usually shop and go to Walmart and Target about equally. North of us 20 miles is another Walmart, no Target. We don't shop there as much. When we do, we notice the people there look like they don't go anywhere else and that they don't go there very often. It's really a noticeable change in the culture between the two. It's hard to explain, but the whole town doesn't look like that, just the Walmart shoppers.

Anyone know them. Are they still together? Are they still in?

Cute song! And ain't that just like humans, to pick apart a silly and fun song instead of just enjoying it and singing along!

I have a copycat recipe of Applebee's French Onion Soup. Would you like that? I'll keep looking - I thought I had a copycat of Olive Garden's too.

I'm glad Minnie came through it so well and that you were able to do it for her. I have to tell you my princess is having 4 teeth pulled this afternoon as part of her orthodontic plan. She's been wearing braces for 6 months now. She's a 10-year-old 5th grade girl. I'm thankful her bill won't be as high as Minnie's. It's $86 a tooth here, for the bicuspid extraction. I wonder, did they give anything for Minnie's pain the next few days?

Twinky - Thanks for your suggestion. We did pay the lender directly, so I know the money went where he said it would. We also have a written contract that my brother drew up. We can go to court and get a judgment, but it breaks my heart that we're not worth more than a lousy $5 grand to my brother. His son has paid back a grand on his behalf, but now the third payment is due in two days. I'm not holding my breath. I've made it a rule of mine now that I no longer loan money to people I haven't given birth to.

Dearest Ala, You used the correct word. It's not inappropriate in the least. Emotional rape is very real and it happened a lot in wayworld. It was part of the process to get us to do whatever they wanted us to. It was part of the plan all along. It's an ugly word because it defines ugly acts. The part I'm having trouble with is seeing those who would rape emotionally (or any other way) for who they are before they can inflict harm on us. I recently reunited with my younger brother after 25 years. I was in a much better financial position than he was when we reunited last fall, so it was my pleasure to give him several thousand dollars as a gift. Six months later he told me he was going to lose his house to foreclosure unless he came up with $6 grand in two days. I felt so badly for him that I got a loan for him to help him out. His third payment is due in a couple days. The first two never arrived in the mail, altho he insisted he sent them. I'm not expecting the third to come. Shame on him for screwing me over, yes, BUT SHAME ON ME MORE for still being able to be taken in any way. This feels like emotional rape all over again and dammit, I should have learned to see this one coming by now.
