  1. EXACTLY!!!! I list several reasons for moves as "volunteered to work in a community outreach program."
  2. Ah, Mr. Hamm... a squirrel after my own heart. I remember a new "babe" in the Word who had just taken piffle... he walked into a meeting a month or so after graduating, and being the rebellious teenager he was, immediately starting pulling chairs out of order, saying to himself, "this is driving me crazy. These chairs are too STRAIGHT!" WC came from every corner imaginable and grabbed the poor "babe" before he could do too much more damage. It was hilarious! I used to get in trouble for running around in the rain at ROA and then going into the tent sopping wet. Not really a practical joke, but it used to really make some WC pretty darn mad.
  3. ROTF LMAO!! HAHAHAHAHA!!! I think the ones in my back yard are stalking the dogs next door... Mr. Ham, do you happen to speak groundhog? We have one that's loving under our porch, and he is HUGE. He sits in the front yard and watches traffic. Maybe he has that brain disease.
  4. If reading something is the same as accepting it as truth, we're all in a world of trouble... Just my opinion. I try to read other's opinions and discuss them as much as possible as it helps me to understand deeper why they think the way they do... if I find better information or a new viewpoint, it only adds to my understanding. If I find they are full of poo, then I discard it as such and move on - either way, I win.
  5. Mini - you are not alone. Welcome to the cafe!
  6. You are welcome! I really enjoyed those, too!
  7. I was reading through some interesting quotes and found these: (hope they are not too corny) You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover is yourself. --Alan Alda There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do. -Freya Stark We can re-choose. Our past is not our potential. -author unknown The truly silent, who keeps apart, he is like a tree grown in a meadow. It greens, it doubles its yield, it stands in front of its lord. Its fruit is sweet, its shade is delightful, its end comes in the garden. -- The Instructions of Amenemope, Chapter 4 The people who say you are not facing reality actually mean that you are not facing their idea of reality. -Margaret Halsey Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody - I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat. We must find each other. -Mother Theresa It's a good thing to have all the props pulled out from under us occasionally. It gives us some sense of what is rock under our feet, and what is sand. -Madeleine L'Engle Lord, where we are wrong, make us willing to change; where we are right, make us easy to live with. - Rev. Peter Marshall (former chaplain of the Senate) Happiness is the absence of the striving for happiness. -Chuang-tzu (B.C. 350) People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering. --St. Augustine of Hippo
  8. OK, so this may sound a little strange, but it really worked well this past week: Take a container of plain yogurt, pop a couple of small holes in the lid and put it on its side in the kitchen sink for a couple of hours. Most of the liquid will drain from the yogurt, leaving it the consistancy of thick sour cream. Mix in a little vanilla and something a little sweet. You end up with a really yummy creamy vanilla yogurt that I served over fresh fruit this week. It was good. I used stevia for the sweet part - didn't take much at all to sweeten the yogurt and if you serve it over fresh fruit, you don't need much at all! For the fruit I used fresh strawberries, watermelon, peaches, and pineapple... But I think just about anything would taste good with it.
  9. And now I know why I hate it, too!! Free at LAST!!! Free at LAST!!! (now if I can just stop habitually making sure the chairs are straight....)
  10. Click here: LOOK FAMILIAR? Is this what is growing in your yard?

    What a Ride!!!

I think I must be sick in the head... but this is the funniest thing I have seen all day. Once I found out he was fine, I just couldn't stop laughing! Can you imagine - 50mph in a wheelchair??
  12. And you can use them like soccer balls! But I wouldn't suggest eating them afterwards.
  13. You rock, frank!! That was awesome!
  14. I concur wholeheartedly. Cook them this way myself. You can do any of the above with sliced puffball mushrooms, too. Used to do this at a resort I used to work at when we'd find them out in the woods. Sprinkle with a little garlic and grill them up... Some we had were as big or bigger than the steaks!
  15. Welcome, annam! Want some coffee? We got lots to go around! And you got it right, what kind of Christianity is it when you take Christ out of it?

    Literals

I, also really enjoy The Message along with other versions of the Bible. It has really helped to deepen my understanding and to make me think beyond just the doctrines taught to me. If I have questions regarding something, I keep looking. Sometimes I find the answer, sometimes I don't, but it has been a great exercise in thinking. WordWolf has some great points about the internet and Biblical research. It's very easy to find lots of information online that will help you to understand some of those difficult scriptures. To me, the literals according to usage were very burdensome to read. They seemed to be filled with twi jargon - and no one in the real world really talks like twi does or did. They attach certain definitions to words that may or may not be true according to the generally accepted definition. "Making it your own" is a good example. By looking at that phrase, I would think that it meant that I should study the material so that I could understand it for myself using my own experiences, thought processes, and logic. I might even do my own research so that I could understand the context or the people involved... But that is not the definition attached to it by twi... LCM used to say that we were to go to all of twi's materials and look at them with the heart that we wanted to be "as convinced of the truth as our teachers." That does not allow for questioning, additional research, additional anything. We were to make their doctrine our doctrine without question. We were to line our thinking up with theirs no matter if they said something as ridiculous as the "all women belong to the King" doctrine that stated that David as the man of God had not sinned by committing adultury with Bathsheba. There was to be no questioning that, even if it was downright stupid and against all common sense. Just make sure you think for yourself and read the Bible with THOUGHT behind it and trust your own thoughts - God made you and He made you able to think.
  17. My husband (who didn't know what twi was like back in the day) took one look at the video and pronounced "That must be some sort of DEVIL SPITIT." HAHAHAHAA!
  18. Darn it, Spot!! You stole my answer!!
