  1. rustedduck, Welcome and thanks for your first post in this thread. I won't ask you if you went back and read this whole gig, I think that would take about 5 hours at this point. :D--> masterherbalist, You are buddies with Trick Pony? Well my goodness ain't that fun. I never went to Ruth Eckerd before, is that named after the drug store founder there in that state? My son use to work in their main lab putting drugs together in a locked room...ha ha. You hit the nail on the head in your saying music is in every earthly event..rhythm, tone, etc. Music can talk to our hearts like nothing else can. I was telling someone the other night some of my favorite moments is to drive the back roads at night alone with the moon on the road ahead of me and a song playing loud and me singing along with it. I am completely alone then, no one knows I exist and it is like my piece of heaven. It soothes my heart like nothing else can, and at those times I believe even more there is a huge God up there. Oak, You are too fun...thanks for popping in all the time. Morning to yall fine folks.
  2. They are giving them what they think they've been asking for. But how long will the BOD hold those smiles on their faces? If it is not from the heart it will become boring to them soon and they will come up with some "heavy reavy" that they need to resort to such and such again. Especially after someone screws up in this new freedom, that will be their example to retreat.
  3. If removal of practice of deception involves meekness to admit error and make good things of the past then my answer would be NO. How many of us in our own way, some large scale to the higher ups like yourself Fresh, and some to their local to state to region folks have confronted and saw nothing in return but the same ole haughty arrogance and morsels tossed our way to appease us. They are no closer to God?s heart today than they were a few years ago when this real legalist move started with LCM. They just learned a new cover for it is all. And if removed it stinks just as badly. The ole twi saying "what is the profit" does ring true here I think, for them to really change would be godly and that don?t fit into their plan, they are too committed now...no turning back for them. And I am not limiting God in that, I am just looking at the proof already lived in the top echelon and very comfortable for them.
  4. Socks, heck you know I can?t refuse you a cupcake. You take as many as you would like. But can I go with you to see the Moody Blues, please....pretty please. They were a fav of mine back in those days, yes sure was. Ala, I think Norah Jones should share at least one of those puppies with you, heck I didn't know her before you and certainly had no idea she was Ravi Shankar?s kid either. Hope, on my goodness you're going to see the Dixie Chicks. Who is going with you? Those tickets sold out so fast in this neck of the woods you would have had to sleep in line, or on line one. What fun last night around here...even if Socks went wild. :P--> ;)-->
  5. Socks, Great point about evil in regards to walking thru your neighborhood. Recognizing what we do or don't like is critical in every aspect of life. But if I don't allow myself to know the range of what this world offers however will I know the difference. Some of us had different experiences with houses of God (twi, whatever) and still partook of things to expand and confirm our belief system. But some of us allowed a man to dictate and for that I say throw if off the highest mountain and sing a song. Hmmmm didn't imablvr mention one. :)--> Confidence gained is life lived IMO. More and more I am understanding that concept.
  6. Yana, I would agree there is value to it yes. How many times does the opposite of what we think cause our brains to fuller understand what it is we value. All the time for myself. As well as I am not ashamed of what termed secular music inspires in me. Gosh how boring if I only listened to things someone deemed appropriate for me. Yuck.
  7. chwester, That is part of the coolness of being able to think on our own though, right? Knowing we have the insight to know what is clean and what is not. Versus having someone else tell us that. And I take it you are referring to naughtiness in the sense of sexual, especially since the Stones include that in their music a lot (I don't know Sabbath's stuff). But isn't that part of what makes us up, sensuality. Where we go with it again is up to our responsible thinking. But I am not trying to tell you that you need to listen to artists you believe to be spritiual dark, I am only stating examination of what it is about their stuff that we do not like can aid in our building our base of knowledge and confidence.
  8. chwester, I agree with imablvr: It does not have to mention "God" to inspire the listener to think about God. I will be the first to say that plainly stated godly songs have aided my life and will continue to do so. But God is bigger than Christian music. There are numerous ways secular music can inspire our lives in very godly ways. Like falling in love, overcoming lack of confidence, understanding commitment, dealing with anger or grief and so on. Since principles exist in all avenues of life that were originally founded in God?s Word we would be cutting ourselves off from great profit to our lives to limit ourselves in any way. Responsibility is a key factor in every phase of living. Children should be allowed room to explore various forms of music but the parents are to be responsible to oversee them and make sure they are not becoming extreme in any of it. Some lyrics about hate and killing each other does not inspire godly thoughts in me either but I consider what I dislike about it and move on to something else. I am more and more becoming aware of how limits we set on ourselves that were taught to us by twi or some other group only led us to the slaughter. God gave us a brain to chew, spit out or digest various thoughts. Some of the songs I may have thought against God taught me more about Him than the ones that spoke His name. Because they taught me what He is not. We limit ourselves greatly doing what we think is best sometimes. Freedom to explore reactions can sometimes be the greatest healing tool we could ever have.

  13. imablvr, Thanks for your post, I had thought this thread had seen it's last days. I agree music is spiritual and I have always been of the opinion many went to twi for just that....the music. And they were taken care of within those lyrics and the hearts of those on stage. I have heard stories of how a certain song touched a heart at their darkest hour. In fact I am one such person myself. One day sitting on the wall in front of Founders Hall I was in such pain and despair, the kind you have to hide away and keep to yourself. As I sat there I heard Trudy passing nearby and she was singing to herself that song the darker the night the brighter the light and it grabbed thru the night air and held my heart as if it were alive. Yes music is spiritual indeed. I know that Ted and Socks will be thankful for your words as well as others who have loved the music of the way, regardless of what that group has done, the music stands as beautiful. Thank you for your heart to post here.
