Stevo, Well those kinda memories are the best kind ain't they? Kathy -
Just saw The Two Towers. WOW! What an awesome movie. No way did it feel like a 3 hour movie. Still think we should all have a Samwise Gamgee in our lives. He is the best. And I agree that fight scene with Gandalf and Balrog was kickbutt. Hubby says in the book Gandalf did not talk about that fight. The line that Gimli said when he and Aragorn were needing to get to the gate entrance was too fun. And the means of Legolas getting down that flight of stairs was cool. Both were present day tidbits added for fun I guess. Gollum is great, those eyes were unbelievable, what they can do with computers these days, geezz. And his two personalities was done really well. But one did win out, didn?t it? In the book he leads them to Shelob whereas in the movie it ends with him deciding to do it. The ents were great and treebeard was adorable, if a talking tree can be adorable. ha ha Faramir was not tempted in the book like he was in the movie. But guess they felt it needed to be changed, but I think they could have done without portraying him having questions about wanting the power of the ring. The battle was one that held your attention, I don?t much care for battle scenes but this one was fantastic. But IMO you could have gone and just watched Aragorn and Legolas walking around for 3 hours and I would have paid the admission. ha ha Great movie, just great. :D--> ;)--> [This message was edited by ChattyKathy on January 04, 2003 at 21:51.]

How wonderful for you both, and to have met on line, how cool is that. To Be One With Each Other George Eliot (1819-1880) What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen each other in all labour, to minister to each other in all sorrow, to share with each other in all gladness, to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories? Stevo, You will be letting your lovely wife read that post I hope, that is delightful. Kathy -
Moreyt, Ted already welcomed you but I wanted to say thanks for joining us as well. And I can understand about not reading it all, ha ha. Ted, No earphones man, just flat out music flowing thru my office for anyone in the state of Illinois to enjoy as well. ha ha But this is one kickbutt CD. There is a song titled Travelin Soldier with these lines that just grabs your heart big time. One Friday night at a football game The Lord's prayer said and the Anthem sang A man said folks would you bow your heads For a list of local Vietman dead Crying all alone under the stands Was a piccolo player in the marching band And one name read and nobody really cared But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair Never gonna hold the hand of another guy Man that is a tear jerker for sure, at least it was for me. Shellon, Thank you for sharing that, and I never told you but guess better late than never. My husband was very touched by your life in regards to the gravesite. He has prayed for you when we pray together. Kathy -
Socks, My songwriter partner and I threw some lines back and forth while I was working. This is a gift from Kathy and Ted to you. The Best Thing I've Done People ask me to tell stories things from my past When I was living way to hard and way to fast Those I have met and the places I've been How it happened when and where it all began chorus If all my tomorrow's were never to come I'd be content with all that I've said and done At the top of the list you would be number one Loving you is the best thing that I've ever done verse two Yes I have been there seen this and done that Had two strikes against me at my turn at the bat But you cheered come on baby hit a home run And that I did when you and I became as one verse three or bridge It's all unimportant wins or losses in my history All that really matters is your sweet love for me So when my life is over and I sleep neath' the sun Loving you was the best thing that I've ever done

Socks, What fun, I can't wait to see what folks add to your song. I have no time now, biggest work day of the year. I will check back tonight, goodie-goodie. :)--> All I can come up with on the spur of the momemt: His smile warmed me like the heat from the sun. Heavy cares on my heart now replaced with fun. Life to me given since love no longer I shun. Love yall, Kathy

Galadriel. Daughter of Finarfin and sister of Finrod Felagund; one of the leaders of the Noldorin rebellion against the Valar; wedded Celeborn of Doriath and with him remained in Middle-earth after the end of the First Age; keeper of Nenya, the Ring of Water, in Lothlorien. Few excerpts from mentioned book of hubby?s may be of interest to yall: Galadriel the only woman of the Noldor to stand that day tall and valiant among the contending princes, was eager to be gone. No oaths she swore, but the words of Feanor concerning Middle-earth had kindled in her heart, for she yearned to see the wide unguarded lands and to rule there a realm at her own will. Galadriel spoke: save that we were not driven forth, but came of our own free will, and against that of the Valar. And through great peril and in despite of the Valar for this purpose we came; to take vengeance upon Morgoth, and regain what he stole.

Zixar, I see your point. Kathy
-
Zixar, Well you were correct in that it was once held by Cirdan. Hope, I agree they did a poor job of showing Galadriel, especially where she dealt with the lust/greed factor when she was with Frodo. That was creepy and I don't recall thinking she was that way in the book.

First off yall probably already know this but the Elves have a different name for Gandalf from the men and hobbits. They call him Mithrandir "The Grey Pilgram". Gandalf (Olorin) one of the Istari (Wizards) quote: The Red Ring of Fire...at first that ring had been entrusted to Cirdan, Lord of the Havens; but he had surrendered it to Mithrandir, for he knew whence he came and whither at last he would return. Take this Ring of Fire, and herewith, maybe, thou shalt rekindle hearts to the valor of old in a world that grows cold. Does that help ya Zixar? Kathy

Hubby picked up The Two Towers to read again to refresh his memory before we see the movie (been approx 28 years since he read these also). He also picked up The Silmarillion which is the epic history of the Elves. He said a good read of background material. He is looking thru it as he re-reads TTT. One thing he just mentioned that we both had forgotten was why Gandalf had not died on those occasions he could have. We forgot he was a holder of one of the three rings. Kathy

masterherbalist, Welcome to the club, if there could be such a thing in print, well I think we got it here. I was reading an email from TheSongRemainsTheSame the other day and he was talking about seeing the quarters lined on the pool table, hearing the sounds of the room, smelling the smoke filled air. It was not this club he was referring to, but it was in relationship to the forum. It really hit home with me, this vision he had. Cause that is what this thread is for me. It houses a wealth of life having been lived thru the eyes of music in our culture. From before I was born unto this very day. Diversity of styles and forms of music spoken of here. I sit back each time I come here and take a deep breath in and read every line, like it were the greatest novel of all time. To me it is just that. Thanks for joining us, and if ya feel so inclined I would love to hear about your meeting Eric Clapton. Also as a child I spent some days and nights in the Grand Ole Opry while my dad and uncles played on stage. Good memories those are. Thanks for bringing them up with your words. And I will hold that same goal in mind for you, to see ya there singing and playing. Yepper, I don't have to know you to pull that puppy off. Kathy

Just rented and watched The Fellowship of the Ring. Have not read these books for maybe 28 years now. Had forgotten so much of it. The movie (not dvd) was pretty good but the book had depth of character not captured in the movie IMO. But everyone should have a Samwise Gamgee in their life. Yepper we should all be so blessed.
